I was wondering about this....If someone emails you from this site and says they want to get together they live near and dont know any smokers there new to the area and you email back and ask them if there a cop do they have to tell you the truth. If they say no and turn out to be a cop can they bust you for anything??? I already told the guy I dont sell weed but might get some and would smoke a bowl with him if he stopped by...What could happen to me if this guy is a cop????

Budman, that's a real popular rumor about cops having to identify themselves as such if you ask them a straight-out question. But that's all it is--a rumor. LEOs can and do lie about their identity on occasion in order to make a bust or progress toward one. Watch the show "Cops" when they're doing prostitution stings and you'll see them lie in nearly every other scenario when they're asked outright.
If you worry that this person may be a cop, don't take any unnecessary risks. In theory, if he is a cop he could indeed arrest you if and when the weed came out. I rather doubt he is. For one thing, most serious cops wouldn't worry about someone with only enough weed to smoke, but still. You don't know.

Even things cops "can't" lie about they still do all the time, and get away with it. In court it's your word against his, and the judge will always believe the cop over the pot head.

I'm guessing that rumor started with the Movie 'Blow' when Pee Wee Herman asked Johnny Depp if he was a cop, and he had to tell him or it was entrapment. Just a guess-I remember taking note of it and wondering if it was true.

Cops don't setup meetings to just bust smokers. If he thought you were dealing he might. Just don't say you deal. If he busts you for smoking hers a faggot.

Let it be perfectly and totally clear, police can lie about whether they are LEO. There is only one lie a cop can't tel that I know ofl, and it deals with interfering with your right to counsel after you are arrested. Otherwise they can lie about anything and everything. Now, it is a little dicey if they consume illegal drugs, that is a much better test. But even that is not reliable, if they are in personal danger they will use drugs.

I've been thinking that we should all start keeping portable tape recorders in our vehicles in case of police stops. And by "we" I mean EVERYONE. Video cameras would be even better, though you might need someone there to film for you.
I wonder how the average city police officer would react to a digital video camera recording his traffic stop.
Actually, I'm pretty sure a larger amount of police cars are being required to carry video cameras mounted on the dashboard.
I must be high, contradicting myself like that,
Let me check.

Ever heard of entrapment?

That's not entrapment.
Entrapment is when they entice you with extra motivation unrelated to what they're asking for.

also what i found out because my cousin is a cop is that if u say u dont concent to any searches then they will hold u there and get a warrent. then they will rip your car up and if they find anything then not only do u get introuble but u gotta pay for ur car bein fixed u might as well let the cop search your car because he isent goin to rip ur shit up and the chanses of him finding anything is alot better than when he/she brings backup and they rip your car apart. so i think this movie is good and all but here are to ways to avoid getting busted. 1 dont smoke in the car (it make the cop wanna search more because he knows there was bud in here )2hide it hide it hide it!(think of the last place a cop whould ever look in your car i mean if u jus let him look 1 copis not goin to do that thurough job searching i mean he is goin to look but if he dosent have a reason to look hard like smell or pipes lyin around then he is goin to let u go) plz take my advice guys peace

they cant do that, cops can lie you know.
they cannot get a warrant to search your car for refusing to consent to a search.
in order to get a warrant they need probable cause and refusing to allow a search cannot be used as probable cause because you are simply exercising your rights and your rights cannot be used against you.
sorry man, but your piggy cousin lied to you.
from what i know, they also need a warrant for them to search your car with a drug dog because it is still considered searching.
of course, sometimes cops violate your rights anyway by searching your car without your consent and without a warrant and in that case you can take it to court and have any and all charges dropped and you can sue the state/county/whatever.

In jurisprudence, entrapment is a legal defense by which a defendant may argue that he or she should not be held criminally liable for actions which broke the law, because they were induced (or entrapped) by the police to commit said acts. For the defense to be successful, the defendant must demonstrate that the police induced an otherwise unwilling person to commit a crime. However, when a person is predisposed to commit a crime, offering opportunities to commit the crime is not entrapment, a widely held misconception similar to the idea that police officers must answer questions truthfully if they are asked the same question three times, or that they must say "yes" if asked if they are a police officer.
so i guess you must appear unwilling to commit a crime or its legal for them to lie to you
wikipedia knows all :]

Unfortunately in the US, yes cops can say they are not a cop and still bust you.
It's a complete waste of time for cops going on the Internet to try and bust people for weed. Oh yea they would have nabbed 1 ounce of weed! Great work guys!! In Amsterdam, an American cop would probably get their ass kicked for doing such a ridiculous stunt because Dutch police know that drug use is a health matter and not a criminal one, unlike the American philosophy. They see drug use the same way a person who wants trans fat in their food..its their choice and their responsibility. American leaders address drug use as a morality issue, while the Dutch and most of Europe and Canada are starting to address it as managers.
However, I have no respect for people who use hard drugs like coke and heroin and speed and meth, but I am certainly not going to spend police resources trying to enforce morality upon them and lock them up. The United States has over 2 million people in jail!!! And about half are in for drug charges. They have violent offenders leaving early because they need room for the drug offenders which is absurd!!! Good work guys!! When my kid gets killed from a violent offender, I can blame the American prison system for letting them out loose so they could make room for some evil and tyrannical pot dealer.
Cops do this shit because cops don't want to go after people who will actually fight back such as the Mafia and other gang members who control the drug distribution. However, you can thank prohibition for new and dangerous drugs coming out such as meth.
The cops know that if they legalize, they will crush these organizations financially, but in effect some will loose their jobs because the criminals they created (illegal drug users) will not exist anymore.
Police need to go after REAL criminals such as murderers and rapists and child molesters and thieves...not drug users. Hold people accountable for what they do, not for what they put into their body.
