I've got a small set up in my closet, 4 plants. I'm trying to tie them down so that I can get them to grow thick and low instead of the otherwise.

I wanted to know if there was anything to do with the smell, I'm going to get a small fan tomorrow for stem strength and circulation (i didn't start with all supplies i just got my lights today and they're fluoros :( ), and the closet is a sliding door with one door missing.

Is there anything I can still do about the smell? I may be getting a replacement door tomorrow if that helps.

4 plants in a closet in a room.

Keep the doors closed.

Avoid commercial grower-sized solutions.

Read the available FAQs on carbon scrubbers.

Small grows can get away with masking the smell. I like a combo of chopped onions left in the kitchen...nag champa burning near the grow room, but not IN it, and me walking around with a cigarette anytime someone might be or is expected to stop over. But thats me and my area...threat of exposure through aroma is minimal.

However, better peace of mind would come from knowing the bouquet of your plants is being removed from the room's environment.
Again, hit the FAQs...lotsa good info there for either a good model carbon scrubber to pick up...or small scale DIY numbers that work plenty well for the personal usage grower.

Good growing and please be sure to post any solution you end up employing for your grow. :smokin:

Thanks for the tips, I really regret getting the fluoros, I even got two, 2-tube fixtures just for the fun, although I would never have been able to come up with enough for a HPS or MH in time.

I'm pretty sure, if it gets so bad where a simple closed doors won't help, I'm going to have to work with some type of carbon filtration system.

Thanks again.

If you've got the long tube floures, as opposed to CFLs...I'd not be regretting having those handy just yet.

Myself, I've been itching to run a couple of pairs vertically in and around my nook. All in good time I s'pose.

Thanks for tha thanks:thumbsup:

So do you think with some very minor adjustments I can get a very sticky and colorful grow?

I plan on going to the store and getting some Peters 20/20/20, some root hormone for any clones, potting soil, worm castings, and perlite.

I got to get two more bulbs for the other fixture. Right now they're ar etwo 34w cool white's, should I get those GrowLux tubes for the other one? And should I later get something like warm white's to switch to for the flowering?

Thanks for your help and anyone else that may come my way.

hey ate, what the deal with flouro's man..... i dont think they're that bad, i run a closet room with 3 2-tube fixtures (4 cool white, 1f-50 (full spectrum), and 1 plant "gro-lux tube") and i love them. i have 12 plants (mixed) some cannabis, some spinish, turnips, lettece and a 1gallon "water culture" hydro system with a tomato in it, and ive gotten satisfactory results

i do agree that it doesnt compare with a hps though, but for starters and small rooms,

it does work......

1) Alright thanks, I feel good about getting the fluoro's, I guess I'll just have to wait out the first grow and see what the harvest is like...any harvest is good to me.

2) Yea. I was kind of figuring that with all the pictures I'm seeing, and then in the background I'll see that omnious big silver air duct tube for the scent.

So what kind of set up would it be? Just like the doors closed, and then a normal sized filter barrel with the carbon in it, getting air fed through it to the out side? I'll read the faqs and articles.

Alright basically I need to re-do everything in my set up, because it's causing my plants to fail horribly, and I wanted to see what you guys think of what I'm about to go buy.

Some potting soil for roses with root stimulator in the mix, some worm castings if cheaply available.

Some 5 gallon buckets to use for the plants.

Some pellets to use for clones or sprouts.

Root hormone for the clones.

Some 10 10 10 fertilizer.

Fertilizer sticks if necessary and cheap.

A small fan to help with circulation and strength for the buds to be supported.

And I'll look into setting up a carbon filter when the time is right.

I'm running them in a normal sized closet with two fluoros, and I'm probably going to go pick up two more tubes for the other fixture that I have.

I have two cool white's right now. What should the other tubes be, if you can comment, and do you think everything should go well with this set up/any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

look at my grow log in my signature below. I have my grow in a closet. and a few pages ahead i installed a carbon filter and exausts.

closet is 4lx2wx6h
hope it helps.

im not a floro man, but i think u need warm and cool floros.
also look for a hydroponic shop within driving distance.
if u can get it. get foxfarms ferts and soil. it will save u headache down the road.

also i heard fert sticks are not good. no time released ferts are good. u dont have direct control.

Can I ask what gallon pots you use?

slowthestone

Most people seem to prefer a 7 gallon /28 quart container.

Some will tell you start your sprouting / youngling ina smaller pot and then later transplant them. Others will tell you to just start them out in the largest container you have so you won't have to bother with transplanting.

Skip the sticks.

Skip mixing organics with processed fertilizers.

Start small.

Don't get detered when mistakes happen.

CFL's can yield quite well and have done so by many growers here and try a carbon filter or make an ozone air purifier, i might be doign this along with an air scenter thing

Goddamn, I've been strapped, so I haven't been able to get anything extra yet.

All I have is the same old setup that was originally killing the plants, but I think with the lights they're doing ok now.

Well. Dont' rag on me... :/ but, here's a video, that's all I have of the lights and such for now, but I've got some pictures of the plants...

I dont know what area you live in, but we have Craigslist here. I got my 250watt HPS off a nice chill guy for $75! Cheaper then some fluros! Besides, i trust getting a light off some random guy instead of a business. Just thought Id let you know.

I use fl's...

I have a box with 6 120 cm tubes and 3 90 cm tubes for side lighting.

http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?p=817827&posted=1#post817827

I am five weeks into flowering and the smell is only strong in the room where the box is. I can't smell a damn thing if I keep the door closed, but when I open it that's a different story. :smokin:

Good luck with the grow mate! :D

I think it it will all turn out ok as long as you keep those FL's about an inch away from the plants.

For awhile there I thought my plants were going to turn out to be a total failure, but as of now they are getting some decent sized buds with lots of crystals. I am hoping for maybe 3-4 oz from 5 plants. But this is only my first grow.

^Thanks!

Well. I guess if the war doesn't break out, and everything doesn't turn to hell on earth pretty soon, I'll get some high intensities for the next grow or two maybe for one stage of the grow...

By the way, how loud would a carbon filter be?

slowthestone
07-27-2006, 07:44 PM
lol

As loud as the breeze thats blowing through it!

Ate: Hey I don't know if you've already worked out the smell issue, but another option instead of a true scrubber is something like this: http://www.ionicpro.com/

People tell me they work

Yo! I got an ionic breeze QUADRA!

I hope that does the trick....it made my room go from old musty smell to good...so hopefully if I put it in that small closet it will do the trick with that plants and I won't have to go through that hassle (no matter how little it will be) with carbon filtration system...I don't think I'll need much, if I can get something like a little rubber stopped around the sliding doors and find away to either constantly or periodically get fresh air in there I think it will be good....

..but then again this is my first grow. I guess I'll have to see...

People tell me that if you're really paranoid you could put another one near your exit doors just to make sure nothing smelly gets out. Leave it on all the time, not just when you smell something.

Are these pre-flowers?

A little update.

One the first two pics, are those alternating nodes?

And on the last one, the pot tipped over from being precariously placed on my bed and pinched the branch right between the window and the edge of the pot.

Is that going to heal over, and will it still produce buds in the end? Should I do anything with it to help?

dboy
08-01-2006, 06:45 PM
yeah, those are alternating nodes. Those areas you find with close but alternating nodes are a good place to clone from btw.

Looks like minor damage to me. No worries. Guess I'd just leave it alone and see if it dies off or not.
