When making weed brownies, I know that the amount that should be used is a very general question, and the answer can depend on potency, recipe, and tolerance/experience.
Some people say that as a general rule of thumb, use a 1/4 oz. of weed for every stick of butter your recipe calls for.
Does anybody know the "rule of thumb" when cooking in veg. oil, like most brownie recipes call for?

what is a "stick" of butter? 1lb?
1/4 oz to 1lb of butter isn't much, it depends on the way you intend to apply the cannabis to your recipe to, straight? or make cannabutter first ?

Basically, you wanna use however much it takes to get the desired potency... I generally go for a gram a brownie, which is a pretty good dose, not a ton, but not light either.
Some other tips, since I've cooked a few times now:
- Cut up the buds as fine as you can, either using a grinder or a kitchen knife. The more surface area means more THC dissolves into the butter/alcohol/oil.
- If the recipe calls for vegetable oil instead of butter, you can still use it. Just heat the oil in the saucepan (Make sure it's 14g/spoonful of fat) until it's starting to look like it's going to boil (small bubbles forming), then add the finely chopped cannabis. It'll hiss and the bud will turn brown, and the oil should green-tinted. Stir it around for 45 seconds or so to let it all soak in, then strain it.
- It will smell, so make sure you accomodate that.
Good luck!
