Hi there! I am a first time grower from Japan in need of some advice. Before i started, i have researched a lot in books, on the net and stuff, but i really need some one who has the know how to tell me if i am at least close to to what a growing set uo should look like!
It has been a month since my greenhouse seeds germinated, and i am worried they are not growing as they should. These week they really started to develop new leafs and stuff.
So, i will be waiting for a repply from you guys!
Thanks for your time!
Awesome, nice setup.
I'm not 100% convinced that you need those side lights on while they're that size, it must be very hot and humid under there. You would be better off with just the top light, which you have positioned perfectly by the looks of it.
They look a good size, they're not stretched and have good healthy leaves... I predict you'll get enough sticky to get Godzilla on the munchies my friend.

Brilliant!! Well, Very Good!! Like the other poster said, you don't really need the side lighting, it looks like it is just illuminating the sides of the pots. When the plants get a bit bigger tho it would be good as the side light should then hit the side of the foliage. If the temperature is above 20 and below 30 centigrade then thumbsup!

Thanks guys! After those coments, i feel a lot better! About the side lights, i will lowering my pots down a bit tomorrow. I guess i will try shuting them down for a while and see what happens. My biggest worry now is the temperature!!! I cant get it lower than 28-30 degrees guys! the humidity level is around 30-50% all the time. It is summer time here in tokyo for another 4 weeks, after that i can get the temperature around 25 i guess.
Anyway, i will try to upload some pictures whenever i can, so keep the coments coming guys!!!

yeah I would be interested to see how they come along as well. Good for a first grow... They might be a bit small for the age but that could be a heat issue as I had with mine. I know that plants like itaround 70-80 but they will still grow with a higher temp just slower and not as high of a yield... good luck

Hello again! Here are some other pics ive made today. What seens to be the problem with these babes??? As you can see on the pictures, some of the leafs are kind of dry??? burned??? overfeeding???
Besides that, should they be looking like these??? too much new foliage coming out???
Talk to you guys tomorrow!!!

About water, im watering the plants every 2-3 days, and once a week i put a little bit( 1ml per 2 liters of water)of Hyponex all purpose growth mix. Could that be the problem, since i have started with an enriched soil mix???
Ventilation!!! i normally leave the fan on all day long, is it on the right position???
To be honest it looks like your plants are sweating because of high temps, the condensation on the leaves is magnifying the light causing them to boil.
SpiritLevel
08-25-2006, 02:58 PM
I am finding it hard to diagnose. It isn't serious, YET! Because the leaves are quite chubby they resemble how my earlier grows looked. I had a 22L NFT hydro in a confined space with high temperatures in the 30s. The plants were transpiring lots of water and the grow space was like 70%+ humid. This gave us quite wide fingers on the leaves. Because of your high temperatures outside it might not be possible to reduce your grow room daylight temp to 25C. Bringing down the temp should bring down the humidity, a small closet extractor would be ideal for sending the stale air some place else. See how it goes and keep us posted.
Oh. If you can get your fan pointing on your plants causing the plant to move, this would help strengthen the stalk and branches early on and also move air/oxygen from around the leaves. What is the N-P-K ratio of your nutrients (it should be somewhere on the label)? What is the content of your enriched soil? How big are your pots? How long have they been vegging? When did you start to feed and are you using full dose of nutrient solution according to the guide on the label?

Lots of questions today!!! Thanks!!! Like to know that people are interested in what i am doing, ate least trying to!
As i am not a native english speaker, you guys give me some slack today, cause i just got from a friend a 5g ball of Pakistane Hash!!! So, if i dont make anysense, you guys know why!!!
Anyway, i will check the soil bag label later, i can say that it has some cow manure, bat guano, ....
The nutrient solution is 7-4-4 ratio. is that too much or too little???
Since im growing then no higher than 2,5 feet tall, im using 1,5 galons pots. i know, kind of small! but with a bigger pot i would sacrifice some growing space i think. How wrong am i? I will try once like these, and we will learn from there! Maybe what i will get is more than fine for me.
About the vegging period, i guess 5 or 6 days, thats when i noticed they were growing more and more new sets of leafs! Did i get it right on these subject??? In the past ten days i gave some nute to them 2 times, with the more diluted ratio that was on the label; 1ml per 2liters of water.
So, since my wife doesnt cook, i will excuse my self now, cause i have to cook lunch for us!
Take care and keep the messages coming!

