I came home today and my mom asked me to come down to the basement, and asked me to read a little pamphlet about ADD, and she had a list of about 9 things, and 7 of them ticked off.. and she told me she had setup a meeting w/ a doctor about it already
is this possible that I could be this old and not have ever noticed it, or is it just cuz I'm a lazy stoner? ... both my rents know I use weed often
..coming to think of this, this sounds like somerthing I should be asking a doctor... oh well? lol doctor in the house? :D
thanks
:pimp:

How old are you, Juggalo? You don't say.
I'm not a doctor yet. But I do know that there are plenty of people who don't get diagnosed with ADD until they reach adulthood, and a lot of them struggle needlessly through school when they don't have to. If an observant parent or teacher sends them for evaluation, they can benefit immensely from treatment.
There's a fairly big faction of people in the world, usually ones without medical training or information, who believe ADD is a false diagnosis of behavior patterns that are really caused by foods or environmental chemicals. I don't buy that. As a former teacher and the mother of a young man who had lots of friends with the problem, I know it's a real problem. I've seen it. One of my friends I work with was diagnosed when he was in his 30s and said it was like night and day how different he felt once he began using ADD medicine.
Go ahead and go to the doctor and let him/her screen you. It can't hurt. If they think you qualify, they may try you on some medicine to see if it makes a difference. One of my son's friends suddenly could sit still for the first time in his life when he tried the meds. His impulse control got better. He could focus and learn better. And he made friends a lot more easily.
Seems worth at least going for one appointment, don't you think?

That recently happened to me, i ended up being diagnosed with ADD, and put on ritalin.
So far so good, it seems to work, but i won't really know until the school year starts up again i suppose.

Good luck with your appointment, Juggalo. Hope it goes well.
As far as getting straight A's is concerned, ADD meds won't quite do that. They help a lot of people focus better and pay attention more effectively. But to get straight A's, most folks still have to work hard and do the usual things: go to class, pay attention, take notes, turn in assignments, ace tests, etc. Wish there were such a thing as a straight-A pill. I start medical school in three weeks, and I could use one!
If the doc does want to put you on meds, encourage him to give you one of the extended-release meds that you can take once in the morning at home and not have to take with you to school and give to the school nurse, who would dole them out. I think that's unnecessarily embarrassing and invasive for adolescent kids to have to obtain their own meds from the school nurse. Especially for teenagers, medications shouldn't be any of the school's business, frankly, except perhaps to take notice that they help a student listen and learn better.

Hey badgirl...
well ofcourse you would still have to study! Actually I am also a premed student, 3rd year now. I've never been diagnosed with ADD (never been checked for that matter) but i sometimes take adderall to help me study for tests...
I almost always do better on a test if i take some adderall to study.
Peace :D

Hey, quiero Fuego!
I figure I'm going to be so panicked the first few weeks of med school that I may be distracted. I may see if I can talk my doc into some Adderall or Concerta myself. Actually, I'm first simply going to try deep-breathing.
When will you begin applying to med schools and where would you like to go? Have you finished with organic chemistry yet? I HATED those two semesters.

Juggalo,
I reviewed the side effects of these amphetemine based drugs, ritalin and adderall.
You should realize that this is nothing but an addictive speed based medicine. Its not easy to stop once you start.
The side effects are extensive. The list on the adhdtesting.org site list 40 negative side effects including impotence, loss of libido and inability to acheive orgasm.
Not something to look forward to going into your dating years. In fact, regardless, not something to look forward to period.
That site is www.adhdtesting.org/adderall.htm
Please throughly review this site.
I have better alternatives.
My information comes from credible Doctors, responsible Physicians who are opposed to these drugs.
Dr. Walt Stoll wrote an article for Psyciatric Times.
He has had much success in advocating the same thing I have on this board.
The use of omega 3 fish oil epa.
That article: www.psychiatrictimes.com/p991211html
Please fully read the article concerning omega 3 epa.
Use search box in web site (stoll omega 3, several articles)
Print that out and show it to your mom. Or take it with to your Doc if you like. That should be the first thing to try as opposed to legal speed, (ritalin/adderall).
You can find omega 3 epa at your health food store. Make sure it is epa not dha. Give it plenty of time to work. All it is, is fish oil in capsule form.
I take this regulary myself for many reasons. It is used for depression and biopolar as well. I have neither. I never get depressed either because I know how to control these things without pharm products.
Think very carefully and weigh the consequences to taking these harmful pharm drugs.
You were not born deficient of synthetic man made chemicals. These chemicals are profitable.
Doctors dont talk about Omega 3 fish oil and other things because they cant be patented, therefore they dont discuss them. Doctors are also regulated in what they are allowed to talk about. So sadly they are confined to pharmaceutical products. I am very familiar with how the industry works.
The average American kid consumes 150 lbs of sugar per year as opposed to 5 lbs in 1920. Sugar is a big part of the problem as well as other things that rob nutients out of your body like soda.
You cannot mask a nutritional deficiency with a drug.
To me the business of prescribing these drugs to millions of kids is big business. They are addictive and you become a long term customer.
Dont disregard mother nature in what she can do for you. Our ancient paleo diets have more in common with the ocean than we realize. Modern man has drifted away from that and relys on nothing but synthetic chemicals anymore for what ails us.
Drink lots of water avoid soda and cut sugar to bare bones.
add omega 3 epa per Dr. Stoll recommended amounts.
No junk food.
Sound diet with lots of fish, turkey, chicken limit red meat.
Lots of fresh green and bright colored vegetables.
Avoid white processed breads, white rice, white anything. This is poison.
Avoid milk and dairy for reasons I posted on this board.
Make sure you get adequate ascorbic acid, (vitamin c) in the diet.
Good luck in what ever you decide.

When I was 10 my parents found the cure for my misbehavior. YOU have ADD/ADHD. I got extremely sick when I was 13 and had to stop taking that shit, I had the sense of mind to not start again.
I'm not saying ADD/ADHD is all bullshit, I do believe many unquallified parents blame their childrens misbehavior on some mental disorder.
My mom takes a pill for depression and I believe it does no good. After hanging out with my drug dealer he explained "Adderal is a cool high, you feel like doing something always, like cleaning, if you sit around doing nothing you feel terrible"
My mom's problem, she overworks herself on the days she can get out of bed and feeds the perpetual circle.
