View Full Version : Emergency Plant Transportation! How and what time?

Hola. Although its not a super immediate emergency, it is happening sooner then I expected. A full month sooner then I expected. I have to move everything in 2 weeks. My new place is far larger and way chiller. However, its about a 45 minute drive away.
What is the best way to transport plants. I will have 5 plants in soil with 1.5 gallon pots that will be 5 weeks into flowering. They will be around 3 feet tall, but they are single stalk sativas. I will have 2 plants in an 18 gallon DWC setup that will be 3 weeks into flowering, and 4 plants in another 18 gallon DWC setup that will be 2 weeks into flowering. What the fuck do I do?!?!
Essentially, I have some main questions.
A) Do I travel in the day or the night? If I travel at night, how bad is it for them to be exposed to light out of the normal schedule?
B) Do I travel with water in the resovoirs or empty?
C) Does putting the 5 soil females into a tall box to keep them steady sound good?
D) Is there anything I can give my plants to keep them from stressing?
E) Any other tips one might have?
I have traveled an hour with the 2 site 18 gallon DWC and a bag over it during the night (but before lights out) already, and they recovered well. However, this is a FAR twistier highway and I will have some plants 5 weeks into flowering instead of just in the veg state, so I dont know how they will fare.
I am a medical marijuana patient in my state, so it is legal for me to possess this many plants. The vehicle is registered and is a new German make, plus I will not speed. I am not especially worried about Highway Patrol as I am with stressing the plants.
Thanks much.

id set the pots into boxes in the back of a truck or something...shut the boxes if u can doing it during the dark period of the lgihting schdule...
as for stress....try to keep the pots secure inside the boxes so they dont move around much and try to go at a steady pace when driving, no stop and go stop and go...it could potentially snap a stem..try a smooth road to
as for the resovior i dont know ur set up so i dunno if itll spill or not...

After you pack the pots together, you could loosely pack some newspaper or bubblewrap around the plants' stems so they don't move too much and snap a stem like Dryst said

what works well is simply wraping some twine around your plant several times
and snug it up so there is now branches swinging but all stable, dont stess
to much there a weed and they can handle being moved just secure them well.
Check all you lights ie. brake and turn signals dont want to be stopped for a 2 dollar bulb.
Peace

Thanks guys. I think I might combine all the ideas, use a box for the soils and tie them up as well, and put some bubble wrap in there. The vehicle luckily is very new and has absolutely nothing wrong (but Ill double check before I leave, ya never know).
So that leaves me with what to do with the DWC setups. They are 18 gallon DWC (the Rubbermaid Roughneck kind). They are both pretty sealed up but I can ductape em around the edge to make sure. the 2 site DWC has been LSTed so its very secure. However the 4 site DWC has not been LSTed and the Alaskan Thunderfuck is a couple feet wide and its a little stretched. So I think I will incorporate some twine and maybe some coat hangers in the hydroton to keep those guys settled.
But do I leave them full of water? Half full? I actually could hook one an air pump for the ride and power a few airstones. Hmmm, I am going to assume that is the best action, but the water will be sloshing around a ton.

Sorry, can't help you with the hydro setup, but let us know how the move goes and post pictures of the girls :)

I decided I am going to move them this next week. I figure earlier in flower the better.
Here is picture of everything that needs to be moved.
why not move all the equitment, the electrical shit n that which i cant see been to much of a problem if u got a decent size car, move that in the day till its all gone, then move your plants at night, i dont see the prob, if u have a big enuff car for them n travel at night, and u secure them wid string or rope or w/e tickles ye pickle, it shuldnt be a problem, were do u live? i doubt the police will b behind u, havnt u got anythink in the soil that soaks up water, stores it for wen its needed, cant see 1hour no water doing anythink, and the police well.. lol here in the uk, if i got caught wid weed plants in my car, they wuld just send a big enuff car, pick them up, caution me lol. I got caught wid loads of bud on me few months back wen our car got pulled for no reason, 5 lads in a VW golf.. not suprised lol alls they said is if anyone has got weed on them hand it over that'll b it, well if your under 17-18 u get nicked, lucky im 18 lol

doob, Im not worried about the no watering for the soil plants. if I give them a good soaking they will go 2-3 days without water (but they are small pots).
what I am worried about are the 2 18 gallon deep water culture hydroponic setups. I can BARELY (read barely) lift 15 gallons of water and I dont want 30 gallons of water sloshing around in my trunk. But I dont want no water because then the roots will dry out.
I am just trying to figure out the best way to transport everything with the least amount of stress on the plants. The hydro plants have seen a LOT of abuse in the last few weeks before they got under my care, so I want to be extra careful. Last, Im not worried about police. Even if I do get pulled over for some incredibly random reason, I am medical and allowed to transport more plants then this even.
hey just an idea but mayby get a black bin bag or sum sort of waterproof bag fill it up with water, get one big enuff for the plants root to go in, empty the setup, or is it risky taking them out and emptying it? dont no too much bout deep water culture but if u are allowed i dont see the problem, if it has to be done it has to be done lol, fuck um heh :) tell them theres no other way lol sort um an 8th :D
