I'm going to start with a couple of mine.
First one- oil on canvas, 10x12 inches
Second- Acrylic on canvas, I just whipped that one off to have something to hang on my bright red wall. Everything else I try to hang in that room just looks blah.
Third- I painted that in high school. It's 3x4 feet, oil on canvas.
My stupid watercolor portfolio has gone missing. Those will be up when I find it.

Oh, that... yeah... well, it goes something like this...
My ex is a moron... a LAZY moron... for a long time he was a lazy unemployed moron with no ambition... now, I own a house and make enough to pay my bills... but that does not mean I need a mooch living there... I was working 3 jobs at the time; a professional job running a chemistry lab, a bartending gig, and line cooking... now, you can imagine that line cooks come home really late and just want to shower and go to bed, and in my case I had to shower, go to bed, and get up at 6am to go to my OTHER job... it was the night before trash day... Jeff had been home all day doing nothing, and my ONE request was that he sort the recycling and take out the rubbish... I got home at midnight, the rubbish was still in the kitchen, and he was in bed... I tried to wake him up... he was pretending to be asleep... my fist went through the wall 8 inches from his head.
I don't take kindly to people who can't keep simple fucking promises.

Word, it sucked.
But lazy loser is gone...
Extra jobs are GONE, wOOt...
Calm has been restored in my home...
OMG I might even have time to paint something other than the fucking downstairs apartment soon! (GGGRRRR guess what I'm doing tonight!)

I love atomic fuckup... as so would my good girlfriend who is really into that weird medieval art-shit I'll have to ask what specifically the painting is... it's a triptych that shows purgatory... totally bizarre... I can see a definite influence...
Also the one on the tea towel, lol!! GREAT choice of media! hahahaha I love it!

this is the one... Hieronymous Bosch... the Garden of Earthly Delights... she has a HUGE print of it hanging on her living room wall... her mother absolutely HATES it, claims it gives her the willies, guess it's a good way to keep the in-laws from overstaying their welcome, lol!
oooh you got another piece of karma kandy!

ive got books on both bosch and brughel, both of whom did paintings of visions of hell, my favourite is triumph of the dead by brughel, it was the cover of an old black sabbath complilation that i had. it relly puzzles me as to how they got away with doing the paintings that they did, at the time [early rennaissance] if you spoke out against the church they burned you at the stake.

I googled 'medieval art purgatory triptych' and found an interesting site with a writeup on how bosh got away with it... apparently he was a really pious dude and had some powerful patrons.

the book i have about bosch goes into great depth about 'the temptation of st anthony' another of his tryptichs and also provides a lot of insight into his other paintings. it is suggested in the book that bosch was part of a semi-cultlike group [like the masons] and points out a large number of anti-christian symbolism and occult imagery within these paintings that we miss due to our ignorance of medieval beliefs. as great as bosch is i still prefer brughel, not only were his hellish visions equal to bosch he also painted some wonderfull pictures of the changing seasons and pictures of leppers and blind men which have a humanity to them which bosch lacks. one further note on the temptation of st anthony, it was origially hanged in the walls of a medieval sanitarium. i didnt even know they had them then, and i doubt putting up vivid pictures of the hellish torments you are going to suffer in the afterlife would have done the patients any good at all.

hey idostuf, that blue ciity painting puts me in mind of a painting i once saw by pissarro, dont remember what it was called but it was a nocturnal parisiene street scene and had the same energy to it that yours does, good work.
i like metaphors middle drawing [actually all of them] but this one especially. i really like intricate abstracts such as these.
i would like to recomend some artists to you all [ones that i admire greatly] who tend to get overshadowed by the likes of [the overrated] picasso, rembrandt and van gogh. these are all just my opinions on a few of my favourite artists:
max ernst, ernst is possibly the best surrealist [him or rene magritte] and is deffinately the best dadaist. his works are primal, dreamlike and intelligent. unlike dali his works are true surrealism, even though dali is the first surrealist to spring to mind.
l s lowry, i used to really hate his work, but with time, study and understanding he is now my favourite contempary expressionist. his 1925 self portrait [in which he wears a hat] is stunning. it achieves something that very few painters have ever captured on canvas, his living soul.
paul klee, with artists you tend to like most of their work, but a few of their pictures you hate. its not that way with klee, eveything of his that i have seen is utterly brilliant. vibrant colours, disjointed patterns, tonal mastery and abstracts that are about things and not just abstracts. the man was one of the few artists that i truly think of as being a genius.
a e steggman, why this guy isnt the most famed painter around is beyond me, his works veer from brutal simplicity to sublime style. he was also the most amazing, generous and caring person as well, totally inspiring.
well, there you go. i hope this inspires you to look these guys up, they may not be in the a list of popular artists but there work is astonishing, brilliant and varied, modern art is dead untill it can be classed as equal to them.
