Try car wax. Nothing new and fancy with beads or anything. just regular green turtle car wax. I've had ok results with it. This is exaclty why I got a chip and only play my backups in the PS2. Another backup can me made from the original in a few mins.

TRY STICKING IT IN THE FREEZER OVERNIGHT. THIS HAS WORKED ON A FEW OF MY SLIGHLY FUCKED CDS. OTHERWISE TRY VASELINE SMEARED OVER THE AFFECTED AREA THEN WIPE OF WTH APPROPRIATE CLOTH. OVER

This WILL sound like a joke but it has worked for me befor (a time or 2) put it in the toilet with the "picture part" facing up and flush. I swear it works.

Err, this is an interesting way for me to make a 1st post... I tried to copy a scratched disc that kept jumping during play. I thought I damaged it and it wasn't my personal property. I searched the web for tricks; toothpaste, detergent, rubbing it up a brick wall but all failed..

In the end I bought a DiscDr for £30 which was quite expensive. It repaired the damaged disk in minutes and I was then able to copy it and give the owner an unscratched disc in return. I've had it over a year and only used it around 6 times, but if you know people who have scratched discs u can provide a service and make ur money back as companies do..

Link to almost similar product by same manufacturer (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=electronics-uk&field-keywords=skipdr&results-process=default&dispatch=search/ref=pd_sl_aw_tops-2_electronics-uk_21818755_2&results-process=default?tag2=gb-en-google-21)

I have one of those. For some people they work like a dream. For other people like me, it trashes everything put in it.

I have a manually operated one. I have trashed 3 discs but that was because there was some substance (not cum) on the surface and the wheel dragged the substance and made the whole thing worse.

That's what I thoght was happening to mine (also not cum), but I think it's something with the gears in it. It'll run fine, but every now and then a gear slips or something and it drags funny. After I've done a whole disk, about 3/4 of it is clear, but the last quarter of the surface looks like it was run over by a dump truck draggin metal pipes.

Yeah, I've also heard of these disc machines that take the scratches out. A the local new and used shop, they charge $5 to turn your old CD's into new. Never tried myself, but from what I hear those machines work wonders.

I have used Brasso to repair CD's before now and CDR's

Shake well and using a very soft lint free cloth rub parrelel to the scratch.

Then clean up the Brasso with Distiled water that should work.
