Time to grow our own

Hi all.

Most mesages on this forum are about the drought.I got so sick of the dry spells i decided to grow my own.My first grow and seems to be going ok.
It's growing by numbers a kid could do it.

There not in pots mate 3 on the right are jiffy pellets in rockwool.2 on left are all rockwool i put plastic over to stop algae build up on the cubes.
There in an (NFT) system

They look nice fella, remember don't start the flower cycle before the 15 or 16th internode. A lot of peeps try to flower before the plants are fully mature and end up with second rate shit.

The plants in the 2 top pics r 13 days from seed.And the 2 bottom r 17 days old. No not sexed will take cuttings soon and force them to show sex.
Hoping for at least 1 female to keep as a mother plant for taking clones.
And fill my other trays.

Hi all sorry for the delay in posting recent pics.Well they are looking ok at 31 days old took 2 clones of each just for sexing them so if the clones live will know in 2 weeks how many females i got to keep as mothers.

Some good stuff guys, The dreaded drought has also forced me to start growing my own.My hydro is all set up ready to go , i am being supplied a cutting from a reputable grower so no seed start for me, i dont really know the guy all that well so i am a tad unsure whether to pick his brains for growing tips hence the reason i have turned to these forums.

i am gonna strt the plant on 18/6 light cycle : how long do i keep this cycle up.
i will only feed fresh water for about a week before adding half the reccomended dosage of nutes which are Aqua Flakes A
i was going to add the remaining dosage of nutes after about a week and then slowly introduce those over a few days.
i have read that the pump should be put on a timer aswell as the light if so what would you reccomend as far as watering intervals go and would i need to eventually put the pump on 24/7.
can u give me any advice on pruning as i want my plant to bush out rather than reach for the sky.
if i can get my weed to the flowering stage without any major setbacks i will be well pleased so i will leave all the rest of my burning questions till then. many thanks guys hope you can help this noobie:thumbsup:

Here's how the main plants look now shit load of leaves died after i took the clones must of infected the plants they did look a lot worse than this slight recovery since i took the clones.Switched to 12/12 on monday and put bloom in the res leaves looking like they have slight nute burn so will add some fresh water to dilute whats in there.only put them in flower to see how they go probably die but i am a newbie lol.The clones are 11 days old today eight look good 2 are dead i think will take a couple of pics in a bit for you so check back later.(AND FUCK BOLTON)

Yeah i have an air pump and water pump running with that light as well.
it's about 1.50 a day extra quite steep really but with a decent grow and you will easy cover the cost of the electric and the equipment you buy to start with. from second grow all profit.

YEE HAA,I got roots on some of the clones can't believe how happy it made me feel success. First time i ever cloned 2 out of 10 look dead but others look great roots on 4 that i looked at so check them again tomorrow afternoon.Will post pics for you as well some root porn.

Hi all well nothing spectacular but roots all the same.

Hudson. I cut my clones at a 45 degree just below the 4th node.Then dipped them in clonex rooting gel.then put then straight in rockwool cubes.then straight into the propogator which has a layer of hydroton clay pebbles to stop my roots hitting the bottom because i dont have a heating mat.I misted the dome three times a day then once a day after a week so they get use to less humidity to prepare them to come out and into the system.

I'm impressed by all the greenness as a non-grower. Very parched around here in South Wales......it's enough to turn your fingers green!

But one thing that bothers me, do those HPS lights get very hot? They seem to be something of a fire hazard.

Hi jess,

Yeah they do get red hot but the one i use is aircooled.no fire hazard really if you do your grow room properly.if your thinking of growing you could try fluorescent lights like the T5 are great for seeds cuttings and vegging.

Thanks for that floyd, only tried cloning a couple of times, my success rate was only about 50/50, but i cut at the 3rd node so i'll wait for the 4th and hopefully more should survive.

no worries m8 i will help if i can.I just learned you should use superthrive before and after cloning to help the plant develop new growth. As well as foliar feeding for about 2 weeks before cutting as well so i got my additives today (superthrive)(nitrozyme)and(liquid oxygen)So i know i still have a lot to learn.This was my first go at cloning suppose we have to do to learn.

