new please help

ok. i figure its a little too late to start growing right now because the nights are starting to get chilly (i live in Ohio). but i plan on growing one plant next season just to see if i can do it and i wont have a lot of money to put into it so one plant is good for me. I will be growing outside in a pretty secure spot
on my back deck. i have some questions ..

1. Do plastic growing pots work ok?
2. What kind of potting soil works best?
3. How will i know if the seeds im planting will grow?(they are from a bag I bought.
4. How often will it need watered?
5. What kind of plant food/fertilizers should I use and how often?

I have looked a lot of places; here, books, other sites for these answers and i thought that maybe i could get some help first hand. any answers are greatly appreciated.

Well WeaponTheyFear,

1) Any type of pot will do the bigger the better.
2)That's still out for debate. Just get the best you afford.
3)Place about six or so seeds in a cup of water. The ones that break open can be planted in the pots.
4)About every three days.