Sorry, i forgot to say that i know about blowing some nice air on the plants, stronger stems and stuff. All the time the door closet is open with the fan blowing, plus the air cond. Is that ok??? about the temperature, its fucking hot in Japan at these time of year!!! But the humidit levels are 35-50 percent all the time. What do i learn from that???
Post you guys later with some new pics!!!

hands chopped off... doesnt that happen in the middle east? not the far east? meh anyways your plants look great.. i was thinking if your useing flouros how do you have a heat problem ? hmm also wouldnt having more light in there be more benificial for plant growth? thus leaving the sidelights in there would be better for the plant? anyways nice looking plants !! your doing a good job

what is your watering schedule? I water and wait for the soil to dry than water wait for the soil to dry then water with nutreuns.Till the plants are in the 3rd week or so.I feed them every 3rd watering bring up the nutrences
strength slowly.I live in a hot and humid state so I have an airconditioner vent in my grow closet. The temp is around 75*to 80* and the humdity is between 45% to 65%.I have two home made dark roon vents in the door and one vent has a 25 cfm fan on it to pull out the stale air.I have'nt had any mold or bug problems.I have a fan inside blowing a cross the plants too.
One other thing WHAT IS THE PH OF YOUR WATER&NUTRENCES when you water and feed them? I use distilled water , the water here is crap.

How soon can i start looking for plants sex???
Since i used feminized seeds, shoul i be concerned about sex at all??? could the temperature make these feminized seeds turn into male plants???
bud breath420
08-27-2006, 09:15 AM
your only concern would be hermies... and im sticking to what i said the flouros shouldnt make it hot enouf for anything to stress your girls... im not sure bout flowering your plants at that height you wont get much from them.. from your first pic you look like you have enouf room for them to get much bigger and produce more bud for you... id wait a bit longer before flowering
iarbaman
08-28-2006, 06:11 AM
Maybe ill let it vegetate another week or so! But at the moment im worried cause they are not growinh upwards, mostly sideways, with more and more new sets of leafs coming out! Is that normal??? Maybe too much heat??? I cant get it cooler than 30 degrees celsius!
These are some pics i have just made now!
Comments please!
Take care!
iarbaman
08-28-2006, 06:21 AM
Maybe some preflowers??? Guess not yet!
iarbaman
08-28-2006, 06:25 AM
I dont want to wait too much to start flowering, cause im afraid they wont have enough space to grow until harvest time. in total they have around 60 cm of free growing space! Is that enough?
bud breath420
08-28-2006, 06:56 AM
time to think about your situation.. if you only have 60 cm of grow space and your plants are not getting very tall.... then i think your safe to wait until they at least 20 cm tall that way even if they double theyre size when you flower them you will still have some clearace for more growth... if you flower them now your not likely to get very much bud at all.. just chill and let them do theyre thing...
iarbaman
08-28-2006, 07:37 AM
About the sex of the plants, i need to start flowering the plants so i can determine the sex or i can do that before flowering?
Could high temperature turn feminized seeds into male plants?
iarbaman
08-28-2006, 07:44 AM
Would those 2 little things there male pre-flowers??? female??? or just a new set of leafs coming out?
iarbaman
08-28-2006, 08:41 AM
It has been 4 weeks since the seeds sprouted! Too small for that age?
Maybe i shouldnt be smoking too much hash guys, i guess its making me a little bit too worried!
First time you know, sorry to be asking so much questions, but the books i have (by Jorge Cervantes) confuses me some times!!!
SpiritLevel
08-28-2006, 09:35 AM
I can't see any male signs on those... Males usually stretch taller than females in my experience, and your plants look rather short. That doen't mean they can't show their sex later on. I would veg to 20-30cm, you can train the stalk to grow sideways while vegging (b4 flower).
bud breath420
08-29-2006, 11:12 AM
hey keep us posted man... btw just chill with the plants you have a while before you should flower yet... dont stress over them too much they will be fine
If you cant get it below 30 I take it that it's going over 30 quite a bit?
That is quite hot, you need to drop the temp by 5c or so, maybe get a bigger fan in there?
They are quite squat, but thats prob. because they dont have to stretch at all to get the light which is a good thing. You could drop the plants a bit lower and they would grow taller.
Give it another 5 days or so and start flowering.
iarbaman
08-30-2006, 12:07 AM
Actually Khan, the average temp is around 31! The higher i got so far, was 33! The way the plants are doing, would it hurt them that much if i dont drop the temp to 25-28???
Later on today, new pics!!!

08-30-2006, 06:34 AM
Today ive lowered the plants a bit like you told me to! I guess im gonna start flowering these saturday. The space issue is always a concern for me! By the way, 6 cool tubes ( 20w - 6700k - 1450lms) plus 4 warm tubes (20w - 3000k - 1550lms) would be ok for flowering???
iarbaman
08-31-2006, 08:20 AM
3 of my plants are looking like these! any ideas on what could be causing it? could it be soil ph related? cause i havent bought yet a ph tester. im feeding the plants every 3-4 days with all purpose solution.
The affected plants are still growing healthly i guess, but how big of a problem could it become if i dont do anything.
iarbaman
08-31-2006, 08:33 AM
The water ph is around 6.5 - 7.0! Is that ok?
bud breath420
08-31-2006, 08:42 AM
you shouldnt have lowered the lights... thats only if you want them to stretch which you dont because you are growing in a semi-confined space... i would still wait for at last another week and a half or more if you can wait until flowering.. the more time they have in veg the more bud you will have man... they are your plants and its your call.. but chances are you will be disapointed in your end result unless you wait a little bit.. thinking about it i would wait another 3-4 weeks until flowering at their growth rate.. even if they were twice as big you will still have enouf room for flowering... about your problem maybe a nitrogen deficiancy im not sure... keep us posted
bud breath420
08-31-2006, 08:44 AM
your water ph sounds perfect
Looking at them they dont look like they've been lowered to much to me, they look in a fine position.
Your PH is fine, maybe too much nutes?
iarbaman
09-02-2006, 11:26 AM
Some pics i took today!
By the way, i bought a ph meter, and the soil ph is around 6.5-7.0. Guess no need to worry there!

