View Full Version : What do you think?

Okay, so the main political debate on this little island of mine is Smoking in public. A load of beaureacratic politicans, who probably never even go into a pub, club or a bar, are trying to get smoking in public places (especially pubs, clubs and bars) banned!

I think this is pathetic, to be totally honest. If people don't liek being in smokey enviroments, then they shouldn't go. The same way people who don't like alcohol shouldn't complain that they sell alcohol in restaurants and try and get it banned.

But anyway, what do you guys think about this debate? Smoking in public should be banned or not?

(P.S. A local politican was just on the news, and said "My colleagues and I all agree that we should not and can not tell adults how to live their lives, and we cannot make laws that condem adults for their choice of life style. If a person wants to smoke in their own home or outside, then it is their choice, not ours. BUT, I do feel we have a right to protect non-smokers from the risk of second hand smoke in public places such as clubs" Well, Mr What-the-fuck-ever, if THAT's how you feel, then get your 'colleagues' off their fat asses and legalize weed and stop 'condemning us' for our 'choice of life style'!!!)

The way I look at it is this:

As GHoST said, pubs and clubs have tradittionally been places where people go to drink and smoke - for smokers, this goes hand in hand; I quote Dennis Leary:
"I love beer - but without this (holds up cigarette), this (points to beer) is nothing"

I think that smoking should be banned in restaurants - I would hate to have to eat my food in a smoky atmosphere (even though I smoke), and frown upon those people who have the nerve to smoke in food places.
Noone should be allowed to smoke in places where there is children - schools, shops, etc etc.

As for pubs and clubs - I think that the industry would rapidly decline if a ban on smoking was introduced.

It would be like me going into a church, and trying to ban prayer! I'm not religious, and think that those who follow religion are blind to the brainwashing that they are subjected to -but, hey - that's my opinion, and would never dream of trying to dictate what others' believe...it is their right, even if I disagree to it.

So, don't tell me that I cant spark up in a place that is traditionally 'tolerant' of such activities
Surely it is about choice of the individual - if I wanna kill myself with smoking (dope or otherwise) then that is my right as a free individual.

That said, one must also excersise a bit of diplomacy in these cases - ie, if I was in a pub with a group of friends that didn't smoke, then I would most likely remove myself from that group if I felt the need to smoke - common courtesy, init?
I wouldn't even smoke in my own car, if all my passengers were non-smokers.

My parents are dead against smoking, so even if they come to my house, I would refrain from smoking -or go outside, as is usually the case...if only to stop them nagging me lmaooo

Public areas, such as high streets and shops and the like, could maybe frown upon smokers - but in places like pubs and clubs...well, if ya don't like it - don't go there.

*takes a breath*

This UK gov. is continually trying to blind us to the real issues of the day by producing these stupid debates, so we 'forget' aboput what they're really up to; ie, destroying the fucking world...sheesh, they must think that we're as thick as shit----BRING ON THE REVOLUTION, i say..and bring it fast.
I am fed up to the back-teeth with their stupidity and constant refusal to listen to the public that they are SUPPOSED to be serving.

ASSHOLES!!!

I need to lie down a minute.....

And another thing...

What runs the world's economy?

TOBACCO, DRUGS, and OIL

Start banning those things left-right-and-center, where do you think that the economy will end up?

Yup...down the pan!

Cuh! Some of those politicians need to live in the real world for a few days..then maybe they'd get a better understanding of how much they are fucking up the place!
Instead, these politicians come from inbred aristocracy that haven't got a clue about how things work. All they know about is how to get the maximum amount of money for themselves, and fuck the rest of us.
In the UK, we live in a society that frowns upon success, and tend to try and destroy anyone that makes a life for themselves. If you have a high paid job (£100,000+ p.a.), you are penalised for your success with crippling taxes - is that fair?
Instaed of seeing a successful person, and saying, "well done, mate", people tend to say, "look at that flash bastard!"...is it any wonder that the general population is soooo apathetic?

Sorry, I aint had any smoke for nearly two days now, and I'm getting a little 'tetchy' lol

I agree with Resinate, no smoking in places where food is served or kids are. Other than that, go ahead and get enphyzema,...it's not my concern.

I'm with Res on this one.

I get through about 6 ounces of baccy a week and a cig is always in my hand (almost as if glued.)

I can't imagine not being able to smoke in a pub it just wouldn't be the same. And although I'll never smoke in non smoking company during meals and never around children I think that if the goverment would be taking the piss by banning it in public.

Now old ladies purfume is another matter altogether, you can be standing 300 yards away from an old dear with 100mph wind's blowing in the other direction and still be chocked towards a clapsed lung with a single whiff of the stuff.

So ban old ladies purfume in public,
not ciggerette's.

LOL..YEAH, BAN OLD LADIES oops, caps, sorry..
..and, whilst we're at it..those yappy type dogs, that they seem to insist on owning...lol

It's the cotton-wool society that we live in, folks...same with speed limits!
There is no such thing as a 'speed limit', by defintion alone!
If someone is gonna do 100mph down through a housing estate, then they should be strung up by their balls (cos is usually men that speed).
I always laught at that slogan that they use: Speed kills
Shit, if that were true, then anyone who has travelled on Concord should be dead...and Micheal Schumacher and co, must be dead too.....
..and I should be dead, cos I done a fair bit of speed in my time...

..maybe I'm dead...

I dunno wtf I'm on about...lol...
move along, there's nothing to see here...

If you were to look into my eyes, you'd see that there was a tiny white dot in the middle of each pupil...wierd. I've asked doctors about it, in the past, and they can't explain it. It's not cataracts!

I always used to think that I had some kind of special vision (which is 20/20 btw), but alas it is not.

I liked your other avatar too, but at least now I can read your posts without getting horny bwhahahahaha

We've had a Nationwide Smoking Ban since March 19th of this year. It was brought in as a "No Smoking in the Workplace" which basically means anywhere indoors, including your own home if you have a maid or homehelp.
Cheers for that Micheal Martin you party pooping ole fart

Alright, Res and 007 win for now...

The eye looked distorted, anyway.

Here's another vote for those little dogs that ppl carry around to be illegal in places were food is served. Isn't it some kind of a health code violation to have a little rat -like beast on a leash in a restaurant?

including your own home
FFS, thats just draconian!
Just let someone try to tell me what I can and can't do in my own home...sheesh, I thought we fought a war (WW2) to stop all this dictatorship crap!
Well, you can smoke in my house, Lulu - and you won't even get told off :)

I mean, what gives them the right to tell you what to do in your own house?
Bloody cheek, if you ask me...
Bloody politicians - wtf do they know?...

hehehe thanks MJM...I'm off to take a shower mwhahahaha
