My hobbies include chemistry, biology, phyiscs, and basically all forms of science, but since lab equippment is so hard to get a hold I also have a hobby of computers and technology and love building computer and programming  (I'm not a very good programmer). Anyway here's a few pictures of my computer I recently built.

Also, here's a coupple pictures of my desktop. It varies greatly depending on my mood. If you can't tell I am running the Linux OS, if anyone has ever heard of it. It's a good chance that the server on which Cannabis.com is running on is currently tunning linux.

Untill it gets hot and the bag goes up in flames.
I was in to hot swamping and soft modding xboxs with pc Ide cables. And just have a burnt copy of Krazys mod. Ahh the good old days.

I became a Linux convert when I was like 14. I only run Red Hat Linux on my computer now. It never ever crashes, ever. Linux and UNIX OS are as stable as a rock. Yeah so what, I like to read up on my Linux hacking (Eric S. Raymond and Richard Stallman are idols of mine)...

Your desk top is much nicer than mine. I usually don't care to make it fancy and to customize it.

A fellow Linux Junkie :) . The distro I am running right now is Fedora Core 5, which is based off Red Hat Enterprise of course. I have tried just about everything: SUSE, Gentoo, Mandriva, and Debian. Fedora just fits my needs nicely. And I love to have some eye candy on my desktop so I can tell all my friends "See, look how much nicer Linux is". Linux really is rock stable though. Going to start a server on it soon and start my own forums.

anyone know if an FM modulator ( like whats used to link ipods to hi-fi)can be adapted to stream audio to my hi-fi in the room next door?

i dont want to run cables, and dont want the expence/hastle of a wireless network...and i really wanna use my pc as a jukebox, cos ive built up a ridiculously huge archive of mp3's...ive got quite a good hi-fi set up, and it seems kinda wasted by not hooking it up to the computer.

Hmm, I am not entire sure. It would probably require some sort of mod but I am sure it could be done with some thought.

Here check out this forum:

cheers for that, ill check it out.

ive seen modulators that are used in cars with no cd player to link a cd multi changer up to the stereo, im sure i could hook one of those up to a modified line-out cable from the sound card.....

hmmmmm.... ( strokes chin repeatedly ) lol

Handsome 'computer geek' here, LOL! Everyone calls me a computer geek but I'm far from it. I just happen to be knowledgable. Anywayyyyy..............

Currently, I'm all laptops. I travel alot for work and have always lived in apartments so laptops make sense:

Ascentia M series, IBM ThinkPad 760XL, Vaio PCG-XV500, Vaio NVR-190, Vaio v505, Toshiba Libretto L5W (reloaded with linux), and a Fujitsu P7010D (dual boot, Windows XP/Fedora Core 4).

Here's a sample of what I carry around everyday for work:

The Fujitsu and Toshiba are always with me. I think they weigh a total of 5 lbs, combined!

I'm a total PC geek, here's my specs to my newest custom build;

AMD Athlon 64 3800+
Antec 550W PSU
eVGA Geforce 7800GT
1GB Corsair Valueselect RAM
250GB WD HDD
ASUS A8N-SLI mobo

It's also in a really nice Aspire case, i'll take pics when I get my camera back (a friend has it). I use Windows XP on this one... I used to use Kubuntu Linux, but I didn't like it much.

I wanted a 7800GT. Put two of them bitches in SLI. It's rediculous things they have now like the 7900GTX EXtreme which you can buy four of to make Quad-SLI. Who does that shit? People with too much money.

SLI or crossfire for that matter is just a white elephant.
its just the different graphix companies showing what they can do with limited tech.

no one is dumb enough to buy that stuff unless they got lots of money and dont know what they are talking about.

sats show that the mother board and CPU gets bottle necks of info, and thats what slows the system down (with a high-end graphics card).

its silly buying 2 x SLI 7900's when theres directx 10 just around the corner.

all the above stuff hasnt got any progs to take advantage of the tech anyway.

Hello hello.

Unfortunatly, my enermax Liberty is a POS PSU and fizzled my BFG 7800 GTX OC 256 PCI-e :( so im left with an awesome rig, and no vid card lol.

Specs:

AMD FX-60 skt 939
Asus A8N32-SLI DX
4 Gig of OCZ Platinum EL ram
3 Raptor 10K RPM 74.4 Gig HDD's + 1 more Raptor leftover * need a RAID card *
1 250 Gig HDD * my media disc *
7.1 Surround Sound creative Audigy 2zs platinum * not platinum pro *
ATI tv tuner card
Soon to be an XFX Nvidia Geforce 7900GTX 512MB PCI-E Video Card, and then eventually SLI of the card.

Now for the "cool"parts.
Vapochill A/C phase change CPU cooling "-50 celcious"
Thermaltake Armour Full Tower case black w/ acrylic door.
5 Fans on the inside of the case.
Thermaltake 680watt PSU * my old good PSU *
dvd-rw burner
cd-rw burner
cd-rom drive
Aerocool CoolWatch fan controller / LCD Display / 20-in-1 Card Reader - Black

OC'ing:
VId Card: As far as it will go... simple enough
CPU: somewhere in the 3ghz range. will have to make some time to OC it.

I dont think ive missed anything

I used to build my own, but got lazy the last few years.

We have two computers. The first, and oldest, is a Dell XPS Gen4, 3.6 ghz single core P4, with 650 gigs of internal HDs, and 900 gigs of external HDs, an ATI 850XT video card, decent Creative sound card (whatever preceded the XFis), TV tuner, 2 gigs of memory, DVD-ROM and a DVR writer, two sets of keyboards and mice (wired and wireless), with a 19" monitor, and also connected to a 32" LCD TV, with the sound run through a 5.1 700-watt Pioneer stereo. Also connected to a Roland RS-70 synthesizer. This is the machine I usually use.

The other is a Gateway dual-core (not Core 2 Duo though), 3.4 ghz, 2 gigs of ram, an ATI X1900 video card, a 20" widescreen monitor, TV card, SoundBlaster XFi, wired mouse and keyboard, 500 gigs of internal HD, 300 gigs external. (For a total of 2350 gigs, or 2.35 terabytes, spread across both machines.) This is the machine the woman usually uses.

Nice desktop somethingfunny, I really like it.

I just recently bought a dual-core Gateway aswell. 1Gig ram....Radeon X1900 pci express, I was aiming for a cheap nice pc to upgrade from my shitty outdated dell so I could play World Of warcraft and download stuff with better capabilities. :)

Cheers

I too build computers now and again. First was a 486 DX4-100, who remembers them? Then a 1100 Duron (red hat), then a 1300 Duron (SuSE), one or two for other peeps, then a P4 3.2Ghz (dual boot winshit and SuSE) (probly the best machine I've had but sold to an old dealer to finish off his shyt studio); lastly a 2400 Sempron (winshyt) which is shyt compared to the P4.

Currently using a cheap ass system;
2400+ Sempron (1.65Ghz or something)
256MB RAM
Asus cheap motherboard
GeForce 5200 128MB graphics
2 * Pioneer DVR-110
120GB, 80GB and 20GB HDDs
HDD & Bay coolers

Gee, such a crappy cheap machine.. I want my P4 back!!!!!
