I saw before somebody wrote about how you should put lava rock at the bottum of everything, for draining and for minerals. i was looking and i found some, but it looked like it was more for grills and charcoal. does anybody know if this is good or not? thank you.

Lava rock (for grills) should be fine.....also perlite and/or vermiculite mixed with soil is even better.

Just use a layer of lava rock under your soil mix...1 bag can spread out to several pots. then like DP said perlite and peat is what I add to my sterile soil
p.s.moving this to indoor growing.

I use the same stuff you got...Some people smash them up a little...personally, I use them as is. VERY IMPORTANT! You must rinse and rinse and rinse and...rinse again until no red dust water remains.
fill bottom of pot 1-2"deep and fill in with good potting soil leaving enough depth for your plant...place in plant and backfill.
what kind of soil are you using. This is important. If you mix yourself there are good ways and bad ways...so let us know...peace

If that's already got nutrients...you might regret it...It not a formula developed to give our plants the necessary %'s...
But, If you must...use it, just don't get caught up in overferting. wait until the plants show you they are lacking something. watch for the signs. good luck. you should look into some foxfarm soil
if you can afford it. It is pricy compared to other soil, but people who use it love it and grow get some real nice harvests...peace
