i have a very nice metal pipe that i bought at a festival but i have been using it for a while and its a wee bit dirty. how can i clean it? i have seen pipe cleaning fluids for sale but i wanna try to avoid the LONG trip into town to buy some, any suggesetions? i have heard alcohol will clean it but i dont have anything but vodka and i think that would work out as very expensive just to clean a pipe lol :D any help from you guys would be great

i used rubbing alcohol when i cleaned out my pipe, it got hte shit off there really well. I used to think it had a smoky glass design or something, but it turned out that it was all gross resin build up (it was a used pipe). The only problem was that unbeknownst to me, the carb had broke sometime agao, and been glued back on, and the rubbing alcohol took out the glue too, so my carb fell out.
Just try using some warm/hot water, and maybe a tiny bit of soap, but rubbing alcohol works bestest!

you could clean it for resin, just take your lighter and light the inside briefly (about a second or two) then get a bent paperclip and scrape the sides on the inside over a peice of paper

Obviously cleaning solutions like rubbing alcohol and nail polish removers would work best, but if you just want it reasonably clean... hot water (the hotter the better, within reason) with some good grease cutting soap is good. What ever you do, rinse the fuck out of it, don't want any chemicals still in there when you light up.

I don't know if nail polish remover is a good idea, I personally use rubbing alcohol (proper name is Isopropyl Alcohol).

I might be wrong, but isn't nail polish remover isopropyl alcohol? Or at least a high percentage.

nailpolish remover has acetone and chemicals in it..and bitrex. makes it really bitter so you dont swallow .yea. i wouldnt want to go hit my bowl and get a trickle of that in my mouth. a lil bit will make you sick :(

so if you do use nail polish remover, make sure its CLEAN before use. i like rubbing alcohol. and dont waste that resin, do what they said to clean/get resin..yummy

I FORGOT TO TELL YOU GUYS TO RINSE IT W/ SOAP AND WATER AFTERWARDS. NAIL POLISH REMOVER IS DANGEROUS IF INHALED.

yeh BUT it also evaportaes at a low temperature so if you leave it out for a while it dries fast and its safe. i cleaned it with boiling water anyway just to be sure, its nice and sparkeling now :D

Even if it evaporates, not all of the chemicals in there will, there will undoubtably be some residual chemicals that cannot, CANNOT, be healthy. Isopropyl Alcohol is legal, it's freaking rubbing alcohol. Just go to your local pharmacy or drugstore, hell most big-box stores probably carry it.

Also, I don't know what either nail polish remover and rubbing alcohol will do to finishes on wood pipes and the like. I have no idea if it starts to deteriorate or not, and don't want to find out by it happening to my pipe. Never endanger your paraphernalia if you can avoid it... treat it like your own flesh and blood.
