we must teach them early about the freedom that those terrorists hate so much.

it's nice to see some kids with a backbone who don't just roll over like so many neo-con (commie) bootlickers.

Student Suspended for Wearing 9/11 T-Shirt

Ben Lewandowski says he was only trying to be patriotic when he wore a homemade T-shirt featuring an American flag bumper sticker and the words "Remember 9/11" to Lincoln Park High School on Monday.
After all, it was Sept. 11 -- five years after the terrorist attacks.
The 17-year-old Lincoln Park resident put the shirt on Monday morning and headed to school -- where he was quickly sent to the office and suspended for three days for violating the school's dress code.
He was one of at least seven students sent home for wearing shirts featuring patriotic images and messages. It comes less than a week after three siblings were suspended for wearing shirts emblazoned with the First Amendment, despite warnings, and a week after more than 200 students were sent home on the first day of school for violating the district's dress code -- which bans apparel with writing or pictures.
For Lewandowski, who was sent home on the first day of school for wearing a shirt with writing on it, Monday's incident was his second offense.
"I was frustrated," said the junior, whose desire to become a firefighter was fueled after the Sept. 11 attacks. "It just made me so mad that I can't be patriotic."
Lincoln Park Schools Superintendent Randall Kite said the high school held a moment of silence Monday to give students an outlet to show their patriotism. He said some students had asked last week whether they could wear shirts to commemorate the day, and they were told no.
"We didn't think it would be appropriate, because of the dress code, to wear T-shirts with writing," he said Tuesday.
According to the dress code, students are allowed to wear school-sanctioned clothing, such as T-shirts bearing the school's mascot or clothing that supports school organizations.
This, according to the ACLU of Michigan, may violate the students' rights, particularly because it allows students to wear clothing that encourages school spirit but bans other forms of expression. ACLU officials have said that they plan to look into the constitutionality of the dress code.
Kite said the district had lawyers review the policy before it was enacted. Members of the district's school board have said the dress code is lenient compared with other districts such as Detroit and Pontiac, which have banned jeans and T-shirts completely.
Southfield's school district implemented a dress code last year similar to those enacted in Detroit and Pontiac this year. Southfield Schools Deputy Superintendent Ken Siver said Tuesday that the district didn't have any problems Monday with students violating the policy to wear patriotic garb.
Still, some Lincoln Park parents say they feel the district has gone too far.
Kaye Belcuore's granddaughter, 14-year-old Karly Belcuore, was sent home Monday from Lincoln Park High for wearing a T-shirt with patriotic messages on it.
"I think it's a little ridiculous under the circumstances," Kaye Belcuore said.
Kelly Galley agrees. Her three children -- 13-year-old twins Monique and Jaicen Massa and 11-year-old Jaymie Massa -- were suspended last week for protesting the dress code by wearing T-shirts with the First Amendment on them. Jaymie had stayed home from Lincoln Park Middle School on Tuesday, but Monique and Jaicen wore the shirts again -- their third offense -- and were suspended again, this time for five days. One more offense and they'll be expelled.
Galley said it's likely she'll end up homeschooling.

Thats real smart: get yourself expelled from school and become a martyr.

This is the typical M.O. of today's younger generation - put on a shirt and you can pretend to be patriotic, a revolutionary, a "ghetto" media superstar, or whatever the flavor of the day is. As long as you get some attention from your peers and look like a hero.

These suburban punks will never get out in the streets and demonstrate for changes that they desire. Oh no, that's not "cool". It might interrupt their hanging out at McDonalds' or the mall. They'd rather sit around and play computer games, and pretend to be smarter and better then their teachers. As long as they have the ACLU's support, and that of similar organizations, it's enough for them until they graduate and fulfill their destinies of becoming like their parents - only worse.

Well said.

Half of the kids who are like this don't even know why they are doing it. They should read some books for once and stop watching the TV.

Can't agree more. It's like so many of these flavor/issue of the week crusaders I see up in nearby Berkeley. They sit there drinking their soy chai lattes, planning their next protest. They're so willing to tell you everything that's wrong but most can't have more than a few minute discussion on the subject. They just know it's wrong because all their friends say it's wrong.

In this case I think the school might have gone a bit overboard suspending the kids but a rule is a rule. If you allow a kid to break one rule why not allow the next one to break another. It probably would have been better for the school to come out ahead of time and said something like "students wishing to wear patriotic t-shirts on 9/11 will be allowed to do so on that day only" That way it wouldn't be so much breaking a rule as making a new one.

Is this type of rule that commen these days? Shit, I used to wear a t-shirt with a big bud (marijuana) on the front and the saying "This Bud's for You" and nobody ever gave me any trouble.

I'm amazed!!! Pisshead is sticking up for a patriotic teen who believes in terrorists, wants to wear a flag on his shirt, and also because of 9-11 wants to be a firefighter.

Can't wait for the "08" elections. He just may come out in protest that G.W. can't run for a third term!!! LOL

All shittin' aside........great post!!

Have a good one!

What do I have to say to this being a high schooler. Well this year they had a lawyer came through and wrote our handbook. There are now such rules where they can search your vehicle even if it isn't on school grounds, search your locker with out probable cuase, and search you to make sure your wearing underpants. In short they can go fuck themselves and I only wear underpants 2 days a week now. Its my patriotic duty and very comfortable. What it comes down to is they agree I have rights just not when I'm in Nazi camp I mean school.

but you're just a stupid high schooler who has no rights...you're just not smart enough to say anything about it. being a slave will make you safe.

it's really angering to know that a lawyer would come in and basically say you're a slave, and then to see people justify it, who have no idea what freedom is.

they can say all day long they can do whatever they want...it's still illegal and unconstitutional. and as long as students and parents allow it, public schools will continue to be nwo/northcom/military dictatorship training schools.

What?! Underpants?! I've never heard such an outrage! They can't oppress you like this! You should DEMAND your rights to go Commando! FREE WILLY!!

I'll give the kid an "A" for effort, but as already posted getting sent home pretty well wiped that out.

I'd be interested in seeing the kids grades in civics class, do they still teach civics in school ?

Mindless nonsense, PH, pull up your pants, stop smoking that dope ( you obviously can't handle it) and start paying attention. You don't want to go through life like this, do you ?

this is just a simple exsample of not being able to GRASP a subject. I call it the Stuiped Bolck some people are born with said Stuiped Block and it causes them to not be able to comprehend simple idea's,

Good thing I didn't realy sign any of their papers I took my handbook home copied the contracts in image but flipped and changed some of the words. My english teacher is now under contract to provide me with head no less than 3 times a day. I am also under contract for full computer access and student files. I also changed the drug and alchohol sheet just a bit to where I must be provided at least a case of the beer of my choosing. It was hard but if I get into any trouble I have something no my lawyer has something to fall back on.
