Hahaha....I was in NORML in college. They always wanted to collect membership fees...membership fees for what? Being a pothead?
I don't need to pay any membership fees for that.

what they do is what any bunch of beauracratic wanna-bes will always do. they bitch and moan, they file reports, they attempt to change what has to evolve all on its own. our beloved herb did not attain its demonized status overnight and given time the powers that be will realize their foolishness for what it is.
or maybe the earth will come to its inevitable, fiery end!
whichever way it happens i'm ready. as long as i've got a light!!

You guys obviously don't understand how expensive court is. Picket signs and smoke-out's, fearless advocates are great.. very symbolic.. but that doesn't change laws. Lawyers.. and court battles do.
Do you not think these people are advocates?
That costs a lot of money.
Do you hate the WWF(worldwildlifefoundation) just because all they do is ask for your donations? At least NORL is something that is working towards something YOU all want. Don't donate if you don't want to.. they're not making you but don't bash on a foundation that is fighting for YOUR rights (wether you think it is or not is your opinion). The point is, you don't really have the right to say shit about a foundation that's working for your right to smoke..while you sit back.. and smoke.
a bit hypocritical isn't it?

3 thumbs up BobBong! It baffles me why some people want to bash a group that is fighting the right fight. Activism takes many roles. To say NORML just collects money and that is its sole purpose is absurd...totally absurd!
Maybe before people comment they should talk to a NORML representative in their own local area. Ask them about what they do and how you could help. You will find they are involved in many areas of local govt. educating law makers and civic leaders. Every member of NORML i have talked to has been very educated and well spoken. Can we say this about many of those who post threads here?
I am a proud supporter of NORML, the emails they send out talk about the real issues we need to be addressing. When first contacting my local chapter I had the most pleasant conversation and learnt a lot. They gave me a list of people running for public office that needed help with their campaigns.
NORML also works with informing judges on all aspects of what the war on drugs is doing to our society. Having Law enforcement ( www.leap.cc ) and Judges on our side is a powerful frontline battle! Many of you should realize judges have the final say on cases in front of them (not the district attorneys). They have the power to sentence you to yrs in the pen, probation or maybe even dismissing the charges. Would it not be in YOUR best interest to make sure Judges are elected who will not sentence you to the max. amounts set forth by the law? What about congressman who will sign or start a pro cannabis bill?
How many of you have voted in election for people that agree with either decrim. or medical MJ? I bet the number is staggeringly low. You can sit in your chair whining and complaining or you can get involved. I speak daily with new people about the "war on drugs". Most want to attack my/our ideas on cannabis. This is ok, once they see that you want to converse from an educated point of view and not a pissing match...they become willing to listen. EVERY single person you can make realize Reefer madness was total bullshit and that the propaganda machine is way off base, then you could possibly have one more voter willing to help us.
I will write out a thread that has many basic points to cover as an activist. Thread will also include different banter to make the conversation have a smooth flow.
420MORY...since you are calling these people wimps, could you please post their names? Or are you talking about a toothless Carney at the State Fair who was wearing a NORML shirt that guessed your age wrong? J/J
I look forward to you starting a thread informing us on your ideology of a "fearless advocate" and what you think they should be doing. It will be a pleasure to read your ideas. Maybe I will be able to use them to help further my tools in educating others.

NORML has been in operation for long enough that one might think more to have been accomplished by now.
It's about time they begin a 3rd poloitical party.

Might I say that was a great defense for NORML's intergrity and honor. :smokin:
I have nothing wrong with them. I just like to bitch sometimes, you know? Join the bandwagon and go for the ride. ;)

Think about how many people are in America...NORML and organazations of the such are here to spread the word to these people about marijuana and deal the the political side of it. I choose not to donate to them, but I believe in what they're doing.

My donation to NORML comes in the form of spreading the truths about marijuana.

VIVA LA RESISSTANCE!!!! we need the fearless advocates to show the american public what the government has been doing behing their backs and whatnot, but we need the lawyers, politicians and judges on our side so that we can show that we're not just a bunch of raving lunatics and that we can present the facts in a more civil manner. basically what im trying to say is, that we need a balance. wars arent just won with soldiers, it also needs brains. im not saying anyone is stupid, far from it, the activist with the with picket sign stating"THE DEA HAS LIED TO YOU, LEGALIZE TODAY!" with a potleaf background blocking your way to the drivethrough window at mcdonalds is needed as much as the college hippie in the monkeysuit arguing to the judge about the real facts of marijuana. we need a balance: an army with too many warriors and not enough leaders is just as susceptible to defeat as with the opposite

with all the money and members these organisations have, they should put out tv ad campaigns. im sure they could get someone like bill maher or willie nelson to be in them.

I personally prefer the 'Marijuana Policy Project' http://www.mpp.org/site/c.glKZLeMQIsG/b.1086497/k.BF78/Home.htm ...
it seems as though they have accomplished much more in their short history, than NORML has done after all these years ... NORML was very close to getting marijuana legalized in the 1970s, but then, Keith Stroup, NORML's founder, went nuts, and decided to include cocaine along with marijuana for legalization ... needless to say, that destroyed our chances, and just provided more ammunition to the pot-haters "see?, we told you marijuana led to stronger drugs!" :( ... yada yada yada ... MPP has been producing radio and TV ads for the Nevada legalization vote next month, and keeps an active staff in Washington D.C. (where the bad guys live) ... I even broke down, and sent them some money the other day ... I'm notoriously cheap, so that's saying something :D ... check out MPP, they are fighting the good fight ... :smokin:
