so i was jsut smoking a cig, all these theories and stuff that have been coming up in the news or studies or whatever have got me semi worrying, worrying actually...i've just been thinkin, do yall think the worlds going to end in our life time or our childrens?
and i was just thinking
it seems like everything we see, everything in world, is used for something, opionions on that.---??

Every generation has worries about the world ending.
Think about it this way, 300 years ago would we have known about the tsunami? Probably not for years later. 500 years ago, would we have known about katrina? 100 years ago, would we have known about global warming? You get my point.
If the world does end in our lifetime, then I'll wear a dress and mow your lawn or something.

Simply put, many who do believe the world is going to end soon follow institutions that have been saying that for thousands of years. Humanity may end, but I think even we would be hard pressed to remove ALL life from earth.

Interesting. Care to cite the sources and methodology of your many years of careful research? Or am I supposed to just take your word for it? Because unless you can actually come up with some kind of evidence, it doesn't seem any more plausible than any of the other predictions out there (most of which don't predict 2006-2009 as the correct time frame).

I've been in hospital for attempted suicide. I'm over that now. Life can end in a split second. People get run over by buses everyday. You can hide under the bed and read your horoscope but there is one thing for sure... no one knows when they are going to die. Do you want to spend what little time we have on earth worrying about the end... you could reach 100 and have spent 50 years worrying. Just imagine what you could accomplish in all those years. Steve Irwin may have left us early but he lived life to the fullest and done more than most people would do in a hundred lifetimes. This might be the only time you have to experience life... do you want a life under the bed or a life that says WOW!

I just had a brain wave. When all the oil is pumped out of the ground, r we left with air holes? If so how many air holes and how does this affect the stability of the Earths equilibrium?

Invevitably the world will end one day, and with each decade that passes, the path to that end accellerates as we (collectively) continue to knacker our environment in acheiving short term profits. The justification, constantly, for not changing our approach, is the increased cost, the inability to compete in markets dominated by the exploitation of 3rd world countries. America refused to conform to the Kyoto protocol citing the impact on America's economy as the key reason - "Do you have any idea of the cost of the Kyoto protocol?" - a short term, egotistic view and America are not alone.
The general view seems to be - I must make profit, f*ck the future beyond my lifetime.
The world is driven by the financial markets, we outsource our skilled labour to India and other third world locations in the name of profit, and ignore the fact that more and more people are losing work and dropping into lower levels of poverty in our western countries. The additional impact of that, is that we are then forced (because we have less money) to buy cheap, poor quality products, whose manufacturing techniques are often key contributors to pollution and the knackered environment.
Before this turns into an Essay, there is some encouragement - the Ozone layer is beginning to heal itself - 2 decades later than anticipated, but it is happenning. Perhaps it will be enough to decrease the Global Warming effect, prevent further erosion of our ice-packs, and prevent huge quantities of fresh water from pouring into the sea, disturbing the key currents essential for habital climates around the world (including places like the UK).
More than this, many western countries are now adopting recyclying in a more effective way - but the Governments will apply increased taxation and charges to encourage us to not "throw so much away" - this is self defeating as this pushes us to (as mentioned above), buy more cheap products, made in locations exempt from the Kyoto protocol, and manufactured in a manner which is not "environmentally friendly". But - recycling is definately a step in the right direction, and is a way we can all help a little.
We are becoming wiser - finally we are learning that leaving electronic devices in stand-by and not turning them off is a contributor to our increased electric bills and global warming... more and more of us a re remembering to turn our TV's off instead of just to standby. If one person does it, the effect is minimal, if 50 million households do it (UK population), the effect is significant..... so do your part too...
Man ... going to get off my soapbox now ... you might have noticed this is one of my pet subjects.... I am not some "Green Avenger", but I do love this world, the people in it, the music, the love, the green.... I don't want to be part of the generation that knew we were f*cking it up, and did nothing!

Anyhow, I was born in '69 and for most of my younger life everyone was certain that a nuclear war with the Soviet Union was just around the corner. There were always articles in the paper talking about how many taks and missles we had vs how many they had. Kids were going to psychiatrists about it, they made movies about it, Pink Floyd had a song about it, etc., etc. It wasn't a question of "if?" as much as "when?". People really thought that we'd see a nuclear holocaust in our lifetime. Then, in 1991 the Soviet Union collapsed.
Now there a whole new set of worries: global warming, hair spray and the ozone layer, the evil Muslim horde. Are these any more likely to destroy the world in our, our our children's, lifetime. Not likely, there may be subtle changes but not the end of the world. That won't happen for a long long time. There are certainly things to be worried about but we shouldn't live in fear.

The world won't end on December 12, 2012, not even according to the Mayans and their calendar. From wiki:

That big asteroid isn't going to hit us. They say now that it'll come within 100,000 miles though, which is pretty close. But pretty close is far enough. It isn't big enough to do that much damage anyway, even if it did hit. Localized damage, maybe a little more if it hit water.
Incidentally, rocks that hit water are far more dangerous to the human race than those that hit land, oddly enough. A big rock hitting land might wipe out a state-sized area. A big rock hitting water would vaporize monumental amounts of water and cover the earth with clouds for years, cause tsunamis and tidal waves and wipe out cities along whatever coasts are near. For a good fictional account of a big rock hitting the earth, and the aftermath, I recommend 'Lucifer's Hammer' (by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle). Great book!

December 21st, 2012. I've known about this theory for 2 years from the late Terence Mckenna. He said he did not exactly know what will happen but he knows from some complex mathematical equation that everything on earth will change drastically. I don't know if it will be good or bad. Prepare for the worst everyone but try not to think about it too much or you will go insane. There is nothing we can do to change whatever happens except prepare and wait.
PS: I think all of can.com should invest in HAM radios in case any shit goes down. If whatever happens cuts off our internet and phone lines, HAM and CB radios will b the only form of communication.

It would be small scale, but I only used it to lay foundation for saying humans have a chance of dying out before the planet does.
But within the next few years? No. And definitely not within a Christian context. The book of Revelations wasn't written to be a prediction of the apocalypse, it was meant to be read contextually.

its all bullshit, ,take a lesson from kevin costner, you are talking about global warming, sweet, we will all be flooded and will be like water world we will have sex with fishes and grow gills and become mutants where a bag of dirt will be like gold in retail..... there will still be hot sexy chicks but they will be mermaids... but horny ones who love sex and then after they have had sex with lots off people and become skanks we will cut ther tails of and eat them, we will use sinners as bait for sharks and fish... oh and i will own a floating fish and chip take away where the price for small fish & chips will be sex. and sauce will be 5 dollars but only women can buy my food.......... and a rigger of weed will be 4000 bucks (aud) yeah thats what i think and the weed will be good shit ok..

You know what. I agree with think green on this one. The human race will be gone before the world ends. Not from an ice age though. Just look at the dinosaurs. They were once the dominant species on earth, if they were alive today they still would be. My theory is that the earth is alot older then we think. Every 100,000 years or so the earth restarts kinda and a new (not all the time) dominant species emerges. Sometimes I think Earth is just an experiment by something, but I think alot of things.

i dont think the world is about to completely end anytime soon. Whatever may happen i believe we will be able to adapt to it. no matter how bad we fuck up the world will be here until the sun burns up. What will happen soon is some sort of regression. Throughout history society takes huge advances, and then falls back some. Something like global warming, bird flu, or a nuclear war, i think, will not completely wipe out the entire world, but will definitlely set us back a hundred or so years, if not more.
