Hey guys, been searching through the forums for an hour or so now and you seem like a decent bunch, but couldn't find anything that answered my question.

I'm worried about trying marijuana for the first time solely due to alergy reasons. I'm a hayfever sufferer (which is strictly pollen, i believe) and have read up on Cannabis, finding that some is grown around and contains quite a lot of pollen. What I don't know is if this may trigger the same effects that the summer seson usually brings upon me (cough, blocked nose, headaches). Now as you may tell, I'm not an expert on either subjects, but I'm interested if anyone here is, and can help.

I know I could just go ahead and try it, but I don't want to start to panic about wether I'm having an asthma attack or serious allergic reaction when smoking for the first time without any proper logic behind thinking so. So as I say, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Well, I myself suffer from mild allergies, and cannabis use has in now way harmed me. Perhaps the smoking process has taken down my immune system slightly, but other than that, I'm fine.

One of the many differences between cannabis and tobacco is that cannabis widens the alveoli in the lungs, whereas tobacco shrinks the alveoli. This is why it helps some people with allergies (I would say it helps, but I don't really notice a difference with pollen)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, unless you have STRONG allergic reactions against pollen, you should be pretty much okay. I know people with asthma who smoke fine, though they usually have to take smaller hits. Just don't psyche yourself out! It's important to be happy and calm, you'll be okay.

edit: interceped by graph my post mite be useless

well i no that it cane be used to help asthma (sounds counter logical i no) but i doubt any burning pollen would cause a similar reaction... i think the best thing to do is just try it... i no its probably not wat u wanted to hear but i dunno.... there have to be tons of ppl who smoke and have allergies to pollen....

u could just go with hash if u can if u dont wnat to test with bud

I have mild hayfever allergies and have smoked for years...
Take it slow, if you're really sketched out, make sure you have someone with you in case some fucked up shit goes down.

I'm not a doctor, either, and won't be one for four years yet. (And that's only if I pass!!!!) Too bad the actual resident doctor in my house doesn't get home from taking our son back to college till tomorrow.

Allergies and asthma are something I struggle with, and I have found that weed gives me some allergic response. I won't ever be sure it's the weed, however, or the fact that I used to smoke it outside on the back patio, where there's tons of pollen and dust in the air. Whatever causes it, my eyes get puffy and I sneeze more than usual, and I get headaches and wheeziness. But that happens to me all the time anyway. On the detergent aisle at the grocery store. In fabric stores. Outside when they've just mowed the grass. On Thursdays and the other six days of the week.

Try some grass and see how you react. I'm sure everyone's different because every immune system is different. If your eyes get puffy and your nose runs and you begin to wheeze, you'll know something's bothering your allergies. Unless you have a serious reaction, you can always take a small dose of Benadryl or Claritin or something like that if you get mild symptoms and still enjoy toking!

Alright, thanks for the advice! Greatly appreciated. I will, of course, give it a try with my girlfriend around and see what happens. If I die, at least I'll be the first one heheh. Thanks again

i say whip up some firecrackers or brownies or pizza or something :).. with weed in it if you want to try it and eliminate any risk of an allergic reaction. but i still dont think anythingll happen if you smoke it :stoned:

Birdgirl = Jesus?

Seriously, she gives medical advice, legal advice, and she might smoke pot. Seriously, she has got to be Jesus!

Birdgirl's like my mom. Which is sad, in a number of ways. Oh well, in a few minutes she'll bake me some e-cookies and it'll all be better.

Oh, man, Graph, didn't I read someplace that you hate your mom??? I don't want to be like her, then. I want you to like me.

And I feel embarassed about the Jesus comparison. I'd rather just be birdgirl, who happens to be fairly smart. (And who has only given legal advice one time here and only then because I thought it could help someone in a bad situation.) I probably need to lay off talking about medicine. But I can't help myself. It's what I love. It's what I read. It's what I live with. And it's what I'm about to be.

My apologies if anyone feels I've gone too far!

I love my mom. She's and incredible woman, actually. She put herself back through school to get her master's. I see a lot of your qualities in her, or vice versa. To be honest, my mom's probably the only real role model I've ever had.

It's my dad who ran out on me and my family.

Papa? Papa?

I'm an asthma sufferer and weed has definitely not harmed me from smoking it. I always breathe better afterwards. Weed dilates the bronchioli (larger vessels) of the lungs as well as the aveoli sacs, as mentioned above. It also has been shown to have antibiotic properties, meaning a healthier immune system. If you're suffering a repiratory infection, restrain from smoking it and make some brwonies or something (someone may have already mentioned this.. I'm really stoned and don't remember lol). As for general allergies you just have to know your body and how much you can handle. Hope this helps!

I get really bad fall allergies, especially to grass (the normal lawn kind)

Bud doesn't affect me at all (in bad ways)

Wow, Uberdoobie... That's like, really bad... lol, but it's the thought that counts

Oh, good! I feel better now. It must have been someone else who communicated his deep dislike for his mom in a thread. I normally keep folks fairly straight, and I definitely know you, Graph, and feel like we're pals. Which was why I was worried there for a moment.

Yes, Shoi, Bird's smart. But there's such a thing as too smart sometimes, and when it starts putting people off, if indeed it has, I probably need to just be quiet and write less. (We'll see if I can pull that off!)

'Night, guys!
