August 11, Portland, OR.
Holy shit, the fucking Chili Peppers were great. Sadly, The Mars Volta (a band I really dig) blew their whole fucking set. There was no distinction between the instruments and it became an hour long mission to see who could come up with the most crazy sounding shit which made it all sound awful. Everyone in the Rose Garden was so down on Mars Volta, people in the front rows sat down. After a 30 minutes intermission, The Chili Peppers opened with Can't Stop. Everyone was on their feet dancing their white little hearts out (myself included). Then they moved on to Dani California, and played it pretty much by album (except Kedis missed one of his lines). Next they played Scar Tissue... everyone was singing so loud that it created a melody with Kedis. Then they played a few more songs off Stadium Aracdium (Snow, Wet Sand, Tell Me Baby, Charlie and Readymade). Then they had a huge fucking jam on throw away your television. John Frusciante then played one of his solo songs which was kinda fun. Then they closed on By The Way, and got a 10 minute ovation... everyone had their phones or lighters out. Chad Smith came back on and started busting a drum solo untill the other three got back on for Soul to Squeeze. They ended the show on Give It Away. After the song, Kedis left and the other three jammed on some funky shit for 15 minutes and then they left and the lights came on.
Went to my friends placed, smoked bowls and couldn't get my ears to stop ringing.
Is the marz voltas new stuff any good? It sucks that they arent very good in concert I think they are coming to milwaukee soon.

Chili Peppers are always damn good in concert, seeing them in Oakland soon
Some bands however just plain suck on stage. Anyone can be made famous by a record company cause they do whatever to your voice in the studio persay like Ashley Simpson

Lucky bastards. RHCP is my favorite band, the band that got me into music. (As in, REALLY got me into music. The first band to ever open my eyes)
I wish I could go...

I was gonna go to the TMV/RHCP show, but I decided to spend my dough on Tool tickets instead.
That sucks about TMV. They were pretty awesome when they came here last spring. I dunno if I dig their new album all that much... even Frances the Mute was a lot more accessable, IMO, and I can't even imagine the new stuff being played live.

White? There were only white people there? Racist?
You may have never been to Oregon, but almost everyone here is white. Besides, dancing to the chili peppers should be "white-boy" dancing, because that is so much of what the embody.

some bands just suck live and then again sometimes they might just have an off night. I've seen a few bands like that dissapointed me live, then again I've been surprised by bands I thought would suck live. I'm getting to go the family values in tampa in sept. I can't fuckin wait. There should be enough bands there to get at least a couple good sets.

Spunds like a good show. Although I saw Mars Volta open for SOAD and I hated them. I still do. Just not my thing. :)

Rancid will be a great show. I saw Blues Traveller this summer, and if any of you get a chance, you should go see them.

I saw Rancid a few years back at Warped Tour. They put on a good show. Nothing big or fancy, but the kind of show where you'd do more moshing than watching the band perform.
I saw Slayer on July.11th with COB, and I go see Tool in a few days. :) Now that, is going to be sweeeeeet!

Man I didn't know The Mars Volta was releasing a new album so soon. D/Ling it right now. I hope this is better than Francis The Mute. I have a feeling this will be a hard sell.
I saw Mars Volta at a smaller venue. They are so much better in that environment than stadiums.

I mean part of the reason Mars Volta blew was the acoustics, but they were just off that night. I guess some of it was also because of the situation with their drummer, but even Omar (one of my fav. guitarists) was off. None of this mattered after RHCP came on, because they rocked so hard.

God this new Mars Volta album is weird. A little different than their other stuff, but it's not innovative, just sounds all over the place.
I'm having a hard time digging it. It's a decent album, but not on par with De-Loused