Well been a while since i last posted here's a quick update.The clones in my last post 4 where female there in the 1st 2 pics on the left the 5 on the right where clones i took from plants in flower i made a bubbler for 1 to keep as a mother plant seems to be growing quick and the six clones you see in these pics are going in another nft tray tomorrow so i will have 16 females in there the smell is so strong i love it. :) :D :thumbsup:

Well i have added my ther NFT tray now so am going to flip 12/12 tomorrow and start flowering but will get some clones of the plant in the bubbler first that suckers growing fast man.Just look at the roots crazy i could'nt even see any 10 days ago LOL, The first pic of the roots was taken five days ago and the other 2 where taken yesterday so you can see how quick the roots grow.

Hi ET,

Hope everythings still running smooth with your grow m8.If your going to make a bubbler like this you only need a mop bucket and an air pump and a little bit of hydroton this is my first 1 and have to say am impressed with it.
I used a mop bucket and added a flap made from the correx you get with nft systems and covered it in mylar.that way i dont have to keep peeling a lid of a bucket to top up the nutes cos you have to top up daily when there big like my 1 is now. I will post some pics tomorrow show you how there doing i took 8 clones and will keep the best 3 as mothers.

I have made mu plans and stuff, and am ready to begin come Tuesday (like start building my grow room) than by the end of the week i should be ready to plant!

Hey floyd,

Yeah, the PK-13-14 is good (use it myself, am just gonna start flowering this weekend and will use whole time in flower period) I was actually thinking more along the lines of "RIPEN" which increases yield AND the :) THC content :)in the final product. Used during last 10 days. It's a hormone that gives a very stong signal to the plants that their time is up and gives it a signal to dramatically ramp up the THC production.

Still, your grow looks wicked!!! :) :) :) You must be getting very excited!

Hi floyd,

Haven't started a thread but I will just for you :) I have to get my digital camera back (film tends to lead to arrest :() I have just spent a very tiring 4 hours completey moving my room around (attic) and now have a 24 hours area (have noticed a sliver of light leakage but am too shagged out to fix it tonight [having a VERY large scotch and lemonade prior to crashing!]) and have a 12 hour area for the 8 plants of feminised Skunk #11 I plants 40 days ago (have let veg for a bit longer). I also have a bunch of bag seed that has come up but have stretched out like mad as I put them under the MH lamp the others were veging under and they were a bit to shaded by the others. Hope they sort themselves out now there in a room on their own. The others have now been put into flower as of tonight and have repotted and watered with PK-13-14, A, B and S.A. booster. (Will use Ripen in the last 10 days then flush for 2 days with Pina Colada flush). They should be happy. It's nice to see the lovely yellow light of the HPS, makes a change from the stark MH white/blue.

I am using Coir (coconut husk fibre) but am thinking of your bubbler system as I was WELL impressed with your roots. I thought my root bundles were good with the VERY airy coir, but yours beat mine hands down!! And as we know ROOTS=BUD!

Will get my camera back off my mate and take some pics this weekend.

Sounds like you have great setup there sounds like you have put the hard work in to your grow room already.Now it's time to kick back and wait for the rewards am going to try the pk13-14 on my next grow with the ripen.Am also going to try the fulvic and humic acid as am told thats what i need.I thought my plants had nute burn but am constantly told it's a defficiency by other well more experienced growers so they must be right and am always open to advice. :jointsmile:

I was out most of the day and did'nt want to start to late in the day so am going to start chopping and trimming the buds tomorrow. After liverpool beat chelsea 3-1 am even gonna bet on that lol.I will post some pics tomorrow after ive murdered the plants and give the weight of the crop wet.

