When does the plant grow?

Does it do its growing when its in the light or in the dark? does it do it during both. I know its a dumb question, but im just curious, thanks guys!

the plant requires light for photosynthesis, during its flowering time, hormones cause by the dark period trigger the flowering. u want at least 18 hours of light on for vegging, after that when determined u switch over to something like 12 on 12 off and trigger flowering.
