View Full Version : The greatest gaming console EVER

Good morning/afternoon/evening (delete as appropriate)

Yesterday, I found my old playstation in the cupboard and I hooked it back up to my tv and now I'm in love all over again! I urge everybody to throw their current gaming consoles out the window (assuming you have gaming consoles. and windows. and that the gaming console is not already what i'm about to say to replace it with...) and go out and try and find an original sony playstation. not the newer, compact one (commonly known as the PSone). the one that looks like a big old brick.

best.gaming.console.EVER. full stop. anyone who disagrees is officially uncool and deserves to have their thumbs removed so they can no longer play on their useless 21st century pieces of junk (i.e xbox 360).

Later, I'm now going to resume where I left off 5 years ago on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3...

the sega genesis kicked some ass too.

I was stupid enough to buy a sega saturn, and then a sega genesis. I never had a ps1 because of those losses.

I've been a gamer since the beginning of time and I still have every console made since they first came out with the exception of "pong" (Fairchild is the first console game).

Dude 64 will go down as the greatest console system of all time. The last cartridge game made and classic, simply classic games that will never be forgotten for the ground that they broke.

Games like Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Golden Eye, Star Fox, and that unbelieveable Legend of Zelda game were so far ahead of their time.

Dont get me wrong, I love my 360 dearly and play it daily, but you dont get the same feeling you had when you first fired up that 64. Playstation runs a close 2nd and it did indeed have way more games to choose from. 64's problem was that it took way too long to come out with games. They released it too soon, but the small amount of games that there were to choose from were so colorful and extraordinary.

I still have a extra 64 unopened in the box that I bought when they went down to 99 bucks.

Playstation ones are now going for £10 used on amazon.co.uk... and that's not even the brick version

Where have the past 5 years gone!? I remember when they were £100. This is an outrage. A bigger outrage is that I can't find anywhere to buy old games from.

Bloody hell, still having a ps1 after all these years is making me feel old...

All game consoles were great in the time at which they were at.
All the past games on them seemed good because of time we were at in our lives. Current generations of fans have new games and new consoles that they consider classic already. Games like Halo, Half life, Doom, Quake, etc...

Time moves on. So the greatest game console ever? Well, that would currently be the XBOX 360.

I have a PSX. I have to say that I have a few systems that I think are better.

Atari 2600 - C'mon.. you can't argue with this.
Sega Genesis - Large number of fantastic games.. Sega Channel made this system king in my opinion, until it tanked.

Dreamcast - Great graphics with one of the best controllers I have used (until the XBox)

N64 - I got the system so I could play Goldeneye, Mario64, and Mario Kart 64.

As well as the 32x, Sega CD, Virtual Boy, and Nintendo DS. There was nothing on the PSX that I couldn't enjoy more on a different system.

lol why the hell would you want a playstation one... when you can have a playstation 2? playstation 2 can play any PS1 game and can aslo play newer and better games. like grand theft auto san andreas. ps2 is better than ps1 in every way (DUH... thats why is a psTWO) the only game i actually ever play is san andreas. and thats about once every two months. i used to be into videogames... but i've grown out of them. videogames are a waste of time and life. go outdoors and build some muscle and character and build your brain...

I break out the PS1 every so often. I have EVERY (yes, EVERY) game on the original disc or copied to a CD-R. I play them with a mod cartridge that also lets you use GameShark cheat codes. I also have a VCD player/kit for it but was never ever able to burn VCDs correctly.

Just get an emulator and play the games on your PC.

Basically an emulator will let you play games for other systems on your computer. They make emulators for alot of systems and computers...C64, SNES, Sega Master System, arcade machines (MAME), Coleco, Intelli, etc.

To get started, you need an emulator (emu) for the system you want to play and a ROM of the game(s) you want to play. Emulators can be found all over the place. ROMs are a different issue. A place like Global ROMs will let you download entire sets and emu's. You can also use something like BitTorrent to find ROMs. 2 weeks ago, I downloaded a 13 gig torrent of MAME ROMs. So I can play about 4000 different arcade games on my computer...and SNES, Atari, Game Boy, GBC, etc. etc.

If you google for 'emu snes roms', that will get you going. Change 'snes' to any other type of system you're interested in.

Those of you who are really interested in gaming should get emulators.. they have them for nearly every console so you can run these games off your computer (excluding newer generation consoles like ps2, xbox, gamecube, ds, etc). Just google it or whatever and you should find a lot of info on this, including places to download games for free and such if you dig hard enough (I've found ps1 games before) :) If anyone wants any more info feel free to ask (and I'm sure others here know of emulation as well)

I know sometimes running these games off your computer isn't quite the same as the real thing, but it's great for nostalgia.

Sega Master System

I had one of these too! It wasn't even new, it was second hand from my cousins... It had Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in on it and I had a Shinobi game and some tennis game. God I miss that console...

Maybe you just can't afford the newer consoles?

That is true :(

there isnt a point in arguing for Sony's sake, because the internet is controlled by Nintendo fanboys. I love most systems from NES (metal gear solid, double dragons v battle toads, etc) to ps# (GTA, MGS 1-3). but the playstation still reigns. with games like battle arena toshidan, GTA, final fantasy games, and MGS, none can compete.
