this plant has been in 12/12 for about 10 days and just started showing sex. a little ball (only one!) appeared at each internode about 3 days ago and i was almost certain it was male. i waited a few days just to make sure and now i see that little white hairs have popped out in a few places. i'm not sure whether it is displaying both male and female features though! i tried to get a few shots showing one side of the internode showing a hair and the other with a ball (i remember the first pic being a good one of that). anyhow, can anyone help??? what the hell is this plant doing? the others don't look like this, but they are also different strains...

I'd say it's just a female, the calyxes can look like balls sometimes before the pistils emerge from them.

Your plant is NOT a hermie. Not yet anyway. Hermie is after a female plant puts out flowers and then begins to put out seeds later. You are just starting to show signs of sex now. A plant will be either male or female. Then a female can go hermie later. Just wanted to clarify hermie. Peace

Mmmm, calyxes...yum. Looks like a chick to me. But then again, what do I know?! Hope it continues to show you those beautiful hairs. Weird how MJ is the only girl we love more the hairier she gets... :D

thanks for the clarification! i was almost hoping this one would turn out male, because i've got too many females in a very small grow space! this is a first ever grow from a potpourri mix of bag seeds from different bags. five seeds were planted with the assumption that some would turn out male and and i wanted to guarantee at least two females. now i've got five out five females! i thought for sure i'd screwed up enough times to guarantee some failure (i.e: first three weeks under natural light, second three under cfls, etc). time to figure out what to do about all of these girls...any ideas? i don't think i can keep them all!! here's a pic of the ladies...how do you like those potato chip bag reflectors? there's no mylar around but plenty of chips, ha.

I will guess that your high percentage of females may be due to a low stress environment you had them in for the first 3 weeks. I hope mine turn out the same. I have eight White Widows going right now and I only need one to be male for some extra seeds :)
If you have a dark spot to put the plants. You can rotate them. You can run the light 24hrs with 12hrs for each set of plants. That's the only thing I can think of since you don't have any more room under those lights. Good Luck.
Check out my thread "White Widow Pic". You can see I can easily house your extra plants :)

I would not throw them out, even if I had to buy a couple extra CFL's and screw them into any household light fixture and just throw the fixture above them. That should at least get you some extra smoke. Peace:stoned:

hey, that's a great, simple idea! i didn't think about simply rotating plants under the lights 12/12. i'm working on ideas for their sleeping place already...by the way, about how large do their pots need to be? right now they are in about 8.7 inches (at the top rim) by about 7.5 inches tall. i probably should have transplanted earlier (before 12/12), but i guess i just planned poorly.

also- am i going to stress these plants too much by transplanting at this stage? i'm now at about 12 days of 12/12. should i go with a full transplant to another container, or try the double potting technique to diminish stress to the roots? thanks again to everyone for the insight and encouragement!

How tall are you looking to grow them? Your pots sound big enough to me. They are already larger than mine. I'm only 3 days into flowering and won't be transplanting them any more.

are these pots really big enough? they seem a bit small, but i really don't know. i only know the dimensions, not how many gallons they actually hold. i'm planning on keeping these plants short and bushy- maybe 2.5 feet tall at the most...

well, a few more days have passed, and those suspect balls still have not sprouted hairs. the pre-existing hairs have gotten much larger, while the balls are now extended on a short stem!! i'm beginning to worry that this might be a bad sign after all...i'll try to get some pics up in the next day or two, but what do you all think of this development?? if they are male flowers, how long will it be before they screw things up by spreading pollen to the girls?

does anyone know how early a plant can show hermie? i am at 14 days of 12/12 now. also, how long does it usually take before a male flower opens and spreads pollen?
another question: one of my ladies is showing a few orange hairs? does this mean anything? thanks for the help!

xonce the no one replied to your last post i will...
the make floweres take a bit to throw ther pollen, you will def know its a male befor it does, it will have a couple or balls inits little branch befor it pollenates
the brown hairs could be fromm over nuting , heat, yo ur fingures touching them ect, judging by your plants age its probly once of the three. your plants are by no means readty to harvest
