It seems like there's been some confusion lately about how to deal with moderators. Clearing it up so that no unfortunate bans occur without reason.
1. Don't talk back to them. They know exactly what they are talking about, and have the strongest convictions in the world that you will not be able to change.
2. Don't try to change their point of view. Ever.
3. Never, ever, ever talk bad about a moderator, even if it's in the feedback and suggestions forum. They don't care. They don't want to improve. See #1.
4. Always respect every descision that they make, because we all know that they are correct with every assumption that they make towards how they construe every post made by everyone.
5. Moderators do not care if you are enjoying your time on this website or not. They are not here to make cannabis.com a more enjoyable place. They are here to help Sundance. and other owners of this site make money, and to cover their own asses from lawsuits.
6. If you don't like it, then you can leave. You didn't pay to be here (and even if you did, they really couldn't care less).
7. Your opinions on how this website should be run, ideas for new forums, etc. do not matter to moderators in the slightest.
8. To continue posting here, you must love every action that every moderator does. Or you can go to baked.com.
Oddly enough, I can't even tell if I'm being a smartass or being serious.

I guess some people have more probs with the mods than I do. I've never had an iota of any problem with any of them. That probably has to do with the fact that I expect what goes around to come around, and generally treat people with the same amount of respect that I'd like myself. Most, if not all, of the people I've seen banned looked like they had it coming. Karma's a beotch when you're on the receiving end of the bad variety.

Let me try this game once:
1) Sundance bought the site and has made some vast improvements but it's my right to bitch about everything else that I feel is wrong. Who does he think he is to dictate rules in a site that he purchased!!!
2) Sales/Hook-ups not allowed? It's my right to discuss illegal items like this on an open forum. THEN when the shit blows up in my face it'll be my right to spend useless space bitching about scammers.
3) MODS here volunteer their time for the so called good of the forum but it's my right to make their stay in here hell. After all, they're all just on power trips and not really fellow members.
4) Who cares about other members in the community....it's my right to bitch about nothing and everything. Screw their mood!
5) Racism and degrading women.......My right as a future virgin of the KKK.
6) This may be a cannibis forum but by god I come here to talk about my acid trip and NOBODY will stop me.
7) It's my right to flame anyone and everyone I feel. Who gives a crap about the other members.....MY rights come first!
8) If a MOD gets in your way regarding ANY issue.....refer to number 3.
Have a good one!

It'd be funny if it wasn't so depressingly accurate.
Really...just use common sense and you won't get banned! It's not brain surgery...if there is a thread where I know I'm going to argue w/ someone I just don't go there...I just move on!

As a moderator elsewhere and having been moderated at various points in my life, let's try it this way:
The correct way to deal with a moderator is to respectfully voice your concerns and make your points without:
1. Cursing
2. Insulting
3. YELLING
4. Accusing
5. General foolishness
A moderator sprimary function is to moderate, as in control the flow. In general (b/c every forum is different), they are not babysitters, psychologists, referees, or punching bags.
Forums in general are PRIVATE. You may have public access, but the rules governing them are subject to what the administration feels is right. You may agree, you may disagree. HOWEVER, once you agree to join and click on the TOS, you have agreed to ABIDE by the rules set forth.
Over the last few weeks, the juvenile foolishness has pissed me off to no end! People express their views disrespectfully, get banned, and then want to complain about the moderator that banned them. Maybe if you showed some damn respect and courtesy to begin with, you'd fuckin get some in return.
I had my own recent issue with a moderated action. I respectfully asked my question and got a respectful answer back. I respectfully posted my opinion on the general situation, and I got respectful replies back. It's not that fuckin hard people!
Good to see ya Big C!!!! :) :)

Well, I have had my own differences with moderators as well. Altho the end result was one of respect on both sides, over the course of the discussion that wasnt always the case.
I also think its more difficult than one might realize to uphold 1-5 when number 5 covers so much ground. It reminds of the catch 22 charge from the UCMJ, disorderly conduct.
Just my 2 cents Cal, other than number 5 being so general, I think you right on man.
I hope Platy didnt get banned for this thread tho, if he did, I think it would be proveing his point.
Peace.

