View Full Version : HPS, MH, or Both
I'm about to start my second grow. I grew with 400W HPS for the entire 1st grow and did'nt get the results I wanted. I just purchased a 250W MH. I'm growing 1 each of WW, ICE, and Grapefruit.
Shoud I use Both lights for the entire grow or use the MH for Veg and the HPS for flowering?

Just get a San Agro HPS light. They contain an element that puts out blue light to help fill in the parts of the spectrum absent in standard HPS and MH.

what was the problem with your first grow?
Katacus, My grow room is 3 ft wide, 4 ft long, and 5 1/2 foot high.
mscaboo, I had one plant that yeilded about 8 grams. Very short plant, only 20 inches tall at harvest. I had to cut the veg time down due to time constrants (ie. Moving).
20 inch and only 8 grams?
Then there was deffinatly something wrong there.
Yeah, the bottom 6 nodes died off after transplanting.
I made the rookie mistake of cutting off fan leaves 2 1/2 weeks before harvest, along with many other mistakes. I'm hoping to do much better with my next grow.

Use flourescents (tube or CFLS) for young seedlings and plants up to about 3 weeks. Then put them under your MEtal Halide. Then for flowering you use the HPS, or both. I use 1x400w HPS +1x400w MH for flower in the summer and my 1000wHPS in the winter when cooling is not so expensive.

I would use both lights for veg, but only bloom lights for bloom.
Actually, the ideal situation since you have both lights, is to do sea of green (SOG). Both lights will be on all the time, but not in the same grow area. You could have them in the same grow area, but one or the other must be light-proof due to different schedules. For various reasons I think it is best to light proof the bloom area. This way you harvest twice as often. Much more weed, you know...
