View Full Version : Drug references in Cartoons.

I just saw an episode of "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" on cartoon network and first there's a form of Yogi the Bear with blood shot eyes trying to violently steal a picnic basket. UHH MUNCHIES? then, glancing over just now at the end of the show there's a fake ad for "Mushcookies"...mushroom cookies that supposedly taste like cat..hahaha, not the first time i've noticed things like this in that show either.

I love being in my older years and looking at these kids shows and noticing tons of drug references, or what are drug references in my mind.

Anyone notice some of these in other modern cartoons ?

i see it alot, in kids movies there are tiny little hints, i think we just read to much into stuff like this.

but it does make me feel special whenever i recognise it and a non-pothead doesn't.

i saw a show once that was pointing out all the clues in the show Scooby-Doo that suggested that Scooby and Shaggy were high.

A couple of the ones I remember:
In one episode the "radiator breaks" in the van, and Scooby and Shaggy pop out of the back of the van along with a cloud of smoke and they're both laughing.

Shaggy and Scooby are ALWAYS hungry, the muchies?

Haha, grim adventures of billy and mandy is the best. :D It's gotten more mainstream'd though, it was better when it first started.

And you saw that, but you didn't notice the blue mushroom poster in their lving room? (where they all watch tv?) I saw it in one scene and thought it was just a flash, but it's aaalways there. There's tons of mushroom references in that show.

I'm preeeeeetty sure he wasn't on acid. ;)

That said, there's no reason he wasn't chillin with mushrooms and peyote. hahaha

Actually, you will find that Charles Dodgeson (Lewis Carroll's real name) was not under the influence of any drug what so ever when he came up with the idea for Alice in Wonderland. There is no evidence he used any drug other than laudanum (which was the standard painkiller at the time, think advil or ibuprofen), and even the evidence for that is sketchy, circumstantial and weak.

Lol everytime you watch popeye!

I'm Popeye the sailorman,

I'm strong to the finich, 'cause I eats my spinach,

I think popeye would be a case of reading too much into it. Another obvious scooby plug was in one of the live action movies they made. I remember some comment about shaggy stating they stay away from places that have the word evil in the title. Evil and hydroponics....but for other reasons. I think they even meet a chic named Mary Jane and drool all over her. I'm sure my wording is off, I can't remember much about the movie, but I remembered that.

At Disneyworld there is this ride called "Splash Mountain" and when you are waiting in line there is this one place where this toad talks to you, and all you can see is his shadow, but he has a pipe in his mouth, and is talking all crazy and laughing and stuff, might just be a coincidence though...

My Lit/Speech/Drama teacher said that what happened was that during the time he wrote the book, opium was one of the most widely abused drugs. It was said that he HATED the fact that people were addicted to it, and sometimes openly pushing/using the drug.

He had grandchildren, and she told me he wrote the book to try and scare them out of ever doing drugs.

I don't know, either way, good movie, great book.

Btw, Billy and Mandy is effing AWESOME! That's one of my favorite shows. The entire thing plays out like a mushroom trip, Baby Face.

In the cartoon movie ALADDIN (Disney)....at one point a few of the characters are out on like a porch....and you have to turn up your TV really loud, and you can hear Aladdin in the background saying "All good teenagers.....Take off your clothes!!" The proof that this is true is that Ive heard it like 50 times (had to show everyone I knew). If fact, I bet my Aladdin movie is right on that part lol. Ya, Ive seen the Lion King one too.

yeah the disney stuff is weird like in Aladin, I went back like twenty times cause I couldn't believe it was in there. The Lion King thing is more subtle and harder to notice. Supposedly there are two in the lion king but I can only find one. Both of them have had it edited out in the later versions of the videos, and all of the dvd's. Only the first prints I'm afraid. And I saw that Yogi Bear cartoon years ago, me and a bunch of friends were smoking and just happened upon it, I've never laughed so hard in my life. For real that shit was FUCKED UP!!! Even the ppl who were there that weren't high (two out of ten ppl) said it was trippy. I saw it a couple months back again it's always the same one, I got so excited I had to tape it just to show ppl I wasn't crazy. It was animated by the same ppl that did Ren and Stimpy.

I love cartoons,

Almost every video game uses a miracle green herb to heal the wounds.
Resident Evil is one. There's a rat called Munchie and an old lady who grows indoor herbs in Dragon Quest 8.

in Saint's Row for 360 one of the food items you can use to heal is a blunt

your character actually takes it out and smokes it, then the whole screen gets hazy

Most other cartoonists and animators I meet smoke weed. I have no idea why, but it's pretty damn cool from my perspective.

Nope. 420 is the time a group of kids at San Rafael high school would smoke weed. They called themselved the Waldos I think. They have posters and other memorabilia to prove it. It got spread through grateful dead concerts. I've seen this info printed a bazillion times on the internet, but high times actually went out and found these guys and did a story about it in the May issue. Pretty good issue, too.

It was stars in the lion king, and it looks more like sfx, which was probably some animation crew. As for the take off your clothes, I've heard it and I don't believe it.

I mean, you have to believe that someone was in the sound booth, reading the next line that said take off your clothes. Then, no one in management thought that it was a bad idea.

I really like that snopes website. It covered both of those.
