Researchers also noted the public may think cigar smoking is a safer and less addictive alternative to cigarettes. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, cancer deaths among cigar smokers are 34 percent higher than among nonsmokers. They also state cigar smoking causes cancers of the larynx, oral cavity, esophagus, and lungs. Just like cigarettes, cigars contain nicotine.

A 1996 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), found an estimated six million US teenagers aged 14-19 had smoked at least one cigar within the past year.

Here are some other facts about cigars and their usage:

The carcinogens and cancer-producing chemicals found in cigarettes are also present in cigars.

Cigar smokers have three times the risk of developing lung cancer than nonsmokers, according to a 1985 study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI).

Cigar smokers are more likely than nonsmokers to suffer from persistent coughs, phlegm, and are at increased risk of peptic ulcers, according to a 1987 issue of The American Journal of Public Health.

Concentrations in tar and nicotine are much higher in cigars than cigarettes, according to a study in a 1988 edition of Preventative Medicine. In a presentation at a June 1998 American Cancer Society conference on the health risks of cigar smoking, scientist Jack Henningfield, PhD, vice president of research and health policy at Pinney Associates noted the amounts of nicotine in cigars. "A study of 10 cigar types showed that cigars contain amounts of nicotine ranging (on the low end) from that equivalent to a single cigarette to (on the high end) that equivalent to an entire pack of cigarettes. Most cigars contain nicotine in quantities equivalent to several cigarettes," he said.

Exposure to secondhand cigar smoke carries the same risks as exposure to secondhand cigarette smoke, according to an article in the January 10, 1995 edition of TheWashington Post.

Cigar packages bear no warning from the Surgeon General, as cigarette packages do.

The 1990 Budget Reconciliation Act taxes cigars at a federal level of $1.125 per thousand, which equals less than a penny each.

Lol eh, ty and yeah I know thats whats makin my stomach hurt. Not only that but the scent. But hey, they are a great substitute when you dont have marijuana, and they are legal so the cops cant do shit about my buzz ^_^. And yeah, I inhale black and milds. But the tip makes it so hard for me to tell how much smoke I took in so I usually just let a little get out and if it's a thick cloud of smoke, I usually wait before I inhale.

Lol Mike, if I'm smokin a cigarillo with weed in it, yeah I only smoke Swishers or Phillies but if I'm smokin just for a buzz or dont have any weed a black n mild does it for me. I dunno, I guess I just like 'em cuz of the tip that sorta stops my hand from smellin so bad and also it's skinnier than a Swisher so I dont have to sit there and take in twice the tobacco. Never smoked a black with weed but I love teh swishers ^_^.

Wait, I'm sorry lol. I was gonna make a whole new thread about this but when I was thinking about making this thread I totally made it not pertaining to what I originally wanted to ask. So what I originally wanted to know was does Black & Milds contain as many additives as cigarettes or does it contain less? And if I just puff on them instead of inhaling the smoke like I do when I'm smokin marijuana can it still be more cancerous than cigs. I know we all have to die one day but I rather die instantly, not a long agonizing cancerous death.

That study doesn't qualify as scientific proof that marijuana smoke inhalation doesn't help cause cancer. That is only one study and even they don't claim to have proved that marijauna doesn't cause cancer. They use these words "several people suggested that lack of quantity may explain why no association was found, because the number of marijuana cigarettes smoked is much lower than the number of tobacco cigarettes smoked. "It is true that we can't really correlate pack-years," says Ford, "and it should be noted that about 30% of the marijuana smokers never smoke cigarettes."

also... the name of the article is "Marijuana Unlikely to Cause Head, Neck, or Lung Cancer" Not "Marijauna scientificaly proven to not cause cancer"

Oh, and smoke of any type is unhealthy for your lungs. No matter what you are smoking.

there haven't been real studies that link weed to any cancer really. the reason everyone says it causes cancer is because they say it has more tar and shit than cigarettes do. that's retarded. we need some real information. if people were free to study this plant we'd know exactly how bad it is for us, but at the moment all we know is that it's not nearly as bad as "they" say it is.
