My biggest piece of advice: Don't ask about it and contribute to the community.

I never asked to become a mod. Forums where I mod at, the admin or another mod approached me...based on my interactions with the community. Asking to become a mod is usually a sure fire way to not be considered. Most times, people who want to become mods end up on power-trips. The quiet, unassuming people usually make the best.

Just do your thing and if someone thinks you can help, they'll probably reach out. But asking, sucking up, etc. usually does not work in a quality community.

weird ... most people in these forums are unbelievably paranoid about LEO spying, and the rest want to be in the 'spotlight' as a Mod ... different strokes, I guess ... :smokin:

I get the impression, and it's totally my opinion, that there is a feeling that some great door will be opened by being a mod on a cannabis related forum. Personally, I've had great luck just staying out of the limelight.

Although, it can be fun to be a mod. All the boards I mod at are technical in some way (telecommunications, cellular, laptops, etc.). Some are very boring to mod at...you just watch the messages and ban people. The one I spend the most time at is a hoot. We usually have no less than 5000 users and visitors at any given time and it gets to rockin. Because the community is so large, we (moderators and admin) have a separate forum where we compare notes, talk strategy, and bad mouth users. We have our 'classics' thread where we post some of the more colorful messages that show up on the main forum.

Sometimes, it's a drag though. Two weekends ago, I had a user that was banned years ago come back with 3 different accounts!! I finally did an IP ban and he showed up later using IP's from wireless providers and a local college. So then we put him on 'global ignore'. So he comes back later that night using an open proxy. So now we have a list of known open proxies and the admin is in the process of adding those IPs to the ban list. Some of these people are WaCkEd!!!!!!

Usually the ones who become mods are the ones who can see so little, yet it explains it all.
i.e.

There are no Requirements.

Everyone is a Moderator.

That's how we got to be Mods...Reached out, helped. interacted appropriately with the Admin and Mod team...and I did volunteer...
Del, Zandor replied that I had been considered, told me it was just a matter of time. I continued my diligence in helping mentor hydro'newbs, and just waited for a few months...Then one day; I turned on the forums and I had different features from the day before. And, Oh Yeah,,,The "Secret Society" of pot mods across the world, sent me a membership card!!! LOL peace

But what about the horrible tests of human will? Or is that not discussed outside of mod club?

Actually, I have already posted these tests you speak of.

Have a good one!

The quest you seek is not an easy one. First you must walk blindfolded through the dungeon of snakes. Then your quest takes you to the cage of the lion where most reach their certain doom. IF you survive that it's off to the pit of no return where you face the masked madman.

Through these three dangers you will find 3 keys....the keys open the contents to three separate attache cases. Pick the right one, your a MOD, the wrong one may mean slavery in the pits of Cannabis hell to spin the server generator wheels for LIFE!!!:stoned:

Are you up for the challenge?..........BWAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!:D

Why would anyone even *want* to be a mod? Unpaid labor, a generally thankless task, take a lot of grief from assholes, blah blah. In fact, I better shut up now, because we need the mods and I don't want any of 'em quitting. ;)

yeah, but it wouldnt be a job for someone who enjoys getting grief from assholes and stuff like that...... hell if youre gonna be on here anyways why not make a positive difference for the good of the site...... not for a paycheck.......

btw, all the mods ive seen so far do a kick ass job......... you have my 2 thumbs up:thumbsup:

How are you meant to return from a pit with no return.
Thats a tricky one.

imnsho, the only reasons there should be a need for moderators are safety and information. in case a name or other personal info gets posted we need to clean it right away. it's a shame some people have to act the way they do and flame other members and lead them on with bogus stories straight out of their butts and that's what takes up most of our work time...babysitting.

and yeah, the easiest way to become a mod is not wanting it...or just ignoring it and go about your business helping others and staying out of the pissfests...and just being a lady or gentleman in general. turbo-posters and those trying to their force help with the 'i heard...' or ' i read this somewhere...' are probably the least likely ones to rise to the exalted position.

or by starting your own website!

If the "mods" start feeling too stressed out from watching all the forums everyday; maybe, they could appoint a watchdog, for each forum. Someone they trust.

Lol, that's all Billion needs...more encouragement. I think it's clear he, as well as others, want to be mods. I just don't see why? Maybe to hold the 'mod' title over us non-moderating members? <<< Even though I know that's not how Billion rolls, but for others, well, I just don't know. The mods we have now are superb. If we can add a few more outstanding mods to the team, so be it!

And that 'watchdog' idea doesn't sound half bad.

Just throwin' a few pennies into the pond. :twocents: ~

BTW...potential Mods are brought up all the time. It all depends on which part of the forum is in need. We have thrown about 6 names in the hat the last 2-3 months...Once the overlords decide...there will be a new look to your username and forum homepage...(added boards) peace

I just realized...the owners took out the ads between posts! Thank you, Sundance!

Wow, I hadn't noticed that- That is awesome. You only notice them BEING there, and how weird it made the threads feel.
This is much nicer.

Thank you!
