I am finally able to have a grow room. ( Kids finally moved out) I'm thinking of using a Waterfarm 8 module drip system. Being that the room is only 5' wide, would a 1000 watt hortilux bulb be overkill or would a 600 watt be sufficient. The prices are about the same from what I see.
Thanks for the help

go with the 1000 or x2 600's

A 1000 watt really only lights a 4'x4' area. Anything more and your light is too far away to have that type of footprint. Different hoods shade different ways, but 4'x4' is a good bet in general. Therefore, a 5'x6' room could easily fit two 600s or a 1000. The question really is, can you get rid of all that heat? If so...then the more light the better. A 6" inline fan on an aircooled 600 or a 1000 HPS (using the hood to exhaust air from the room) along with a fresh air intake of sorts works well.
However, I too grow in a 4'x6' room, but I run two 1000 watt HPS lights and my room is only 4.5' tall instead of 10. Both lights are aircooled and draw air from the grow room, through the hoods, out 6" ducting, into a 6"-8" Y, and out an 8" 740cfm fan. intake from a different source with a 6" 500cfm fan. run 35 plants per light, in 2 planter boxes that are 4x3 feet each. Each one sits under a 1000 watt.

Thanks Racerx,
Good info. Heat buildup and ventilation would have been my next question being that the room is pretty much sealed. It's hidden so well that my brother couldnt find how to get into it even though he knew it was there somewhere. Right now all I have in there is a phototron. (Ok everyone, stop laughing) It has served me well for over 10 years and saved me lots of money.
So now I'll start looking at air cooled 1000 watts and work on the ventilation system.
Thanks again. Love this forum

2 1000's in a 5x6? Wow that is some power. Well done!
I would go for 2 600HPS Hortilux EYE lights or one 1000 on a track. I am told the 600W HPS systems are the most efficient as far as watts to lumens go. Besides it gives you a 1200 watt system with great coverage.

The setup I spoke of is 4x7 feet, not 4x6. Sorry. I am building another box for a friend right now that is a bed too, it is 5x7x5 feet. It will house 2 600 watt digitals and about 60 plants.

The 2 600w's will be a nice coverage IMO, but if you could do the 1k on a light mover that would be as nice or even better.
Adieu
