hey all,
has anyone tried flowering using Envirolights?
i am thinking of replacing my 400Hps with 3 x 200Watt red spec Envirolites, does anyone think this is a good idea?
Id love to know if people got good results using these things as they claim to be 'the future of indoor growing' but before i buy some id just like some feedback.
cheers

3 of those 200 watt red Envirolites puts out 62k lumens of 2700K red spectrum and would need a hood/reflector to make the most out of their light.

1 Hydrofarm 400 watt AgroSun reflector lamp/bulb is 58k lumens of 2100K red spectrum. Their 600 watt AgroSun lamp pushes 95k lumens @ the same 2100K end of the spectrum. Both have a relector built into the bulb.

A 200 watt cfl...I gotta think that the ballast on something like that prolly gets too hot to handle. Not as hot as a HPS bulb...but for sure higher than your typical warm to the touch cfl temperture.

If an upgrade is what you're after...as well as more red spectrum hitting the plants... AgroSun reflectors are a great choice.

thanks slow, but..
how much heat do the agrosun's give out?
heat is my problem, hps and summer dont seem to mix too well.
I have a 125 blue Enviro (for veg) and that doesnt give out much heat at all.

Surface of the bulb when its on...335°F --10'' away from the front of the bulb, with no air circulation or a/c...approxitmately 95°F.

The back of the bulb, the reflective side, is always 95-98°F for me in my set up.

The bulb's shape and ensuing physics of the heat that radiates from the bulb have that bit of really hot air rising up and cooling in a hurry...I have one fan, a bit more than 5' away, pointed right at the bulb, and another pulling the rising air above the lamp and dispersing it out of the area.

They'll fit in a cool tube too. I was going to go that route, decided though that a thin sheet of glass tween the lamp and the plants would suffice. A foot away from the lamp...the surface temp of the leaves is approx. 78°F. That though is with me running the fans and a/c. No doubt a cool tube would be better suited for corraling the heat than my method...albeit a lot more bulky and cumbersome which I can do without for the time.

When the current heat wave began sweating my room...I siwtched to growing at night...makes for a HUGE difference in the overall temp of the place during the photoperiod.

thanks for the info man.
all roads point to air con or so it seems as that sounds as hot as my hps is.
U must have some serious themo to take such readings.

Yo GM...

The low end models don't cost all that much. $30-50. No grower is going to have a need to test for frigid low temps, or anything above 120°F. So, a basic model is all that is required. Bells and whistles are unrequired options.

I'm sold that having the means to get precision temp readings from every little aspect of a grower's plants and environment is hellafied handy for tweaking the grow space.

ie...the ambient air temp around the plants is 80°F...but the leaves have a surface temp of 85+ °F. So while I may not address the ambient temperature of the area being at 80°F...seeing the leaves having an unacceptable temp moves me into tweaking the space.

And then theres things like...'how hot is my forehead after sex?'

It also doubles as a handy cat toy. The lil fukrs can't help but chase the laser point up and down a wall.

hahahahahahaha uve sold me slow.
i think i must add this to my list of grow gadgets that i need, somewhere near the top.
2 days of wondering about taking the temp reading of everything in the world then it goes in the draw for the rest of its life.
cheers for ur help dude.
