Hi, can you please help me get rid of what is causing my leaves to turn brown and die? The plant is 6 weeks and has been doing this since week 3. There is new growth on top but the bottom isn't looking good. What do I do to stop this? :sadcrying

Looks a bit like nute burn to me.Though I have seen that same burn when I forgot to water.Did they lay down and you watered them back up?Are you using a strong fert already?Seems like it may be getting past it now since the symptoms have not reached the upper fan leaves so I wouldn't worry too much.

looks to me like the leaves above are cutting the light source, try pruning the dying leaves and giving it more surrounding light, a good idea would be to run clean water through your dirt to remove the un needed nutrients, -if it isnt to do with light...

I have the exact same Problem But mine dont look that ruff. At one point I believed it was bugs eating the tops of my leafs (I saw small Larva style bugs yellow and orangish colour) then the leafs dying slowly under the light. But I only saw the bug on one plant that I had brownish leafs and now most plants have browing leaves. I will post some picture tonight.

I think its a Heat issue. It can get pretty hot in my Cab and Its almost as if I see the leaf satrt Green then slowly look like it fades in colour then after a week it gets brittle and brown.

Maybe its a nute Burn, I feed then a little nutes at 3 weeks old 1/4 strength and watered down from that too. Botaincare Pro Grow. But the top leafs are nice and healthy so I dont think its nutes.

I tested my Ph Runoff water and It sits around 5 - 6 I think that is ok. I use ProMix BX so Its balanced etc.

I think its heat cuz the leafs stand up on the tip edges and I read that if they stand up they are protecing themselfs from Heat. but The very tips of some of my leafs curl down. Not sure what that means yet still searching./

Will post some pictures later. Hope we get this one figured out

Also to Add it looks like I am using the same Lights aas you too. Homedepot Cool Whites. Twisty kind 6500K

Maybe its a by product of cheeper lights. Instead of say T5s or grow shop lights.

Thanks for all your replies!

Plant history....
(please keep in mind this is my 1st try growing)

Originaly planted seed in regular 6 inch pot.
Used organic potting soil rich in hummus.
Seed sprouted and grew to 7 inches in 6 weeks.
Tap water only when soil is dry for 4 weeks.
During week 5 (see pic) brown spots starting to invade plant.
WEEK 5 ARCHIVE PIC....
[attachment=o86809]
Added 20 drops of liquid Miracle Grow 8-7-6 to 1 liter of water.
No improvement after 1 week.

WEEK 7....
Transplanted into 5 gallon plastic bucket.
Made several dime sized holes at bottom of bucket.
Added rocks to bottom of bucket.
Used organic soil no nutrients (actualy 0.5 - 0.4 - 0.2).
Mixed perlite and vermiculite with soil.
Immediately watered with 25-10-10 powdered nutrient until dripping below.
Soil is still moist deep down, 13 days later.
No water no food since, top of soil getting dry now.
Week 9 starts on sunday sept.10.

Plant is in small room with white walls.
Temperature varies from 72f to 78f.
Fan providing a medium steady breeze.
4 CFL: (2 27W 1660lumens 6500K each)+(2 13W 800lumens 4100K each).

Abattoir Dream, I went forward and took your advice. See pics.
Pruning and light positioning.

Kdspeacial, I check often for bugs. Sometimes the odd tiny fly
will be on the wall but none on the plant or under leaves.
Maybe it is heat, I'm not sure.

Mscaboo, I hope all the info is here if not ask me please.
Except for PH. No clue. I know I should. Any affordable ways???
Thanks!!

I wasn't able to edit my post above so I will do it here.
About the group of 3 pictures...
1- Overall view. Lights positioning and dead leaf pruning done.
2- On the big leaf, is it the beginning of the end for it? See circles.
3- New growth at the base, where older leaves have died in the past.

Thanks everyone for your help!

It's not the lights you're using, mine are worse. It very well may be the AMMOUNT of them though, partly ... that poor thing is light starved. Look at how much it's stretching!!! My own plant has about as many leaves and nodes, but with about three inches of very bushy height. I also have seven of those lights over it for 18/6. It's very inexpensive and it works. I'd say don't do any pruning. If you need to move something out of the light path, use twine and hold it off to the side that way. LST that thing.

Hi, you say it's better to have 7 less brighter bulbs?
Can you tell me the Watts, lumens, and Kcolour please?
I would love to see a pic of how your lights surround your plant, that would help alot! I had 2 lights for the first 3 weeks, then 4 lights until now. I pruned the dead looking leaves and the ones that were going to end up that way only. I hope that's ok. For LST, the main stem looks like it is rigid, should I bend the smaller branches? Thanks!

Hi all, plants are looking better.
I should get more CFL bulbs.
Is it better for me to buy more 27W 6500k at 1660 lumens OR 40W 2700K at 2900 lumens?
In other words what is more important: the colour (K) or the lumens?
I thought I read that 6500k is better for vegetation but would like to know your advice. Thanks!

lumens more because your plant is soaking up light through photosynthesis. you'll notice higher wattage is more lumens. I always use "sunlight bulbs" you can't go wrong. it's full spectrum. but since you're in veg stage I'd go with red.
