A rant or a rave. Not sure what this is or where to put it so I put it here in Recreation because it is the place I visit most.

Every day and every night we choose what to do and when to do it. Every choice we make is based on previous choices and experciences of said chooser. So I say this, when you see a bum on the street or a bird in the air take into acount that the bird or bum (or anything living) has had life experiences and made life choices different from yours. Take into concideration that the bum may have been born to a family that lost it all to scandle or the bird tortured by confused children. Take in the fact that the bum or bird has been influenced by choices made by others with the same potential as you. Then when the bum begs for change or the bird tries to steal one of your fries that he/it is just making choices. Choices which previous choices and experiences have lead he/it to believe is the best choice for that moment. Take into the consideration that you have relatively no idea what he/it has been through. Remember that the bum may have been poor for a day or a year, or that the bird could have just eaten or not eaten for weeks.

I leave you with this, next time you make a choice take into acount all I have said. Instead of automaticaly saying no to the bum ask him "Why do you need the change?" instead. Instead of scaring the bird off take a look at how skinny or fat the bird may be. Rid your mind of the stereotype that bums are lazy druggies or that birds are greedy annoyances. Then and only then ,after recieving your answer or looking at the bird, make your choice.

Apply this to your life and we will be one step closer to a better (or at least more aware) world.

That's a very Buddhist way of thinking. It also helps to think this way when something bad happens to you. No matter what happens to you, it's because of choices you have made. Just accept that fact and don't blame others. If you can prevent the same thing from happening in the future, then make the choice to do so. But don't worry about what has already happened because it'll never change.
