Read Stephen King's On Writing, and William Strunk Jr's The Elements of Style.
At least read On Writing, even if you're not particularly interested in Stephen King's usual Fiction/Cheesy Horror novels, he is a veritable expert of the written word.. His advice in On Writing will help any aspiring or conscientious writers, without the usual 12 syllable words, complex sentences and indecipherable termonology that makes people drop a book faster than you can say onomatopoeia. Peace :p
