I am planning on growing between 2 to 4 plants and am on a tight budget and not wanting to much of a spike in my power bill. So with that said what floresent bulbs do I need to get. I am under the impression cool white for vegging and the Kitchen and Bath tubes for flowering. I was planning on having serveral above and also down the side of the plants. I know that HPS are ideal but for the first time and lack of cash I want to go with floresent. How many floresents per plant do I need? All suggestions and tips are great. Thanks

Cool for veg, warm for flower. Aim for at least a couple of bulbs per plant, and get at least 30-watt or, better, 42-watt CFLs. WalMart has them, generally (unless some other grower has bought them out, heh). And yes, HPS is better for flowering, but if you can get a couple CFLs on each plant you'll do okay. Good luck! ;)

I'd recommend 4 27W DAYLIGHT flourscent lights from Philips. They're just as cheap as if you were to buy it at Walmart and provide light in a decent spectrum. 42W bulbs are usually 'warm' within the 3000k range. Therefore, there only good for flowering.
The cost per month of a 27W bulb is $2.50 used 18/7, so you won't raise any eyebrows. Just a tip, if you ever move into a new house and plan to grow, immediately use a ton of electricity. Run useless appliances and whatnot to raise the bill to a certain level. Then we you begin to grow, turn them off and turn your lights on. No raise in electricity use :)

Thanks alot for the information. If I had more money to invest I would for sure get the HPS but due to money being a endagered spices around here I have no choice but to go with floresents. But if this goes well and I can round up the cash I would love to do it again with the HPS.

there was a poster on here asking $120 for 250W for the entire setup with both bulbs.
Keep in mind, that the 42W at WalMart is warm for flowering. It must indicate the color temperature for veg 6500k. I just picked up the sprial types at WalMart. They are cool and good for vegging. The cool bulbs are in blue packaging, the others are warm for flowering.

I have 2 females since late May. I vegged em with dayligh tubes (4x18w) and then removed 2 daylight tubes, replaced with 2.18w warm whites and i added 2x24w and 1x25w warm white cfls. They did the job real nice check out my oldest plant http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=79557

buy a 400watt hps... worry about your bill if u are running x4 1000watt lights 24/7. a 400watt ran 24/7 will raise your bill maybe 30$ @ .9 cents

she doesn't have a over 100 buckets to spend on lighting, Go for some 5.97 10" reflector clamp on fixtures at Home Depot and the biggest CFL you can find. Amazing things are being done with CFL's. And your right cool white for veg. and kitchen bath for flowering. Also if you have the old style flouro fixtures around, get some ego gro bulbs that are purple colored they emit both red and blue waves. But basically the more CFL's you can get. I have 12 CFL's plus 4 dual 48" flouro fixtures plus a 125w Metal Halide and a UV-B sunlamp bulb. Works wonders. Also the 'lamp reading light' 42w CFL thats long and has 'U' shaped glass is the best flowering CFL avaliable at walmart home depot, etc.
