In need of some advice. A friend of mine has a lung disease we believe could be cured by cannabis due to the fact that cannabis wipes out all pre-cancerous cells. We live in Orange County California (laguna beach). Does anyone know of the laws on how to obtain a medical card in the area?

The law in your area is the same as the law in all of California, with exceptions as to how much one can possess and cultivate (which is regulated by local jurisdictions). Proposition 215 and SB420 permit you to legally use medical marijuana, provided that your doctor recommends it. You must have "... any illness for which marijuana provides relief".

Your best bet is Medicann. 1-866-mdcnnbs.

PS- If whomever is obtaining this cannabis permit isn't legit, be advised that the law won't treat him kindly if it goes to court or if the person is caught dealing/distributing the weed. Don't abuse the system like so many people do and everything should work out fine.

Just get a copy of his medical records, make an appointment, go in and get legal. To research your friend's condition, just do a search using the name of the condition and cannabis abstract . This will get you all the new scientific studies. Being even "semilegal" is such a releif!

Thanks for all the answers guys, my friend will be going to see his doctor sometime this week. I have given him a copy of this post to make sure he has all the information you have given me. I'll let you know how it goes.

Medicann kicks ass! They just issued me a card. The whole experience - from making the appointment on the phone to walking out the door after getting my prescription - was easy and straight-forward and totally painless. It's definitely worth giving a try, they're good people.
