Hey gang...hope everyone is nice and baked this morning.

I thought i'd let everyone know about the great new addition to this community that is soon to arrive! No.. it's not a baby.
It's a Radio!

That's right CannabisRadio will begin broadcasting 24/7 TokingTunes for everyone's listening pleasure. The stream will use Windows Media Player, and a bitrate of 40kbps. The encorder used will compress 96kbps into 40kbps for faster streaming and Windows Media Player will decompress it into 96kbps making it sounding like CD quality. At this lower bitrate, even people on dial-up will be able to listen, but the load will be considerable on a 56k line.

This is here to stay.
It is an ongoing work in progress.
The bugs will be worked out as we go.. and those of you that have had the pleasure of hearing my shoutcast stream know that we can have a lot of fun.

I will keep everyone updated.. and feedback is more than welcome.

Some things that we can expect with this are growing shows, all kinds of unedited music, contests (eventually ;) ), interviews, comedy shows and live DJing. A request system will be put in place and shoutouts will be just as welcome.
I will be looking for in the near future, assistance in DJ'ing as it will be very time consuming to do it all myself. That.. is still to be approached though.

I think that this is a cool idea :thumbsup: I'd volunteer to be a DJ,but if the stoners hear my Texas accent,they'd probably think they tuned into a country music radio by mistake..lol.

The goal of this station is to talor to just about everyones tastes both young and old.. if that means sitting through a song or two you don't like.. well, tough bananas.

if anyone is interested in possibly Djing for the radio, I ask that you download a program called Skype, it's a VoIP type program and it would show your ability to navigate sound settings and since one of the requirements of Dj'ing is a Dj's voice ... a microphone is kind of a must.

Damn Mac Book... Well I have Windows media on my mac but for some reason it doesn't won't to let me listen to the radio station. Could it be that I don't have a correct codec?

It keeps saying "The file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

Hmmmm i'm not to sure to be honest, i will talk to the tech about it.. I know iTunes works so it could simply be a codec problem.

Unfortunatly there's no way to see the name or artist of the song that's playing. Hence the reason for the DJ'ing.. generally i try to give ya the names of the songs but i do tend to get busy doing other things also.
If there's a specfic song you'd like to know the name to.. by all means please email me.

Windows media player is generally the media player that will load automatically for most people.

It's a web based radio, so until there's a device that picks up a wireless network and is able to pick up the mms:// stream .. who knows! maybe.. it wouldn't be on the FM radio, is it isn't FM radio.. it's a webcast.. and it avoids all those nitty gritty things like restrictions on what i'm allowed to say :)

I would totally be into DJ'ing for ya. Have you ever heard Sirius satellite Hard Attack station? They run a hourly show hosted by Bobby Black called "Contact High". I keep thinking an hour is not enough!!!! I was a radio DJ for a few years at a "Classic Rock station" in the remote wilderness of North Dakota. I'm a little baked right now, but I'll be sure to straighten up for a while and get something back to you. I'm a recording engineer, so I have all the required pro audio gear already. This could be very cool. Have a day job, but could spend some nights for ya.....:dance: if you're planning on being live all the time........?

Sorry that i've been kinda quiet the last few weeks but things have been moving right along. A new server is expected to be up by the new year and things should be interesting from there.

I've started a new job! w00.

This is such a wonderful idea. You know I know an old Canadian Fisherman that would make the best DJ. His voice is fantastic we are old Air America buddies so he has quite a bit of experience at this type of thing. Let me know if you still need someone.

Hey guys, I've just found this realy cool artist (or group of artists, I dunno) that makes really chill, ambient music.. You can download like hour-long mixes of some really cool stuff, I think it would be perfect music to use for this, especially if you're always looking for more music to use..

Got a new show going on Friday Nights 8pm-11pm(EST) Potent Radio with TokingTunes airs every Friday from Kindred Cafe in Toronto.

Forum for the radio will be up soon which will allow consistant updates of progress and the start of the Cannabis-Radio community.
