hi. I am moving to a new place in a couple months and I am starting to get everything gathered up. I have done a couple little operations in a small 6x6 room and had relatively good results. However I also had the direct help of a very knowledgable friend. I am on my own now with another friend who has grow experience but nothing huge either. I would just like a few opinions. Ive researched many similar questions, but I feel each situation warrants a different answer so Im askin.
Here is the scenario. I will have a garage, that is 17x20 feet. I have a 10x15area to actually grow with. I do not like messing around and would like to do a SOG/ScrOG. I would like to take advantage of this full grow space. I understand this is a serious project but we are ready to take it on. Ive been around some similar setups as well. First and second times around will be soil. If everything goes well, we would like to dabble back into hydro. I had some issues with water tempature and root rot before, so Im slightly sour.
Instead of building a box, we are partitioning the space into 3 areas. Front area by the garage door, 10x15 grow area, and the back area where the door and washer/dryer sit. There is only 1 window, which we have the choice of being inside the grow room or in the W/D partition outside the grow room. I am not entirely sure how well my venting plan will work, but the area we will be living in stays fairly cool and breezy since its near the ocean. We are also not too worried about hearing an exhaust fan from outside, more about the sucking of intake. There is ample space between the house and the neighbor.
My plan was to take fresh new air from the front area near the garage door. If we deadbolt the garage door open just 0.5", enough to break the seal, there is significent cold air coming in. 2 inbound fans into the room, then multiple oscillating fans inside, and then most likely one one exhaust through a carbon filter. I also have a CO2 already. I figure that if we have only 2 1000watt lights traveling an area, there will not be a huge amount of heat; especially if we can find a way to route the ducting for the lights so it doesnt inhibit track movement.
Finally, we will have an extra 10x10 room available as well. Once the garage grow room is full and ready to bloom, we will move all mothers and new clones to the extra room and run a few lower powered lights and fluros for the babies.
Specific Questions.
-Would 2 1000watt HPS on tracks be able to cover a SOG in a 10x15 area?
-Would my cooling system theoreticaly work?
-I would like a target of about 125-150 plants, is that feasible with the lighting solution I mentioned? Sounds like a bad light/plant ratio but Ive been told tracks are somewhat similar to having 4 1000watt lights.
-Is there a better way to draw in air or mask the sound of air intaking? Im not worried about exhaust, more worried about the sucking sound of incoming air. The garage door is about 12 feet from the sidewalk, but its not a busy neighborhood.
-The garage is essentially a rectangle with an extra addition for the washer/dryer; would you setup your room the same way? I would like significent room up front by the door for long term storage (wont be accessing it often) and cover The wall will be painted black on the outside and covered with shelves and crap.
-Finally, what strains would you guys suggest for quick yield? Due to a medical condition I have access to many many different strains. I have access to some mothers but I dont like the notion of pulling clones of a mother that was pulled off another clone.
Thank you so much. Sorry for the incredible length. Even if no one responds, it was great to once again get it on paper and see it in front. We are very detailed oriented and Im not afraid to ask questions and take criticism.