id just let those puppies grow it does take time as you can only rush a plants growth so much.. which you seem to have it covered,, remember to start with fairly dilluted feed and gradually make it richer as the plant becomes bigger and gets use to the feed.. (depend on what food that is)

Dude, I've read your other post, and you probably don't have enough space to finish flowering them. You only have 60cm total height? Might work but you'll need to flower quickly. Calm down, you are worrying like a freak. Remember, that a plant may double in size during flowering, so that needs to be taken into consideration. The earlier you flower in relation to plant size, the smaller the yield. Oh and also, it's too difficult to tell male or female unless- 1: you flower. 2: you veg long enough for the plant to show either horns/balls(male) at the nodes or a couple white hairs(females) reaching out. Peace.

Maybe ive waited a little too long to flower my plants, but i guess its too late now! lets see how it goes.
The total growing space is around 65cm plus 25cm from the pot! Anytihng i can do to avoid them growing that much???
If they grow bigger then the box, could i put the plants outside for 12 hours of natural day light and put them back inside my house for the dark period???
Thanks for the tips guys!!!

That would work, but they may not get enough lumens from outside light so you will have a smaller harvest.
iarbaman
09-05-2006, 08:37 AM
Hey Khan, do you think by looking at my setup, that i will run out of growing space by harvest time???
bud breath420
09-05-2006, 09:18 AM
not enough lumens outside? that doesnt click for me.. i dont know much about lumens but wouldnt the sun put out more light than all of his lights put together... not having a go at you khan.. but uhh do you know what i mean?
(baked my bad if im not making sense)
delta9thc06
09-05-2006, 11:54 AM
Thats funny, if u put it outside in a place that gets good sun it will do just fine. Its no need to worry about not a sufficient amount of light coming off of the sun. For christ's sakes its the SUN. Anyway you should top your plant so that it will stop growing right were u top it but the side colas could still grow taller but u can tie them down so in that case u can veg until the height that is desired.
iarbaman
09-06-2006, 12:26 AM
But if i top the plants, wouldnt they put an effort towards growing back the prtion i toped, instead of growing flowers???
delta9thc06
09-06-2006, 02:07 AM
Not really cause if that were the case then nobody would top there plants, and then after u top the plant the side branches will start to reach up to get to the light and u could tie them down and then instead of 1 big kola ull have 4 good size kolas.

Sorry, not much going on lately, besides my babes getting bigger! Now, im at the second week of flowering, today i saw the first signs of sex, a couple o tiny white hairs here and there, too small to get a picture yet.
About the growing space, what could i do besides taking them outside, since i have already started flowering???
Take care you guys!!!
bud breath420
09-11-2006, 08:55 AM
I guess besides putting them outside you could take the top off your rig and hang those top lights from the roof or put something there to hold them above your plants.. that way they can be raised and if your plants grow out of it your safe to let them get as tall as they want... By the way they are looking great good job

The past couple of days have been realy exciting. They started showing the white hairs, female signs for sure! At the moment i can see those on the top of the main branch. I guess they will start growing on the other branches soon.
About the space factor, i think i have another 10 days before i need to do something about it! Guess ill change the ligthing support a little.
The fan i just moved so i could took the pics. Normally they are blowing direct on the plants since the veg. period. By the way, too much wind wont harm the plants, will it? Should i leave the fans going all day???
It has been 10 days since i started flowering, every 5 days i feed the plants with a 4-6-6 mix. is that alright?
Thanks guys, and lets see how it goes from now on!

I just have a few questions for you if you don't mind. Firstly, what strain are they? I've read the entire thread but it doesn't seem to say. Also, what height are they right now? And finally, what size pots are they in right in? Anyway, enjoy the fruits of your labour.

The strain is "The Church" from GreenHouse Seeds! Its a mix between Skunk, Super Skunk, Swiss Sativa and Brazilian. Im using 10 20w fluo tubes plus 2 50w compact fluos for helping with th flowering. The pots are 3.7lts, i guess it wasnt that small, turned out quite nice. They are around 80cm now, but when i started flowering, they were 25-30cm i would say. For nute, im using some Rose blooming mix, the name is Hyponex. dont know if its a japan only kind of brand, but thats the name. Ive killed one of my 5 babes these saturday, if you have opportunity to make US$ 40 a gram sale, even if they are no quite ready, i guess i would say that i want to get what ive invested.
Anyway, there is a pic from these plant that ive harvested.
In 10 days time, well have the big harvest, so, keeo login in and check the final score!
