This peom was written by the lead singer of System of a Down, whose poetry is actually quite moving. I have a book of his work called Cool Gardens and this is one of my favorites (I find the first two lines particularly moving). I was hoping to hear a few opinions on the meaning of this poem. I have my opinions, but I would like to know what others think.
Misunderstood Rose
by Serj Tankian
I can feel you far away
Your hesitation matching mine
Sadness left as the residue of uncompromising love
Between the blind seeking
The adoration of bright doorways,
And sweet melodic voices
Dispersed by the wind, arrested in the park
I can feel you far away
With your earth blue eyes
Catching the waves of unknown oceans,
Not born,
Harvesting the seeds of torn lullabies, in disguise
Your grief matching mine
Touching glasses toasting the totality of all time
When lovers fought behind the lines of red wims
Pouring from the gashes left behind by the sweet petals
Of a misunderstood rose.

That was supposed to say "wines"...

It reminds me of a really pretty blue flower with dark blue center that stands out from the rest.
Some one really has a bond with this flower.
A comparison between a person and a blue flower seems to be the main theme for me here.

Abstracts poems like this kinda frusterate me. People spend eternity trying to figure out what they mean, but unless the author tells them, they usualy just end up being totaly off and wasting their time thinking abou tit.

me too, i know on some level it's a masterpeice but to me i could write any anstract gibberish and pass it off as soulful so it kinda taints other poetry for me
it's about 2 lovers, one of them died and the words are being said by the alive one. the line about a lover fighting behind red lines makes me think that this person was killed in a battle during a time of war

I think it's about a guy trying to get into a girl's pants by making up some bullshit abstract flowery language.

It has no certain meaning but of your own. It isn't meant to be read to find the authors reason for writing it but to make of it what you want.

It sounds to me like two people that are in love and want to be together, but for some reason just cant be.

How do you know? You would have to ask the author that. If I was to write a poem, I would have a set meaning in mind for it. It's not meant to be subject to your own interpretation. Any interpretation that isn't my original meaning is simply an incorrect interpretation of the poem.

i think its about those times, when your with a nice little girl, and your doing something illegal, and bonding.....then she/he gets in trouble (arrested possibly) and you feel bad