Ya know Floyd,

Me, and probably a few others on this site (which, come on let's face it, is the best weed site and all others are really just kidding themselves) have been watching your grow from the first post with great fondness and some thing has occurred to me.

It's not that hard, and it doesn't take all that long.

I think that you've shown that with a plan and determination if you pay attention and don't slack too much you can build a nice setup and get a professional quality bud.

As you know I started my own grow after seeing you start yours and for the same reasons!!! (Sorry dude, still no thread or pictures as mate hasn't returned digital camera yet :() I started mine from commercial seed in pellets and then in coir fibre which is slower than clones (which I've tried but never been able to get work) . The seeds are Skunk #11 because they were cheaper (I'm a student and I'm always skint!) :() and I've since planted a second cycle of bag seed.

It's hard to believe that this is your first grow. In our first couple of grows, I think, we all normally make quite a number of mistakes that limit the evential yield and quality of the bud that our grow would have yielded under absolutely ideal conditions with the most experienced of growers. BTW, I really like how your first ever grow cycle was AK-47 from the top of the line seedbank Serious Seeds (nice choice!) I mean most people do a bag seed or two or maybe get a cheap bag of seeds from a shop and put em in nasty old soil. But for your first grow you chose one of the best seeds and then went hydro.

I'll bet you're anxious for 10-14 days from now when you grind some up and roll it up and smoke that mutha! Since the gears all yours (I take it you're not a dealer but a guy who got sick of the market) I think that you should take a whole 1/4oz and make a big ol' Ceech 'n Chong joint out of the lot!

And the other point it that is doesn't take that long. Your grow is done, mine is in flower and now about 4 foot tall and the flowers are starting to come out and it occurs to me that it's not a lot of time gone by.

Hi All,

Am back again and am 32 days into flower on my second ak47 grow.Only using 9 plants this time round had 10 but 1 died : ( i let them veg a lil longer this time so the plants average 5 foot the tallest being 5.1/2 foot.Heres a few pics of day 30 in flower will post updates every week just to show the change in the last 4 weeks of flowering.

Sorry i never completely updated my second grow anyway i ended up with 27oz of 9 plants.
Am currently on my third grow and have just put them in flower so i will post weekly until harvest time this time am only doing 9 again but all (DWC) just to compare to my (NFT) grows.Plus i put 2 clones outdoors in may from my 2nd grow to see how they do here in sunny liverpool lol.And they seem good am forcing 1 and letting 1 go naturally.These pics where taken on the 18/08/2007 The last pic is the plant in my garden am currently force flowering.

looking good as your grows normally do floyd, i know what you mean by being lazy mate, if i had 27oz i'd be lazy as well, keep it going bro it's all good. you and Ecky thump(sadly ecky dont post anymore)inspired me to do my own little grow op so doing some LR#2 in the garden and in the next couple of weeks going to build a small cupboard outside so i can grow all year round.

My second grow i vegged 4-5 weeks average height was between 38-42 inches.They finished at about 66 inches about 5.1/2 foot tall and averaged 3 oz a plant under 1600 watts of light hope that helps.

Hi all,

Weedmaster i sacked the security man i reckon he was having some of me buds of lol.Here's a few pics taken yesterday on my phone as my camera is broke :(. I have (3) 600w lights on now 12/12 on my last grow 1 had 1600w all together so see if get any more bud from the extra 200 watts.The last pic is my outdoor ak 30 days in flower now.

i know you dont use soil in your indoor grow but what about the outdoors one is that in soil?
how much a week in electric does it cost to run the 3x 600w lamps + your fans, just interested as i'm doing a bit of how much is it going to cost homework for my next grow project.

Hi wm,

It cost about 2.50 a day so about 75 quid a month well worth the money because you can make a few grand if you want or just smoke a lot of good weed instead.The outdoor plants are in biobizz all mix soil with a layer of clay pebbles on the top so after watering the clay dries fast and stops the insects attracted to moisture getting in the soil i also have a layer of clay at the bottom aswell.
