So about 2 months ago I got a reckless driving ticket.

I got a call from my friend who was in the neighborhood but was way too drunk to drive. I was like allright ill come pick you up. It was almost 1 in the morning and I got to where I had to pick him up. And we had to go down the street so my friend hoped on the hood of my car to have a little fun. I coasted down the street which wasnt any more then 20 MPH at the max.

We got down the street and I came up to a 3 way intersection with a stop sign on my end. And almost missed it till the last second. Instead of halting and probaly throwing my friend off the car I slowed 5 mph and just left off the brake and coasted through. It was friggin 1 in the mornin and in a subdivision.

Well apparently a cop was down a court on the other side that I guess saw me. He was looking for other kids breaking and entering cars and I guess thought it was us. I was driving and lookin in the mirror to see this cars headlights coming at me quite fast and then he turned his lights on. He was still quite far when he did so and I slowed. Before I knew it my friend fuckin took off!

This cop was PISSED! He ran up to my car told me to turn the car off and show my hands. He opened my door grabbed me and pulled me out, put me in handcuffs and searched me. He found nothin and put me in his cop car. He kept askin me why my friend ran I was like I WISH I FUCKING KNEW.

And as I was hitting my head in the back of his car before I knew it he was searching my car and found my pipe from the night before that I didnt bring inside. He's like oh wow I bet you didnt know about this either? I can impound your car and itll cost you 800$ to get it out blah blah blah.

Then he's like, I smell beer. I was like sir, I just picked up my drunk friend let alone ME drinking, give me a damn breathalyzer. So he did and was like Oh, well since you didnt lie to me ill let the Pipe go. But instead give you a reckless ticket.

So time went and 360$ for the fine thats fine, and a 2 month suspension on my license, fine. But now I got a letter today by 'Jennifer Granholm' Michigans mayor or whatever the fuck she is at the state capital stating I got to pay another 500$ in Driver Responsibility Fee's. Once for this month and another 500$ in a year. And she passed this law none but a year ago.

I dont fucking deserve this. First ticket ever, went to help out a friend, been working 75+ weekly hours the past 2-3 months and im only 18 god damn years old. Yea we were stupid and I let him ride on my hood but its not like I was going anywhere above 25 to endanger him. And wasnt even a major road at all!

Anyone else thats dealth with bullshit like this?

Wow that's bullshit. All that for helping out a drunk friend? It's a lot cheaper to just be an asshole and not help out friends.

Most states now have Driver Responsibility Charges a/k/a Insurance Surcharges. How each state administers them is different. If I remember correctly (in New Jersey), there are certain offenses that automatically hit you with 'Insurance Surcharges'....a set amount you pay every year for three years. At the same time, once you accumulate so many points, you also get hit with these charges and they increase every time thereafter when you get a ticket until your points drop below a certain level.

Now, here's the skinny....PAY THE CHARGES. In NJ, they allowed you to setup a monthly pay schedule, so you pay the charges off over an installment plan. If you don't pay the charges, initially, your license is suspended. So, if you get caught, you go down for not paying the surcharge and driving while suspended. If you continue to not pay, then NJ would have a civil judgement issued. This goes on your credit report and I belieev stays for like 7 years. It's a humongous black eye. Additionally, if you try to move out of state, most states are 'recipricol'. This means when you apply for a license in another state, they'll check your history in your previous state and deny you a license if you have outstanding charges. But wait boys and girls, it gets better... Let's say you pay the charges this year. Next year, you move to another state. Well, you're still on the hook in your original state for those charges. If you then fail to pay, the state you currently reside WILL suspend your license eevn though it's not them you owe money to.

Lesson learned (pick better friends)...just pay the charges off and be done with it.

Funny thing is DC cops got caught on Camera doing the exact same shit.