Yeah, #5 is general but I think Plats posts also speaks to number 5. He, admittedly, was being a smartass. I know when I have my users send me smart ass remarks like that, I don't even bother to read the message. If anything, I ban them longer or permanently. It's not so much what you say, strictly my opinion, but how you say it.
Unless something is so blatantly wrong, I've always tried to avoid 'confrontational' messages and instead, try to leave it open for conversation. I've even been moderated by prepubuscent (sp) 13 yr olds on a video game forum who had no clue what they were doing...and I was PISSED. But, understanding the other side, I iniated a conversation and a mutual understanding was met.
Believe me, I feel the pain from both sides. I know what it's like to enforce rules or policies that you may not agree with, and I know what's its like to be a victim as a end user. In the end, I've found the most success with the old adage that you catch more bees with honey.
It's also very similar to my work motto: You may live in a democracy, you don't work in one. Yeah...my subbordinates used to love when I pulled that one on them! LOL!!!

He was banned for posting this thread.. and then turning around and making an "immature assholes" comment on a thread that hasn't been commented on for 12 days.
Completely uncalled for. And just plain rude...
what was the point?
Platypus obviously had a chip on his shoulder when he logged in this morning and probably should not have been posting here. This isn't a place to take your anger out on random people or authority.
I guess you could say it falls under Cal's #5. of general foolishness.
I hope Platypus can rationalize this and leave it be when he returns.
We don't look for reasons to ban you and we promote freedom of speech. You have to use a level tactfullness and even though that level is not very high at all, some people (kids generally) have a serious problem with being considerate of other people. Simply don't make it a point to call people Assholes, faggots, white trash or degrade the opposite sex you'll get along with just about everyone.
Now if you choose to not get along with someone, and feel strongly opinionated about their personality..bringing it up on the boards is not the thing to do. Contact a mod privately and put that member on ignore if you have a a hard time talking with them. Thankfully people are something in life that if you ignore, will more than likely go away.

i think the reason so many people complain is because they just preferred the site when it was run by ron it was just alot more relaxed.
And i think this site has got actually worse under the new ownership there have been so much more errors on this site and alot more bans, deleted threads etc. Plus people are actualy scared to challenge the new mods because of the threat of being banned.
You can't just say well if you don't like it you can fuck off because people who post on this site rely on this site as a place to learn how to grow and to talk and share opinions with other like minded people. before the new ownership this was the best place to go for all that and its hard for people to let go of that fact and just standbye and watch the site they once knew go to shit. But whatever who cares i know this site will never be the same again so this is the last time i'm going to complain.
Well all I can say to that is that you don't know the whole story. Nor will you ever. There is much that goes on behind closed doors that is by no means any business of the general public..and hardly even the mods business.
We say that if you don't like it here you can leave.. we say that as an option made BY YOU. If you do not like this place so much I really don't see why you would come here..
I don't like to see gore and death images so i stay away from those sites. The statement by no means is a threat and nobody should be "in fear" of the moderators. This isn't rocket science.. it's called being able to be apart of a community without being a troll.

I used to enjoy the flame sessions in every other thread also.....VERY relaxing!

Due to a change in the rules there have been more bans. After all, just because Sundance is the new owner heaven forbid that he has the right to run it in his own manner...right?
But as far as the "challenge" issue. Why do you feel the need? In the past, you know, the good ol' Ron days....when del told me to back off or else I was smart enough to back off....so what has changed? Del would bounce your tail out the door just as quick as some of the "new" mods.
This REALLY gets me! "rely on this site as a place to learn how to grow and to talk and share opinions with other like minded people"....if that were the case there would be NO hassle from a MOD and definately no reason for a ban.
Have a good one!

