Making a pipe outta clay

My friend and I are too young to buy a pipe and we can't seem to find anyone who will buy us one so we are making one outta clay then we are gunna glaze it. It's a very half-baked idea but, were gunna try it 2morro. It gunna be made outta red clay. Anyone ever make a pipe like this.

Heh, can't you just do that in art class in school? Thats what its for anyway! I've heard of plenty of people doing that, kids make ash-trays in there anyway, whats the harm in a pipe.

i doubt it. when those things come out of the kiln they are really really hot. way hotter than youd ever get it with a lighter. i could be wrong though

My friend made one. And she also did a presentation in speech class about clay. I asked her, in private, if it'd be okay to smoke out of a pipe made of clay. That's when she told me she had made one and she says that when they go through the burner or the kiln or whatever, that it makes it safe to smoke out of because it gets rid of impurities in the clay.

She also said what CJBHM said, "The kiln gets it hotter than a lighter ever could, so I think it'd be safe."

to really make it worthwhile you need a kiln, and white clay is better for pipes, white clay low firer.. you want to let it dry for at least 48 hours before you fire it or the water in the clay will cause it to basically explode.

Clay is fine. Just one word of caution, do make sure the glaze completely takes and try to keep it out of the bowl and chamber. You really don't want to smoke that stuff.

All glaze is made of is just glass. And many people have glass pipes. Cover the entire piece in glaze so it's shiny. It'll work great.
