I love picking up on this shit in songs. All the metaphors and just straight up sick lines where you're like "oh shit." Heres some of my favorites from some of the best.

..."9-to-5 is how you survive, I'm not tryna survive, I'm tryna live it to the limit and love it a lot"...

..."Just some thoughts for the mind, I take a glimpse at the time, watch the blimp read 'The world is mine'"...

..."If money talks, the whole world's about to hear me out"...

..."I dabbled in crazy weight, without rap, I was crazy straight, I'm still spendin' money from Eighty-Eight"...

..."I'm out for dead presidents to represent me"... - Love that one

..."No lie, just know I chose my own fate, I drove by the fork in the road and went straight"...

..."And you scared I can tell, and I'ma get Bucks like Milwaukee, cuz like Sam, I Ca-ssell"...

..."I'm far from broke, got enough bread, and mad hoes, ask Beavis, I get nothing Butt-Head"...

..."Go to leave and she giving me hell, told her bend over, I'ma crack that ass like the Liberty Bell"...

Everyone list some good ones...

I dunno...I like it mostly because of the music. Its doesnt all sound the same like banging on drums and guitar chords. There is actually a flow to it, its like the jazz of today. As for the lyrics...I agree there is to much violence and street slander, but its part of life and they address that. My favorite 3 (not sure which order) is Jay, Slim, and Nas. They address other issues besides guns and shit, and have some of the best production behind them. Also, i hate any of that Southern shit in the mainstream. That to me has nothing to do with rap at all, its not creative and it all sounds the same. Paul Wall...wow.

you like it mostly for the music?> you mean the beets they dident make , or there horable rhyms? i donno what drums and guitar cords your talking about man. the jazz of today huh? i donno what kind of jazz youve ever heard but rap is nowhere close to being as good as jazz. as for the lyrics, its untallented people rapping about how big there rims are, how they have a necklace that cost more than your house, how they will shoot this person for saying tha, this and that blah blah. part of the life why? because they choose to live that way , under society being misfits in todays world, realy cool isent it. as for you hating southern rap, im from texas , i hate hate hate rap i cant stress it enought but atleast what mystate puts out is bettere that whatever elts is in the "rap game" today , im terrobly sorry you havent been introdused to better music man i realy am. :(

Yea not all rap/hip hop is about violence. I'm hoping to see some nice bone thug lines soon and people under the stairs. Right now i love listening to K-os his new album is coming out october 10th i can't wait!!

This is the last course of love song i like how it sounds and its got a nice message not shoot that ganster and steal his drugs...

It's easy not to care what people say
It's harder to pretend and try
Cuz they can only love you from yesterday
I'm looking at them now they pose high
I'm just a man who's walking
They stand around and keep talking
They tried to clip my wings
But wisdom fills so many things
Say it again
I'm just a man who's walking
They stand around and keep talking
They tried to clip my wings
But wisdom fills so many things

It's funny how life can go
Dont get high off your own supply
This is my message to the world...

My most favourite verse that I have written on my wall is by Atmosphere (Pour me another one)..

"All she wanted was a little bit of solid
Feels like love, it doesn't matter what you call it
Heal those cuts or hide em underneath the polish
Break another promise and take me as a hostage (take me)
Hold your job down and let the zombies crowd around
Thankin' mommy's god that it's a cop's town
Keep it safe for me while I chase a fantasy
Swervin through the galaxy, searchin for a family
Happily surrounded by planets and stars"

The whole song is brilliant, really.

Since I see that you a sucker, suck a gasoline dick
Put it right up to your lip, put a lighter to the tip (boom!)

I'll put that boy J Junior in the future in a body bag
I'm trying to quote that bad body like a boxing bag
Trying to get below the belt and beat it like a boxing jab
Hit it then I quit it like I dropped out of a boxing class

Chamillionaire....best rapper....

