View Full Version : China Plans to Slaughter 500,000 Dogs

In a hideously cruel response to an outbreak of rabies in late July, authorities in China ordered the killing of more than 50,000 dogs, 4,000 of whom were immunized against the disease. Officials clubbed many animals to death in the street right before their guardians' eyes, while others suffered gruesome deaths by poisoning or electrocution. Now the Chinese government has issued orders to kill an additional 500,000 dogs. None of these beloved companions will have the benefit of a humane death, because there isn't a single law in China that prevents cruelty to animals.
Please help urge the Chinese government to call of this planned massacre: CLICK HERE to learn more and to write a message to Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong. PETA president, Ingrid Newkirk, will personally deliver all of the letters to Mr. Wenzhong. After you write a message, repost this bulletin so that your friends can write in - the animals need all the voices they can possibly get!

I appreciate your love of animals and whatnot but don't you think if the Chinese had means to a more effective manner in which to cull the semi-wild dogs, that have ATTACKED humans!, they would use it?
Instead, why not send the Chinese some vets to sterilze at least some of them? Also, we shouldn't be quick to judge the cultures of others by our own standards. Historically semi-wild dogs were viewed by many cultures as a source of mobile, low investment potential food/material resource.
Culling is nothing new and has allowed humans saftey in their areas of habitation. It may not sound very humane but it will provide a quick, effective solution. Additionally, the Chinese have more important problems than animal rights to deal with first, namely human rights violations.
Let's hear a call to work on that first. I guess we'll have to put that joint down. Darn. . .

Sure and I loved Old Yellah, Lassie, Benji and all dem.
But come on, China has one of the worst human rights records out there. We can't be fuss'in over some dogs-humans are more important. I know it may sound hard to believe in this day when pets are treated better than human beings, but it's true. The petvertisers out there don want ya to know it but humans are more important than pets. They were man's best friends for a reason. When staration hit human settlements, dogs extended the periods that starvation coudl be survived through.
Let's do something about human rights abuses, then worry about the poochies.

the thing is that this isnt nessecary. a life is a life.
what if you had been born a dog?
the pain and fear these animals will be experiencing will be like a child being chased and beaten to death for no reason 500,000 times. we look the other way because they look different than us and because they dont speak our launguage or whatever.
Why would you choose to defend the people beating animals to death over the victims?

Sadly Euphoric...many people follow a path that, confoundedly, allows for killing to be a birthright.

If someone tried to club my dog to death before my eyes,
I fear that I wouldn't have the restraint not to rip that person apart.

No, that whole kitten-in-a-bottle thing is just an urban legend spread by a website made by someone with a sick sense of humor. It's amazing how many people think it's real.
http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/bonsai.asp
Bonsai kittens are not real. Nobody is making bonsai kittens. Nobody is selling equipment to help people make bonsai kittens. Nobody is instructing people in the "lost Eastern art of sealing
kittens inside rectilinear jars."
The Bonsai Kitten web site is a joke, not an actual promotion for the making of bonsai kittens. Investigations by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have already determined no real cats were harmed in the creation of the pictures used on the Bonsai Kitten web site. Signing a petition to shut down the Bonsai Kitten web site will not prevent any kittens from being harmed, because no kittens were harmed in the first place.
It was all a joke, one which some say was in terribly poor taste. If that was your reaction, take comfort in the knowledge that many others thought the same.
How could you have known the Bonsai Kitten site was a satire despite its lack of "This is a joke!" banners emblazoned across it? Satire doesn't always announce itself as such (some feel that would ruin its humor), so in cases like this, one dusts off the common sense and aims it at the problem:
The process described is impossible: animals so treated would die long before they could be "molded."
The web site offers no way to purchase the materials advertised. A real commercial enterprise wouldn't build consumer interest through a flashy web site then fail to offer anything for sale. (The site does include a page of "Helpful Tools & Supplies" but provides no form through which they can be ordered.)
The "Bonsai Kitten" site displays no actual pictures of the finished product. There are plenty of pictures of kittens in jars which can comfortably accommodate them (cats are quite elastic and can fit into very small spaces without discomfort), but there are no photographs of molded kittens on display.
The cruel.com web site offers an article entitled "Happiness is a Rectilinear Kitten," their comprehensive history of the furor and media coverage generated by the Bonsai Kitten web site throughout its first year of existence.

ets see the dogs massacre 500,000 chinks
This is just plain sad. "CHinks" is a pejorative term and employing it does nothing for your image.
And yeah, CHinese human beings are way more important than some semi-wild dogs. I think that we need a priority check in the West. Pets are not humans, however much their owners wish to project a personality onto them, they should spend more time helping out other humans and befriending them instead of investing so much in an, at other hsitoric times, competitor for resources.

i knew what i was doing when i said it. i thought about it, and decided that it was worth saying. i was pissed off enough and i dont think that a little word will ruin my entire reputation on these boards. besides, its just a message board.. its not like my "immage" on here represents my "immage" to the people who really matter to me in this world (who arent on these forums)

The world is a community, and getting smaller all the time bra.
I don't think the greatest guitar god of all time, Mr. James Marshal Hendrix, would've thought that too cool either.

people are giving him heat for this, but sadly i agree. the chinese government gives both communism and humanity a bad name. this fucking disgusts me, and i assume that when he said "chinks" was referring more to chinese authorities than the general population, and yes i woud like to see the dogs masssacre 500,000 chinese authorities/police/governmental people..
i have nothing against the chinese race as a whole and im sure that night prowler doesnt either, however their govt/culture(in most aspects involving animal rights) is VERY fucked up.

Hmm, you bring up an interesting point. Are dogs' lives worth less than cows'? We have an entire industry based on slaughtering various farm animals in this country. I think stopping the spread of a disease is a much more justified reason to slaughter a whole bunch of animals than making it so people can buy hamburgers at McDonald's, and the number of slaughtered animals in this case is far, far less than what the American meat industry slaughters in a single day.
So what is it? Is it that these domesticated wolves we've got are cuter and friendlier to us?

exactly! because dogs create emotional responses in us, we connect more with them. they are useful/desirable to us alive.
because cows don't do the above they're dispensable. make a cow dance and catch a stick/ball, and i tell ya little kids will be yelling at their parents to get them one to stroke and cuddle and play with!
Tragically this is the selfish nature of existence on planet earth...it's a dog eat dog world...if you'll forgive the pun:rasta:
