OI OI
Im totally new to growing i want to try and grow some plants, just gonna start off growing 2. Ive tried to have a look through the forums and messages, but there just seemed to be posts asking questions as opposed to a guide of some sort
If im starting right from scratch, i have absolutely no knowledge or experience in growing, could anyone help me or point me in the right direction. Bearing in mind i live in the UK, exactly what equipment do i need, where can i get it from, and how do i set things up.
Would a normal sized cupboard be ok to grow 2 plants? Do i need fans and things? I remember reading a while back that theres a difference between male and female plants?
Sorry if i seem a bit ignorant to all this, and cheers in advance for any help :)

Well there is a lot you will have to do. First get busy reading the forum .... there will be many questions posted that will answer some of your questions and you will learn more about the equipment you need.
You are going to use fluor. lights or HPS (high pressure sodium) or MH (metal halide) ... you will have to figure out which one will fill your needs. I use fluor. lights to veg and clone my plants then I use a 430 HPS lamp for flowering. Many folks like to use MH lamps for veg stage. and the HPS for flowering.
Since you are using a cabinet your space is probably very limited. You will need a fan. I would recommend a 250 W HID light either hps or mh to get you through the whole grow process. If you use this kind of light then you must have a fan.
Get the pots you will use. Buy your soil if that's the way you plan to grow. If you are planing to use hydro then I can't help you. I know very little about that.
You will need to either paint the inside cabinet white or use some kind of reflective material so you lose as little light as possible.
You will have to cover the bottom with some type of plastic to protect the wood from water. You will need a way to keep tabs on the temperature. You will have to learn when to water and when to feed.
Feeding or watering too much can cause problems as well as doing it to little will cause troubles too.
Let the leaves tell you how the plant is doing. If the tips are brown ... water ... yellow let it dry out.
One rule of thumb I read was when in doubt flush.
So keep reading these fourms and get your answers. Good luck with your grow.
May the Force be with you and your garden. :)

cheers for the help mate
I think the best thing for me to do is gonna be to try and buy a book and follow that, then use the internet for questions and advice.
Does anyone know if there are any "general" step by step guides on the internet anywhere?

I highly recommend the book in the picture below, The Cannabis Grow Bible, by Greg Green. It's really been all I needed in terms of information, although I did pick up some ideas on cabinet-specific stuff on sites like this and overgrow.com when it was around.

I'll second that recommendation on the Grow Bible.
Its a great book for learning the basics and a little beyond that.
Very easy to understand, and covers basically everything you *need* to know.
Heres a couple links to other basic guides around the net.
