I am smoking with a buddy of mine and we live in a pretty old house. The smell gets everywhere because my windows won't open. They are painted shut. The central air only has a blowing vent, no return air vent. So the only way it gets out of my room is through the door or the walls.
I'm thinking of hooking up an active carbon filter and maybe even a HEPC filter to a small but powerful fan. Will this work at all?
I light a strong scented candle as well. I dont need it to be absolutely smelless but at least it can't smell outside of my room.

Damn man, that's a really bad situation. The best advice would be for you to NOT smoke in your room. Go outside and find some woods or alley or something to smoke in.
But when I was hiding pot smell from my parents, I used to take a toilet paper roll, and stuff it full of Dryer sheets (like bounty and snuggles). Then after you take a hit, blow it through the toilet paper roll. The sheets will soak up most of the smell, and make the room smell like clean clothes.
Also spray some axe body spray or something. Should cover up most of the smell. And you should do your fan idea.

Windows stuck shut by paint is not something you should accept as circumstances that you just have work around. Get some paint remover, and get those windows open.
Filters, air cleaners, air ionizers do NOTHING unless air is moving through them (which doesn't happen a great deal under even the best circumstances). There is minimal air circulation in your house. Removing stale air is just as important as replacing it with fresh air. If you are renting, that's on your landlord. I would actually ask an AC guy about the system. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert, but there should be a VENT somewhere! Ya'll are going to get SICK if you don't do something about it.
Good luck.

To be quite honest, I think you really should open up your windows. That would really freak me out. What if a fire started or something like that? Anyway, now to talk about pot... :) Well, candles do work well to cover up smells. Axe and air purifiers work well... but have you tried incense?

If a fire started I'm sure you'd take your elbow or a fist and bust that motha fucka open!
Seriously, if a little glass window is what's going to keep you sealed in and get burned alive, you are a wimp!

^werd.
But why is it painted shut?
Sounds like a really shitty place to smoke if you're trying to hide it. You should just smoke outside.

Well I'm not trying to hide it. The people I live with know I smoke, they just don't want to smell it outside of my room for the entire rest of the day if I roll a blunt and smoke it in my room.

I actually like the smell of herb, I just have to hide it. At my old friends house we didn't have to hide it, and I used to love walking into his room the next day and smelling the sweet scent of a bake session the night before.

Here's what I'm going to do: I have a small fan I'm going to put a big peice of Active Carbon over and let it filter the smoke that lingers.
When smoking though I'm going to blow through a big tube I made out of a larger cylinder than a paper towel roll. It has about 10 layers. Every other layer is active carbon, then a thick layer of dryer sheets. We'll see how it works.
Also, scented candles and a can of oxium.
