Well I started my first grow about a week ago. I had 5 northern lights x big bud seeds that i germinated, but only 3 sprouted. thats probably all i have room for anyways though. im using a bunch of cfls for the whole grow - 4 26w cools, 2 32 w cools and 1 42w warm. for soil, i mixed up some ocean forest (50%) perlite (30%) and vermiculite (20%). right now im using 24/0 light schedule. im thinkin about goin 18/6. i know there is a lot of debate as to which is better, what have you guys had success with? or does it matter. also, two of my plants are really leaning over. they are only a few days old, so will they straighten up or should i straighten them? well here they are. any suggestions/comments would be awesome. thanks

It could be a good idea to go 18/6 your tips look a little burnt or somthing. Giving the plants a rest or night time Is a good idea most say. Just like us they need some rest daily.

hey,
your setup sounds good. I would say, that u should do 18/6. In my opinion it doesn't really makes any difference. 24/0 or 18/6. I have few grow/flowering rooms and there are 24/0 in one of them, 18/6 in the other and 12/12 in the third one... and the reason I have 24/0 is just cuz I don't have a third timer LMAO
what's up with ventilation system? is there any air circulation in your growroom?
don't straighten up your seedlings. they gonna do it themselves. in fact, be careful with your plants. they easy to damage while they so small. keep your CFL's as close as possible. then your plants will grow bushy and short. I guess 4-5 inches is perfect distance.
good luck.

for ventilation i have a fan on top pullin air and two vent holes on bottom. there are two real small fans inside to push the air around. but it stays around 87 deg with 5 of 7 lights on and door cracked. so i think im gonna stick a more powerful fan in one of the vent holes. should that be good enough. its only about 12 ft3. thanks for the help

Cooler temps can help premote female traits, so try to get the temps down.

Nothing helps promote the sex of a plant, if it's a male then it was planned to be a male the minute it germinated. The only thing that lowering the temps could do (which needs to be done CJ) is help keep your plants alive and right now that needs to be done because those plants look unhappy. Also does that say 24% for humidity? raise that humidity up to some where around 60%-65%. I'm just saying that incase that is your humidity that I see.

While it's true that Cannabis seeds do have a genetic "destiny", so to speak, enviromental condtions can alter the sex of your plants.

orangeman. what about the plants makes them look unhappy? color, size? im havin a hell of a time tryin to keep the temps down. i cant vent or draw from outside, but i do try to keep my windows open for fresh air. but that drops the humidity (humidity is around 23% where i live). so i guess i need a humidifier? any suggestions? thanks guys

alright. well i got a humidifier and it hangs right around 52 give or take a few percents. im leavin the door cracked so the temp stays around 78. so i think its goin better now. but i think the little ones are stunted. they dont grow hardly at all. they are gettin close to 2 weeks old and they are still real small. im hopin theyll start growin more now. two of them look pretty bad. hopefully they can recover. i think the third looks pretty good. def looks a lot better than the other.

take a pic of the whole cab and ill get you on your way with venting it

hey invision. that would be awesome dude. alright. so the first pic is of the whole cab. its about 43" wide x 48" tall x 17" deep. you can see the two vent holes in the bottom. the one on the left (actually in the middle of the cab) now has a fan in it with a 4" duct that runs to the outside of my closet. you can see that in the second pic. you can also kinda see the hole in the top of the cab. thats where i have another fan hooked up to pull air out. see third pic. i was thinkin about moving the bottom fan inside the cab and puttin it on one side and blowin air across. so it would still draw air from outside the cab through the duct, but it would also circulate and take heat off the lights. i think one prob might be is i have the lights down low and the exhaust is up high. i know hot air rises and all but just by feelin the air and watchin the temps, it doesnt seem to do a real great job of keepin it very cool. ive also considered cuttin more vent holes in the bottom but i havent yet. oh yeah. the bottom fan is the same as the top fan, a stanley fan. anything else? thanks for the help man.
