Well, what kind of soil mix are you using, and is there perlite in the soile? This will determen how much water you need to use. A rule of thumb is to stick your finger into the soil and if the top 2 inches are dried out you should water.
With the light, depending on the temps, you want to try to get with in a ft of the top of plants. If you place the back of your hand at the top of the canapy and hold it there for a few minutes and it is to hot to hold it there, then it is too hot for your plants.

Do you know what the temps are? Also, are the leavs curling up or down? Also, hows the color of the plants? Don't forget to try the back of the hand thinggy to measure the heat to determen light distance.

Hey, with your leaves there may be a few things. 1. Leafs curling up can be a sign of a Magnesium deficiency or a sign that you are peeking your newts to the max. Leaves curling down also may be a newt deficiency or a newt lock out if your PH is to high or to low in the water your using. You may also have a salt build up. Heat, newt burn or lock outs. Think about all of these things. Also, if you are using a pre mix soil, it may have some time release furts that are burning your plants, or like I said, maybe causing a salt build up. Maybe try running a couple gallons of water thru your pots or taking them to a sink and running them under the foset until you get a good amount of water running threw.
Get a few more opinions that may confirm or unconfirm what I'm talking on, that's what I try to do. Adieu
