hey guys when I got here I knew shit about growing and you all helped me with some seriously stressed plants I had. I was attempting to grow outdoors in a potter and had horrible medium, watered way too much had no clue about nutes etc, and I am frankly surprised my babies didn't die. I looked to you for help, and gave me support on my first grow that was invaluable. So, I wanted to say thanks and share with you what a difference your input has made on these little girls (I hope) The first pic was taken exactly two weeks ago, and the following pics are the same plants. The last pic is one I am having a bit of trouble with and any input would be great. She is turning real yellow, and it isn't like a nute burn from the tips inward but more of a splotchy yellow the eventually lime green and so on. It has began toward the bottom working it's way up. the soil ph was has remained around 6.0-7.0. I was told to add dolomite lime to the soil when I transplanted her due to being rootbound, and I did. She is still continuing on this destructive path, and it concerns me just a bit... I gave her some nutes today when watering, so we will see if it balances out things more... i don't know.. There are no bugs... I am at a loss here, so if you know or have suggestions, please help....
Other than that I will continue to post here and since these are lowryders I keep them on a 24/0 light regime... still waiting to discover hairs and hopefully not balls.
Thanks again for all your help guys...

with my expirence, you dont have to worry unless the plant starts to literally die. i mean look at any normal weed growing outside.. theyve got yellow'd leaves but they grow fine

thanks ya'll... I am just going tokeep an eye on the yellow girl and will be posting some pics of potential "balls". I hope not but maybe you all can help me...
I know that balls grow in clusters but i am having some things grow out of the nodes that do not look like branch growth to me and since these are lowryders I would expect them to be showing sex already. They are not growing in "clusters" but one little ball thingy per node side right behind that one node leaf.... if that makes sense to any of you....
Thanks

oh and purpleman... yes they were started from seeds.... believe it or not they were a couple months old in the FIRST picture.... we saved them from sure doom...

o one thing how much nutes are you putting in? because ive heard of yellowing of the leafs happening because that plant wasnt getting enough nutes.

elway07
08-15-2006, 09:38 PM
the same amount as the rest of them... I put one and a half teaspoons per gallon of water and give it like every three days... the other four seemed to love it. I was afraid of a nute lockout due to low ph so I flushed, added lime and then the second time after gave it nutes again... It seems to be geeting a bit greener. I will wait a couple days and if it gets worse, I will check the ph and try to go from there... did you see the pic? what do you think?
Oh another question... when aplant begins to show sex... it is more shown up top first on the higher nodes or middle, or bottom?? Thanks guys

Just wanted to update on my "yellowing" girl. After the treatment I did last posted right above this one Helped a lot... after a couple days she is getting greener by the minute... I had to repot the biggest one again... that thing grows so fast. The only thing is, I am afraid She is not a she. I will give it a bit longer to see it out as they aren't far enough along to cross polinate as of yet. Keep your fingers crossed and I will be posting some updated pics and maybe you all can help me double check the sex of these babies....

Thats great that shes getting better.. yea PH really affects them.. your using distilled water right? and im not sure about the question you asked about the sexing.

Purpleman... I was just stating that I would be posting pics tomorrow so that you all could see and double check what I already think about a couple of my plants being male... they are my best two big and bush but I think they are male... yeah... I am happy that the other one is getting her color back... I gave them a little superthrive with the watering today.... so we shall see what if any improvement it makes on them... overall, they all seem happy.
I can make hash out of the males right? how do I do that and when? If anyone knows... Happy growing all.

oh and no I am not using distilled water... I use spring water...

ThePurpleMan
08-17-2006, 09:41 AM
o ok spring water is probably better but if she turns yellow agian you could try using dissteld water.. ill get you a guide on hash making in another post im just to lazy to do it at this very second

ThePurpleMan

http://www.neonjoint.com/drug_recipes/chapter12.html

ok here is a link to a couple of diffent methods.. I have never made hash before so you should probably have people who have accully made it give you suggestions... I dont want you to use one of these methods and have it waste what could of been alot of good THC thats all im saying

elway07
08-17-2006, 03:03 PM
thanks... I can make hash with male plants correct? That is what I have read but wanted to make sure.
I don't use distilled water anymore as I once used to because in the distilling process, the water is robeed of micro nutrients and minerals that are needed in the hydration process for the plant... So I just use natural spring water and have found much much better results...

Anyone on the new pics have an oppinion?

hoodrider
08-18-2006, 04:57 PM
First and last might be female. The third might be male and the other two i don't know.

On the yellowing that was a nutrient deficency. When a plant turns pale green/yellow from the bottom up that means nitrogen deficent.

I'm a professional photographer so I use a Canon 20D and the lseries lenses...the whole setup cost about 5 grand.... Thnaks for the comments on the quality...
On the nute def. yeah I finally got it figured out... I didn't have any lime in my soil and it went into nute lockout and so I corrected the PH and gave nutes once again....
This may be a stupid question but thought I would ask anyway... on the trichromes... they grow on both male and female correct?

Ok guys I have another serious question.... Lowryders are supposed to be auto flowering plants.... really quickly... All the lowryders I have seen don't look like this... Although these are staying short and getting VERY bushy I am question the strain here... they are way past 30 days old, and although stunted for some of the 2.5 months they have been alive, they should be undeniable and showing the sex a lot!! I am thinking about trying to put a couple of them into a 12/12 flowring situation, but I hear if they are lowryders that my yield will decrease by doing this..... What is your opinion in this matter and do you think they are indeed lowryders or another hybrid of some sort???? Thanks for your responses here.....

Anyone else??
I will update more later, but bought four more cfl 100+ W to help spread the wealth of the light in my grow room seeing I had mostly tubes and now that they are getting so much bigger in a lot bigger pots I can't give them as much light the needed with my setup. Changing the room eniterly for this new setup and I will post pics when I can... but anyone else have any clues as to sex or answers to any of my other questions?
thx guys

 here are the pics of my new setup/closet grow box.. Yes that is aluminum foil as I have to buy mylar soon, but spent the money I had set aside on more of a lighting system I have a fan circulating air through the side and keeps it cool so far... I am hoping for the best here and any questions/comments are welcome...
Still waiting for undoubted confirmation on sex as well...
Happy growing!

08-27-2006, 08:05 PM
ok ya'll I will posting pictures by the end of the day, but as I said they loved the new setup... I ended up with three females out of my five plants just on 18/6 out of 24/0 I killed the males and saved what I could for hash, took some clones from my females that are under a dome and thriving at the moment. I am putting my other three to 12/12 today. They are about a foot and 1/4 tall and bushy as hell right now... the temp is kept about 80 degress F and the humidity pretty much stays at 60%. My question is that I know that in flowering stage the humidity needs to be lower correct? right away or just when the buds begin to grow? How low does it need to be? Thanks in advance guys!
love ya'll

you want humidity to be 40- 50% for flowering

elway07
08-27-2006, 08:21 PM
any other way besides a dehumidifier that you know of to get it down? Is that 40-50% from the beginning of 12/12 or just towards the end?

08-30-2006, 07:11 AM
yeah I ended up with three female and two male... I moved them to 5 gallon buckets as they are getting real big and postponed the 12/12 a few more days to allow a good recovery.
Buster... good to hear from you too. I will be putting up new pictures hopefully tomorrow.
The clones are doing well, and I am excited seeing this strain which seems very high grade, is yet a mystery.. I love surprises. don't you??
thanks to everyone else for stopping by and leaving nice comments!
happy growing,

Well guys I thought it was time for an updated entry including updated pics seeing that I have been promising for the last few days and my lazy ass finally got around to it... Here are the girls in their new home. They have grown a lot since they were moved into a better enviornment. After sealing off the entire door and all little teeny light creaks have discovered that with the new buckets and increased amount of water the humidity levels rise rise while in the dark period. I have to go buy a mini dehumidifier this week I guess before I start 12/12 to avoid mold....
Anyway any suggestions like always are appreciated. Enjoy the new pics!
much love
and happy growing!

yeah thanks buster... I just got my grapfruit feminised seeds in the mail today... My next batch... can't wait... Maybe I will try some crossing of these two as an experiment with some of the pollen I have in the freezer I got from my males before pulling them... I am indeed a scientist at heart. Always have been. LOL

I just gotta say those are looking very nice, I'm growing with a similar setup except I gotta say yours is way better!!! You must be one wiring mofo!!!! I can barely get batteries into my remote right most of the time... so I've only got one CFL and a 48" fluro hood and two 24" fluro tubes I supplement w/. I'm just hoping it's enough. Anyway just wanted to drop in my 2 cents and say nice grow m8!!

those are some sweet looking plants mate, but in some of the photos you posted earlier a few of them where male, (the ones with leaves that look like little hands) and was jw if you pulled them or not, if your plants are yellowing gradually rather than quickly and in patches it might just need a little more light, try lengthening its day a little or bringing the light closer, alot of the time its not a neutrient problem that yellows the leaves, but thats always the first thing people expect it to be....

elway07
09-26-2006, 06:47 PM
Yeah I had five plants in all two male, two female, and one my dog topped very early one that I have found sice flowering is another female and it is about 1.5 feet tall but very very bushy with buds. I also have one clone I put in there to flower and it's doing real real well. The one plant that seems to have a hint of yellow to it has been my "trouble plant" the entire time which I have nick named "i've been sick". It is wierd. I think the strain is different than all the others. I got the seeds from a friend who is a medical marijuana grower. It is yellowing slowly but when I turn off the hps, it isn't as bad as I thought but still noticeable to me. I figure it is normal for that strain during this stage of flowering.. I give them all the same nutes, same medium, same light etc.... I began week four of flowering yesterday and have some updated pics here for you. How do they look as this is my first grow, and I have nothing to compare it to... Thanks for stopping in and thanks for the comments and questions.... plants are about 4.25 feet now maybe taller...

well guys all but one of these hermied on me late. WTF??? there are only a few spots with balls and nothing opened yet so I just cut em all off. I am sure I will not be able to get them all.
1. will one ball opening ruin a crop?
2. what could make them hermie 4 weeks into flowering?
Also, the balls are only on the lower parts of the plant. all of the buds up top are still flourishing...

busteruk7
09-28-2006, 08:19 AM
1. will one ball opening ruin a crop?

one ball can do a lot of damage if there is fans in the room
just do ya best at cutting these little suckers off and you should get some decent bud from them in the end
that is a damn shame elway m8 i cant beleive it
well i guesss you can say SHIT HAPPENS hey

elway07
09-30-2006, 12:59 AM
yeah it has only affected the lower portions of the plant and lower portions of the branches, so I just cut the little growths to half way up the colas... I found quite a bit of em hatching. One kinda opened and the pollen fell ito my hand while I was ripping it off. I think I got all of em for now, but will keep a search out every few days. The tops are bushing like crazy though....
