View Full Version : Finally, a semi-honest anti-drug commercial

I just saw a commercial on tv that was actually honest, for the most part! It starts out with a guy saying "I smoked weed the other day, and nobody died. I didn't get in a car accident, I didn't shoot anybody, (ect..). What I did do was sit on Pete's couch for an hour, you have a better chance of dieing out in the real world. Me personally I'll take my chances, call me reckless."
Though I did forget many lines in the part after "car accident" i still got the main idea out. I am happy they finallly discuss that it won't kill you, but I know when I get high I do have days where I sit on a couch, but I like to go out and do things high too. What do you guys think? Have you seen it?

I saw that one, and it caught my eye for the exact same reason you mentioned. When I first heard, "no one died, got hurt" I perked up and was like woah! The commercial kind of got to me though, the kids just vegging out on the couch like that since that's what I do sometimes. I kind of questioned myself for a bit, then I packed a bowl, got blitzed, and forgot all about that commercial. :rasta:

it says they sat on petes couch for 11 hours not one.... the commercial is telling kids if they smoke pot they will not be able to move for the whole day which is bullshit

Good, it's time attitudes started changing and getting the truth out there is the first step. A while back I was actually amazed to hear a radio commercial for a hydroponics shop. It went something like this:
Dad: "Son, we need to have a talk about what I found in your closet"
Son: " Umm, Dad...um..it's not mine...let me explain"
Dad: "You better explain. What were you thinking? I just can't beleive you'd do something like this"
Son: "But Dad, it's just one little plant"
Dad:" And little is all it's ever going to be with that set up you have. A little flourescent light and dirt from the back yard. Those yellow leaves just make me sick. You need to get yourself down to South Bay Hydroponics. They have everything you need for a quaility indoor garden"
Son: "Gee, thanks for setting me straight Dad"
I was fucking amazed to hear that commercial. Ok, it was the classic rock station and this is the San Francisco area, so maybe I shouldn't be too surpised. But still it was pretty wild to hear an ad for weed growing supplies. Anyhow, I saw it as a sign. A sign that attitudes are starting to change enough so that something like that would be broadcast to the general population. It's the start of the de-demonizing of weed that is needed before we can ever think of legalization.

Yeahh, I seen that, and I was like "HOLY CRAP!". Reminded me of the southpark episode, where they basically said "weed won't make you do anything bad or stupid, it will just make you feel good and be okay with being bored, and instead of being okay with being bored you should be learning a skill or something that will help you" or something of that sort.
The commercial isn't perfect, ofcourse its still anti-drug, but its a step in the right direction. The direction of getting high, or something.
there was a commercial like that a while back that went "my brother smoked pot, but he didn't do this, and he didn't do that, infact , he never did anything at all". it was funny because they went against everything they were saying in the first place.

I haven't seen that commercial, but I did see this one where they were trying to imply not to do something because your friends are doing it. Then the say if your friends told you to put your fist in your mouth would you do that too? It was just funny to me because you actuallly see a guy with his entire fist up in there... I wonder how he got that out?

Lol I think of that crappy singer fantasia or w\e that won that season of american idol a while back.. Her mouth is SO FUCKING HUGE!!! it takes up like half of her fucking face.
Anyways, thats what that one commericial gets me thinking of.. ^^^
Sitting on a couch all day has nothing to do with weed. It's how we ALL relax, the weed just makes it better.

Hah, I just wrote about that commercial for my TV production class. The question was "What's your favorite TV ad and why", and I wrote "The above the influence commercial where they sit on Pete's couch; it's funny cause it's true."
i still dont like that ad.... it says some truth but it still says ur a stupid person if u smoke and u wont ever have a girlfriend... it still has lies like if u smoke ur not going to go anywhere or live life or w.e

That commercial continues to say "I missed out on a date with a pretty girl because I got high and sat on Pete's couch" and shit like that.
I get the pretty girl high then go on a date with her!

I saw that comercial too, I guess it is an improvement, but it is still Anti-marijuana, so I don't like it.

The first half is right.
They should take out the couch part.
add in I did some ultra deep thinking and progressed wholey as a human.
Then add that the movie he saw and the ice skateing were more fun than ever.

You can find the ads here:

Click on the red sticker thing and watch that video, then tell them what you think! Lets show them calm, intelligent, and rational responses that expose their stereotypes. Maybe they will even post one of our messages lol.

I'm in Ottawa, Canada, and the pot related comercials are more like, "Don't Smoke and Drive" comercials. Rather than trying to tell people not to smoke, they just tell them not to drive when they smoke. Another reason I love Canada.
One shows these two guys just sitting in this bedroom and all you hear is this Jamaican accent voice going, "What do you think you're going to do? Smoking pot and thinking you can drive? Stupid!" Or something like that, and then the best part, it shows where the voice is coming from, and it turns out to be a tribal mask on the wall talking to them.:p
Another shows a picture talking to a guy as he reaches for his keys telling him, "You're way too high my friend, way too high."
Rather than trying to be all serious, they mix in some humor to get the message across. The message being don't drive after smoking, not don't smoke.

I just watched those above the influence videos.
HOLY SHIT our comercials are nothing like that!!! That's typical U.S. propaganda for you.
um, i just wanted to say my favorite one was where this guy is like practicing talking to his daughter over and over, then it shows him just barge into her room where there is this white rug, then he lays down and grabs it and rolls over 2x. IT zooms out and he wiggles wrapped up in it and is like"look, im a joint!" and then the narator says "there is no wrong way to talk to your kids about drugs...call so-and-so for help teaching your kid about drugs blahblahblahetc".
I wish i was high when i saw it, but i did do it at one of my friends houses when we were high, with his rug.
"LOOK! I'M A JOINT!"
