It seems most of the weed in this state has evaporated.:( I have found someone who claims to have some, located about 25 miles from me. He is willing to drive to my town to meet somewhere and sell to me, but I'm a little uncomfortable buying from a stranger. If it was a cop...would it be legal for them to drive to the next town to do business? Would they be out of their jurisdiction?

No.
Gone are the days that literally bandits could literally escape by fleeing into another state. Law enforcement now cooperates and closed those jurisdiction loopholes.
However, I wouldn't worry about this stranger being a cop.

I know you can't hide from the cops on the grounds of jurisdiction...but once you go into another town, they would have to call a cop from that town to arrest anyone, right?
The reason I'm uncomfortable is because this guy posted an ad on craigslist looking for customers, but I don't think the cops would bother coming to another town just to give me a ticket for half an oz...

There has only been 1 bust on a craigslist. A dealer posted his phone number and advertised meth, coke, and weed. Undercover cops purchased from him 3 times before they made an arrest. I think the only reason the cops got involved is because someone complained or someone snitched on him.
Most of the dealing goes on in "men seeking men". The police are not going to do reverse stings to target homosexual weed smokers. Not only is it politically unpopular but law enforcement is much more concerned with fighting online rx diversion (online pharmacies). Selling on craigslist is risky though.
Read this article (it's about selling weed on criagslist): http://www.arbiteronline.com/media/storage/paper890/news/2006/08/16/Biztech/Craigslist.Provides.A.Market.For.Pot.Peddlers-2220793.shtml?norewrite200608202336&sourcedomain=www.arbiteronline.com
I'd be more concered about getting ripped off. If someone is going to drive 25 miles to deliver you are either buying a lot or he is planning on ripping you off, or maybe, just maybe he is being really nice.
Where are you at if you don't mind my asking?

How do you know this? A few weeks ago I saw a teaser on the local news about somebody getting arrested for drugs from the local craigslist, but I forgot to stick around for the whole story. (I was stoned:D ) I agree that it would be ridiculous for cops to set up a sting like this; however, I know they do set up crosswalk and seatbelt stings, so clearly they have alot of free time and don't mind if everybody thinks they're assholes.
I think the reason he agreed to come meet me is because he wants me to be a return customer. I'm on the west coast...that's all I'll say.:p

Yes, it’s entrapment if someone says “Do you want to buy marijuana from me for $20?” but then again most hookers don’t just walk up to you and ask you if you want to fuck them for $20. You can still advertise without asking.
Why is he not making you come to him? Is this a dealer or just some dude hooking you up?

entrapment is extremely specific. all it means is that law enforcement can not "creat the opportunity" for u to commit a crime. this definately qualifies i would think.
i'd try to meet him in a semi-public place and never give him a way to ID u. (dont drive ur own car, or if u do, park far away, etc) if shit goes bad, run like hell.

They cant arrest you in another jurisdicton, BUT, they can detain you in another jurisdiction until cop from said Jurisdiction shows up. A Few cities in the US have rules set against police that prevent them from chasing into another jurisdiction, Detroit is like that. Detriot did it because people were saying Police werent chasing Whites into other counties, but would chase a black guy until the chase stopped.

Apparently you've never seen an episode of cops.
In those episodes, those people go down to a spot where it's known to buy drugs. They're soliciating.
You aren't.

Well, the ad on craigslist didn't exactly say "weed for sale". So far neither one of us has used any word used to describe pot...hell, he could be selling me half an ounce of goat cheese for all I know.:D
Why is he not making you come to him?
Because I told him I wasn't going to drive that far.;)

First off thats the number one urban myth that cops can't solicate you to buy illegal contriban, its total bullshit. I've heard of so many people getting busted this way, the can and do all the time. And yes, I've even seen it done on the show 'cops'. Basically theres no such thing as entrapment when it comes to drugs. I bet the person that said that also things that if you ask someone if they're an undercover cop they have to tell you yes. HAHAHA, what a joke. And second, thats some bunk looking weed you got, doesn't look like a half ounce to me either. How much did you pay? I guess its better than nothing though. Happy Tokes.

1st off cops can do whatever they want period... if u get busted with the weed he sells u , u are busted no matter how u got it from him. its your word vs his and we know who will win in court. just dont buy from some random person who isnt your friend.. or u are asking to get popped, is it rly worth it... nope... I know this shit from 1st hand experience dealing with cops.

Do you realize how much time and money that would have to go into this if cops were to start busting online drug dealers full time????!!!!!
Do you realize how much cash they make off of every drug dealer they arrest? Alot more than they pay the cops who arrest them! Between "drug money", confiscated vehicles, houses, whatever, they just won big!
There have been several recent busts after cops browsed through someone's myspace page and found something illegal. For a cop to post drugs for sale is a different matter, but it proves they do have, and use, the internet to bust people. Dirty bastards.
In the area where I live there is very little crime and alot of rich people to pay taxes...so we have a LOT of really bored cops. I won't even drive through town after 10:00 PM anymore because there are so many cops around and none of them have anything to do but harrass the general public...

I'd be more afraid of being robbed than being busted if I met a dealer through that craiglist. Cops generally are not into the technological age yet when it comes to drug dealing. They're just too dumb and it would cost way too much money to educate them. ...
it's not the police driving the cruiser around, pulling you over for speeding that does online stings. it is most always a DETECTIVE, or a task force. trust me, if the police wanna find something out online, all they have to do is hire the right people who know what they are doing. you think they're stupid?