This kills me...when I came to this site, it was to learn...That had nothing to do with questioning the siteowners or the Mods...In fact I never once challenged a Mod due to the fact that I was raised to respect my peers. a lot of the discidents here a Cdot, just stir shit...
I wanted to learn to grow pot...If you are claiming thatr is what you need from this site, and you are complaining along the lines in this thread, then you are full'o'crap, you are in the wrong forum, because the cultivation forums are down the street.
By the way...there are no good forums I know of that tolerate attacks on their Mods; Period...In fact most good sites would ban you forever for 1/2 the crap pulled here on a daily basis...
The 1 point I agreed with was; If you don't like it here leave. I come to here to learn about cultivation...not politics, not users complaining. and I will issue a warning right now...Platypus better come back with a whole different perspective or, I will personally Flush him for good!!! In fact I was thinking of increasing his ban length to a year, maybe by then...All the current Mods will have retired, and sundance and his buddies will have sold the sight and You guys can cuss each other out and scam, and deal dope over the site...etc.do all the things you feel robbed of...
I still want to know where all these great sites are?...you know the ones that allow the non-owning members to just run rampant over their creation/forum...where are they? I can't wait to join...LOL
It is obvious that PlatyPuss posted this thread as an insult to the team, and again is wasting the valuable time of his peers. It was done out of spite, and will not be tolerated...Big C...good perspective...I thought that I wrote that when I 1st came onsite today...
I am tired of the babies...If you agree that these accustaions about our staff was apppropriate...be fore-warned. you are in the wrong forums...If you want to communicate w/people appropriately, and you want to learn cultivation...then I suggest you keep your mouth shut as far as insulting the team and your peers, and start reading about cultivation...
and as the old saying go...every time we through a jerk out on his ASS...4 people join, and 3 members in good standing shout; "Hurray"...Peace

How do you know that song, Billion?? It's ancient! I have sung that since I was a little kid and saw an old, old Merrie Melody cartoon in which little 1940s-era cartoon character singers sang that very song into a microphone, bobbing to the rhythm. Afterwards, my parents heard such repeated, enthusiastic child vocalizations of that song, my dad said, that they considered having my vocal chords clipped. Now occasionally when my dad wants to make me laugh, he'll hum it. . . . Anyway, I love it that you know that song!

That was the cartoon!!! They were little singing owl-like creatures. Wearing tuxedos. Amazing.

One sure fire way to get banned is making a post calling out
the moderators in the section they are sure to read.
birdgirl73
08-19-2006, 05:18 AM
Yeah! Because the little owl was supposed to be singing a hymn or something religious. And when the parents would turn their attention toward him, he'd roll those big cartoon eyes over at them and clasp his hands and begin soberly singing a hymn until they'd turn away again. Then he'd begin singing the "I Love to Sing-a" swing song again and bobbing to the music! That sort of blatant opposition to his parents' wishes made my heart happy as a little girl, which was why I had to sing that song so much.

OK, I know I need to quit going on about that cartoon. I can pick up on sarcasm when I read it!!!

Decided to get on my oooold username just so that I could explain myself a little bit. On the day that I made this post, I had just gotten done with dealing with roughly 120 angry residents that were impatient to check out of the building where I work. Also, I've been dry for the last two weeks or so. And I'm quite stressed out about school starting back b/c I don't want to fuck up, not to mention having to deal with the logistics of completely evacuating my room in under two hours. I was understandably frustrated, angry, and exhasperated and I came on here to read a few feedback and suggestion posts, and I sort of exploded. My dissatisfaction with this site came to a head and then was released.
It was immature, and stupid. Nobody, especially the mods, deserves this kind of disrespect. It was just a catharsis, and Christ does it feel good to have let it out and to get this junk off my chest. It's not an excuse for my behavior, just an explanation.
I doubt that it really matters, but for what it's worth, I apologize to BobBong and Psycho4Bud, whom this post was primarily aimed at. I realize that you are doing the best damn job that you can, and that you're not perfect. Nobody is.
So whatev.

I'd like to thank you for the appology. I'm going to put this account also on the ban to go with your other user name. I wasn't the one to put you on and don't feel right about letting you roam under this name. If Bob would like to modify your ban, that's his call since he is the one that put you on in the first place. I stand behind the decisions of my fellow MODs.