You got juice? That's pulp fiction
Pick up your girl and get brain in the car like Jules and Vincent
Too fatal, unable to crash
Sluts I introduce to anal call me a pain in the ass
Buy a drink for a bitch that I think I'm a hit
Then I finger fuck her. If my finger stinks, I'm a split! -Copywrite(On My Dick)

Before a blunt, I take out my fronts
Then I start to front, matter of fact, I be on a manhunt
You couldn't catch me in the streets without a ton of reefer
That's like Malcolm X, catchin the Jungle Fever
King poetic, too much flavor, I'm major - Nas(Halftime)

Versatile, my style switches like a faggot
But not bisexual, I'm an intellectual
Of rap, I'm a professional and that's no question, yo
These are the lyrics of the man, you can't near it, understand
Cause in the streets, I'm well known like the number man - Nas(Halftime)

Goin insane, never die, live eternal, who shall I fear?
Don't shed a tear for me nigga I ain't happy here
I hope they bury me and send me to my rest
Headlines readin MURDERED TO DEATH, my last breath
Take a look picture a crook on his last stand
Motherfuckers don't understand, if I die tonight - 2pac(If I Die 2nite)

Last year was a hard one, but life goes on
Hold my head against the wall learnin right from wrong
They say my ghetto intrumental, detrimental to kids
As if they can't see the misery in which they live
Blame me, for the outcome, ban my records - check it
Don't have to bump this but please respect it
I took a minus and now the hard times are behind us
Turned into a plus, now they stuck livin blinded
Hennesey got me feelin bad, time to stop drinkin
Rollin, in my drop-top Jag, what's that cops thinkin?
Sittin in my car, watch the stars and smoke
I came a long way but still I got so far to go
Dear mama, don't worry; I'ma watch for snakes - 2pac(Krazy)

You know me I smoke a blunt while Im gettin brain
Stick my finger in her butt while Im gettin brain
Yeah im nasty bitch what?
Lil Wayne I like the mac'd up lips and two tounge ring
I gotta say it Im the president i run things
All these hoes trying to save a niggas cum stains - Lil Wayne(Gettin Some Head)

Come to the hotel wondering if you stripping, that's a must
Make a meal out of my nuts, and open up a can of suck

Controversy sells, I swear I spit a rhyme that'll shock
I wreck so I get respect in the digital underground, like I'm Pac

Sixty inch T.V. screen, I could view from the side angle
In my crib you'll get lost, it's like the Bermuda Triangle

Think I'm playing by my pistol, until I'm smacking it over ya
Shooting spiders off my rims, like I got arach-a-naphobia

Get off my jock, you on the sack
I'ma tell you once, then I'ma warn a cat
then I'm, gon' react like you a quarterback
and I'm Warren Sapp, lay on ya back

Party starts when I'm steppin' in
I'll trust no one but my next of kin
If you lookin for friends that'll stab ya back
gotta couple friends I'll recommend

Oh man, hip-hop beats make the world vibrate if done right, and the lyrical genius behind the verses is what makes it all so great. The beat is what supports a track, it just helps the MC keep a constant beat going to spit out profoundly thought out verses to make a point, ya know? Some MC's rid of painful feelings by describing personal experiences in metaphoricaly structured verses. As for the ones that have been around for longer...their concepts of being an MC is beyond many people's understandings. The metaphors also let the listener create a whole different perspective about the song, and relate it's aspects to their own life's. Even better, it opens up never-ending possibilities to imagine when the rapper knows how to make you experience these states. Aesop Rock, for example, leaves an open door after every song. A lot of underground artists from all over the world can bend, stretch, cut, and simply manipulate linguistic skills to amazing levels. Amazing enough to listen to it, and be very inspired by the message that's sent out, or created in the mind, ah.

I'm not talking about any mainstream rap that's been out lately, by the way.

Poetry is an art, after all!

The whole song "Television, the drug of a nation" by Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy.

Especially this made me laugh out loud:

CNN ESPN ABC TNT but mostly B.S.
Where oxymoronic language like
"virtually spotless" "fresh frozen"
"light yet filling" and "military intelligence"
have become standard

Lol, military intelligence...
