View Full Version : Anyone need a prodigy
Hi all, i have been looking through the threads for about a week and im all confussed.
i have a 250w hps lamp,
im looking to grow 2-3 plants in soil.
Was thinking about using a cabinet about 2ft w x 3ft d x 4ft h, my mate makes them for a living so no cost :D, would this be a good size?
If not would would you recommend.
Thanx for looking Rhyw(uk).

I think you are expecting too much from a 250-watt light, in that size cabinet, ... you can grow, but don't be looking for big buds ... either go to a 400-watt lamp, or reduce cabinet size to 2'x2'x4' ... :smokin:

That cab will be perfect IMO. You can use the 250w HPS and I would get 4 42W CFL lights that are 6500K and mount them in the corners at about 20 in up from the bottom of the cab. I am not sure if you even know what CFL's are and what 6500k means, just ask, or do some research first and then you can ask more informed questions. Look at some more pictures and threads in the cabinet section and get an idea of what people are using and how they are using it. You need to think about fans, reflective material, light proofing and smell, just to name a few basics.
A rule of thumb to follow for lighting requirements is to get 50w's of light per square FT for optimal growth. With a 2x3 cab you have 6 Square FT x that by 50 and it = 300w. The idea that I am suggesting with the 4 CFL lights and your HPS will give you more than 50w Per Square FT and also provide you with a full spectrum that will allow you to do veg and flower in one cab. I am not sure what the fellow was talking about that said you couldn't do it or what the comment was based on unless I read something wrong. I think with a 250W and the CFL lights you could do all right for some personal stash depending on how much you toke and how dedicated you are willing to be in this learning process. Justaseed a grower on this board has pulled some nice harvests using a style called SCROG with a 250 set up. I think that he pulled over a QP, but he is an awesome scrogger who knows is stuff, the only reason I mention it is to let you know some of the options. Look up his grow titled "Lovely Ladies".

The onlf cfl's i can find over here are 124w 6400k red or 2700k blue? they any good?
blue is for vegging, red is for flowering. so yes they are good just get depends on how much wattage you need.
Cheers dude's now for my next set of question...
A smell scrubber, this is an important item for me as my other half would blow a fuse if she could smell it, i would if i could make it myself, i know it requires carbon but i wouldn't know what carbon to use, the only carbon filter i have used was in my fish tank filter, is it the same stuff???
Now for air circilation, was thinking of using two 80mm pc for fans sucking air in and one 80mm pc fan for blowing out, i assume to the smell scrubber?
Any thoughts ?
Done some research on carbon filter's, decided on the RVK 125mm Extractor Fan 225m3/hr with the carbon filter capable of 240m3/hr flow rate, would this do well in my 2x3x4 box with two to three plants?
Oh my seeds arrived today they called early durbun anyone used these?

Never heard of Early Durban, sounds like a relative of Durban Poison, which I got as freebies from a previous seed order. If that's so, then it looks Sativa-ish, big, thick stalks. I only got one to grow out of those (but that's probably because they were old unviable seeds, which is why they were giving them away as freebies). Not sure if it's male or female yet, don't even know what I will do with it, as I was planning on growing some Blue Mystic. If it's a male, I might breed it with the Blue Mystics. If it's female, I'll probably flower it.
The fan and filter sounds just right for your size box. My woman actually likes the smell of pot plants (as do I), but she doesn't like smelling it all over the house for the obvious reasons either. I went through the same thing. ;)

Is that durban a big strain? You need to eventually think about some short bushes IMO unless you are going to SCROG. Keep up the good work and cover all your bases.
Adieu
I need some more info on this scrog. going to check it out now,
any info please ???
Well done my serches on scrog and, couldnt find anything for beginers, any help on this subject would be a big help, im starting to get p****d off with smoking solid and having to pay for it    :cursing:

ScroG stands for Screen of Green. You put a screen about a foot above the soil and instead of letting the plants grow straight up through it, you bend them under the screen so that the light hits the entire area more evenly than if you have an assortment of branches with varying heights.
You can use chickenwire and 1"x2" planks to build a ScroG screen very inexpensively. Mine probably cost about ten bucks to build.

you have them mixed up, 6400k is a blue spectrum and 2700k is the red spectrum but yes they are the ideal spectrums for growing
This is the description of the herb that hopefully with you guys help grow, tell me what you think
As comfortable outdoors in most temperate regions as indoors, Early Durban is a tough plant that will reward the grower with high yields quickly, mostly Sativa in nature with a cerebral/physical effect and an Aniseed taste.
Developed: S. Africa, California, Holland F-1 hybrid
Sativa / Indica: Mostly Sativa
Appearance: Lots of branches with sticky buds
Smell / taste: Leaning towards the Durban side
High / strength: Very strong, mentally and physically
Yield: Very high
Sowing time: May / June
Outdoor harvest: Early October (UK, Holland)
Flowering period: 8 weeks (12 hrs indoor)
ok, my cabinet material's are arriving today, should i still go for 2wx3Lx4Hft?
ok cabinet made, painted it white inside with weathersheild gloss so it reflective, lights in 1x 250 fps, 2x 125w cfl's 6400k blue/white. What temp's do i need to start veg off, i also recived some superthrive, when do i start using that and how much do i mix?

Are you talking about hot cold temps or kelvin temps.. the temps should be between 75-80.. the kelvins for vegging are around 6000 like the cfl's that you have... about the superthrive.. u should wait untill the plant atleast has its fifth real set of leaves.. and about 1 or 2 drops per gallon on that stuff cuz its very concentrated.. hope this helps.. good luck
