I'm a lover of all music, and I know that it's typical of a stoner to say Bob Marley, but honestly when you listen to his music, it's easy to tell that he put his soul into it. So my vote goes to Bob.

Gong(psychedelic/space rock).
Everytime I play them... I get the intense craving to start doing psychedelic drugs. No other sound has ever really given me that vibe before.

singer: janis joplin. just fucking amazing. the way she mixed rock n roll, soul, blues, folk.. everything man. a lot of people were suprised at the fact that a white person would and could sing the way that she did. ( i saw someone mentioning that in an interview and i was like yeah thats true). it would be sweet if she played guitar to some of her songs too (i kno she played like that harp thing and acustic guitar, but not really for her main songs).
band: pink floyd
mannn theres waaaaaaaaaaaay to many to pick just one though!
I can tell you who sucks.. britanny spears lol (even tho i admit i like some of her songs)

So many amazing musicians in this thread...
Devin Townsend is my favorite artist...Pink Floyd and Pantera are my favorite bands...but the best musician...I guess is down to opinion...probably someone I haven't heard.
neil young, not my favorite but i like him a lot and he is an amazing lyricist and musician probably the best songwriter i can think of at the moment

well i couldn't even come close to making a list like that, i would write down like 250 musicians, but i noticed everyone kinda stuck to rock musicians basically
how about guys like charlie parker, the duke, john coltrane, barney bigard, miles davis, oscar peterson, herbie hancock, louis armstrong, sonny rollins, monk, count basie, dizzy, and bill evans.
i could go on and on and have no idea who's the "best," they're all so different.
some rock n roll greats that i love i guess would be, jimmy page, keith richards, keith moon, hendrix, clapton, tim mahoney, john paul jones, goes on and on
then guys like ray charles, god dammit, i could just keep going, time to stop.
all those guys are just about untouchable.

Who, in your opinion, is the greatest band/artist from the past/present/future?
My avatar man. :)
But I also love Richie Blackmore of Deep Purple, Clapton, Jeff Hanneman, Cobain, Brad Nowell of Sublime, all kinds of shit, but Cobain first influenced me to play some angrier music, then I moved onto even heavier music, and that's where Dimebag came into play.
